I have a lip gloss with me today from a relatively new brand “Hikari” in the shade Merlot, which is a described as an intense red mauve color. I am glad that makeup brands are coming up with new shades every day.
What it is: A collection of gorgeous, high-shine matte lip glosses.
What it does: With our high pigment lip glosses, you can wear them alone or layer them over your favorite lipstick to create intense new colors. They will give you the perfect sultry lip with just the right amount of shine!
How To Use:
Apply with the wand on lips making a precise line of the outer corners and cupids bow and filling it with the gloss.
Price and Quantity:
Packaging: This lip gloss comes in a transparent rectangular packaging with a black cap with an attached wand. The wand is really tricky to use and goes out of lip lines pretty easily.
My Experience with Hikari Merlot Lip Gloss:
This Hikari lip gloss has a very non-fancy packaging, but when it comes to the real product, it goes way beyond expectations. I wasn’t very sure how it would perform as it’s from a relatively new brand, but that was my misconception. The first and foremost thing that attracted me towards the gloss was the shade – it’s a beautiful reddish mauve color, almost near to the very popular marsala, which is also the Pantone shade of the year. There are a couple of beautiful shades in this particular range, but I picked this particular shade. I have also ordered a couple of lipsticks as well.
The texture of the gloss is very creamy with slight stickiness that all lip glosses are guilty of, but it’s not insanely sticky, and feels quite comfortable on the lips. The applicator wand is like any regular lip gloss and since the shade is so pigmented, it makes errors of application look horrible. I have tried to make it as perfect as possible in my lip swatches, but you can still notice that it has some flaws.
I was expecting more of a sheer glossy tint, but I was pleasantly surprised to find an intensely pigmented, creamy liquid-lipstick type of gloss. There is 95% color deposition in a single swipe and layering doesn’t cause any issue. The shade lasts for a good 4 hours and transfers only a little bit. There is a fresh vanilla scent and I like it pretty much, it’s not annoying. The lip gloss doesn’t accentuate any lip lines, doesn’t flake either. It doesn’t dry up the lips and is moderately hydrating. The gloss give full coverage to pigmented lips. So far, I am greatly impressed with the gloss, if only it had a brush applicator, though I can get one separately 🙂
Pros of Hikari Merlot Lip Gloss:
- Full coverage for pigmented lips.
- Does not settle in lip lines.
- Non-sticky texture.
- Beautiful shades to choose from.
Cons of Hikari Merlot Lip Gloss:
- Applicator wand could have been better.
Do I Recommend Hikari Merlot Lip Gloss?
I recommend this lip gloss range highly for the opacity and comfortable texture.
