My Take on Hard Candy Tulip Velvet Mousse Matte Lip Color:

Packaging: The only reason why I bought this product is because of the pretty aluminum case (with built-in mirror) that houses the tube. The tube is long – about my palm size and is rather unique in shape; it is like someone squished a cylindrical tube and flattened it. The cap of the tube holds the application brush which is a rectangular piece of sponge.

Texture: It is very smooth to apply and does not tug on dry lips and a lip balm underneath is not mandatory. When I buy a matte liquid lipstick, I expect it to dry in a matter of seconds and not be tacky at all, but this lip color takes a few minutes to completely dry down and set into a matte finish.

Color: I was expecting it to be a cool-toned red, but it was more of a orange-toned red and looked a bit gaudy and loud on my face – not a big fan of this shade of red.

Pigmentation: When I saw the name “velvet mousse,” I thought of some of the newer matte lip colors by Revlon, L’Oreal and Maybelline that aren’t truly matte and don’t dry down completely – Hard Candy lip mousse is similar, but gives a complete matte finish.

It is incredibly pigmented and applies smoothly and is not patchy at all. One swipe on my bottom lip and all I have to do is press my lips together and it transfers right to my top lip and covers it completely. Then I just have to go around my lip line and I’m done. They have a soft, mousse-like texture that goes on with a little bit of shine, but not as much as the other drugstore lip colors I mentioned.

Shimmer and Shine: It has no shimmer or shine; on first swatch, it might appear a little wet or shiny; however, in couple of seconds, it dries out into a smooth, velvet matte finish with a little bit of shine.

Fragrance: I love the smell – it smells of vanilla cupcake and is perfect ambrosia for lips. The smell fades a little but still traces of it linger till removed.

Wear Time: One needs a good makeup remover or Vaseline to remove these or it won’t budge at all. It might fade a little if one consumes oily food, but otherwise, it does not budge at all. In fact, it is a little too stubborn to remove.

Red lips

I am happy with the performance of this product but not the shade because it is more orange-y than I would like it to be and doesn’t really look so well on my skin tone.
