Hashmi Surma Special Review

Hashmi Surma Special Review

Hi Everyone,

Today, I shall be sharing my thoughts on a very controversial product which is Hashmi Surma. I had written my first ever review for IMBB on Hashmi Kajal Stick and that time only, I had purchased the surma as well. I have been using it on and off and not on a daily basis owing to the controversy factor, but I know a lot of women who swear by this kajal and surma. Let us take a detailed review of the same.

Hashmi Surma Special Review

Product Being Reviewed:

Hashmi Surma Special.

Product Description:

This infallible special class of Kohl not only gives you thick, sheer eyelids, but it also ensures that whole eyelid area is coated in rich, flaking-free greyish tan that stands up to smudging and fading. While incorporating centuries old time tested exotic formulations and techniques, high in medicinal values and important precious ingredients, a natural source of nourishment for the eyes. It is indiscriminately beneficial for both men and women of all ages. Its use not only gives that greyish smoky eyeliner finish, but with its regular use your weary eyes will find relaxation and a cooling effect, so your eye care is no more a hassle. Hashmi Surma Special protects the eyes from the glare of the sun and the UV rays- the only natural way to attain such protection.

Hashmi

Price:

INR 50.

Ingredients:

Now, this is where the controversy builds. It apparently contains lead which is harmful for the eyes. Though on the website, they have all certified documents which prove that it does not have lead, still the topic is debatable.

My Take on Hashmi Surma Special:

Packaging:

It comes in a golden colour plastic bottle. The packaging though may be practical, but looks tacky owing to the flashy golden colour. It also has a wand/probe which helps to put the powdered kohl.

Kajal

Fragrance:

There is no fragrance whatsoever in the product. Also, neither did it sting my eyes nor irritate them in any manner.

Content:

It is a finely milled grey-black coloured powder. Those who like their surma’s or kohls to be jet black may not like it, but believe me, grey looks no less beautiful on the eyes. Those who are not comfortable with the idea of using a powder may create a mess out of it.

Application:

The probe provided needs to be dipped in the bottle and put onto the eyes while keeping them closed. I know it sounds wierd but the probe needs to be pulled gently after placing it between the waterline and tight line. Those who are scared maynot be able to get a good finish with the kohl. It sets in quickly and gives a beautiful smokey black colour to the lower lash line.

Staying Power:

It stays put for 4-5 hours after which it starts to fade from the eyelids. Slight smudging but no racoon eyes.

Summarizing the pros and cons:

Pros of Hashmi Surma Special:

  • Reasonably priced.
  • Gives a soft grey-black colour upon application.
  • Staying power is good.
  • Does not smudge much.

Cons of Hashmi Surma Special:

  • The packaging could be worked upon, I mean golden colour looks a tad bit too bright.
  • Apparently contains lead.
  • Application could be a problem initially, but with practice, you shall get a hang of it.
  • Availability might be a problem.
  • There was no cooling effect upon application contrary to what the product claims.

IMBB Rating:

3.85/5.

Will I Repurchase Hashmi Surma Special?

Yes, I may

Do I Recommend Hashmi Surma Special?

As they say, to each his own; if you are satisfied with the website claim of no lead, you may give it a try.

  1. Hi Shivani,
    Nice review!!
I uaed to use a surma from some brand don’t remember the name… but it was not available in india, one friends friend got that to me from pakistan… that has cooling effect and that has a glass applicator… used to look good in my eyes.. but then I lost the applicatore and then surma was of no use 😀

  2. I have this in the black 🙂 It does sting my eyes a little though. And it also helps to clean the eyes. I used to use home made surmas in my childhood so I love using this BTW.. How do u know it contains lead? :\

  3. i loved using surma.. must get it again.. so cooling…
we have no idea whether lead is there or not is all the junk that we use 😉 on a daily basis.. so no worries…even our drinking water has lead…because of pollution..
