Himalaya Gentle Face Wash Cream- Review

Himalaya Gentle Face Wash Cream- Review

Hello Everyone,

I love to change my face wash after every tube. I love to try new and different brands each time and have probably used each and every face wash available in my city. Himalaya and Lotus have by far been my favourite brands in the Herbal range.

Many of you may know my obsession with Himalaya Cleansing milk. So when I saw the himalaya Gentle face wash cream on the shelf I did not spend even a second before buying it.

Himalaya Gentle Face Wash Cream

Here’s what it says on the pack.

  • Gentle face wash cream
  • Normal to Dry skin ( 🙂 )
  • Cucumber and Aloe Vera( :):) )
  • Refreshing and moisturizing Soap-free cleanser( 🙂 🙂 🙂 )
  • A soap free herbal formulation that gently cleanses and moisturizes.
  • Unlike soap, it will not leave your face feeling dry and strtched.
  • Enriched with Cucumber, that cools and soothes your skin, and Aloe Vera, that tones and softens it.
  • Use regularly for a clean, fresh and glowing skin.

Directions for use:

  • Moisten face, apply a small quantity of Gentle Face Wash Cream and gently work up lather with a circular motion. Wash off and pat dry. Use twice daily. Follow up with Himalaya Herbals Face moisturizing lotion.
  • Use Himalaya Herbals Refreshing Fruit pack once a week to refresh and rejuvenate your facial skin.

Ingredients:
Each gm contains: Ext. Trapusha 100 mg, Processes in Kumari, Amalaki, Karchura.

As you can see my happiness just rose and rose with every word I read. It was just PERFECT for me. So I bought it.
It cost me Rs. 60/- for 100g. This is quite a big tube. Normally a face wash tube comes in 50g and 100 g. The smaller one was not available, but as I was dead sure this would work I bought the bigger one.

So….
It’s awful!!!!

Here’s why I didn’t like it one bit-

  • The smell!!! It smells invariably like shaving cream. It IS shaving cream. I could not bear the smell as it lingers on and on.
  • It does not clean anything. Though I don’t have oily skin, it never left me feeling fresh.
  • I feel the dirt and grime as it is when I have used it.
  • It just fails to remove any makeup.
  • The pack says, “Do not use around eyes”. This troubles me as I have to wash off my eyes well as I use some form of eye makeup everyday.
  • It does not have the refreshing fragrance or feel of the Himalaya Cleansing milk that I love with all my heart.
  • It does not lather at all. I didn’t expect it to actually, it being soap free. But it is like applying a light-weight moisturizer. (This is not expected of a face wash!!!)
  • It disappears in my skin if I try to “work up lather in circular motion”.

After massaging it in…..

  • I don’t feel like it ever leaves my skin completely. That’s probably supposed to be the moisturizing capacity. Oh hell!!!!
  • And did I mention???? IT SMELLS LIKE SHAVING CREAM!!!!
  • Actually that is what I have been using it as!!! 😛
  • It leaves my skin feeling greasy and grimy.
  • I started breaking out as my skin was not cleansed properly. Although I don’t think it was a reaction to the product. But still… eeeew!!!!
  • And also… It smells like Shaving Cream!!!

The only good thing about this was that it was cheap, so I didn’t burn a hole in my pocket for this.
Also the packaging was good, but what use it is if the product inside is useless.

I was really, really disappointed with this product, as Himalaya has been quite close to my heart. I love and regularly use many of their products. I don’t think I have ever read a bad review of Himalaya on IMBB either. But this one was just a big, fat dud.
It’s like being snubbed by your best friend.

My rating: :star:

Will I repurchase it???? NO!!!!!

Will I recommend it?? HELL, NO!!!!!

So what do you do if you are stuck with a face wash that’s awful?

  • I use it as foot soak.
  • Or shaving cream.. 😛
  • Or body wash if the fragrance is alright.
  • In manicure soak.

I have found some natural alternatives if you are stuck with a bad face wash or you find yourselves without one.
All these are for dry skin.

  • Gram flour + malai
  • Honey + lemon juice
  • Milk + lemon juice (Natural cleanser + toner)
  • Mashed papaya
  • Sugar + rock salt (Instant Shine!!!)

Have you used Himalaya Gentle Face Wash Cream??

What all natural ingredients serve as your emergency/backup face wash?

  1. Very Nice review Mrunmayee. It’s sad that at times a brand that we trust and like a lot does not work for us. At least it’s not expensive

Personally, I would not have picked it up cuz of my oily skin.. This review wud definitely help eone with normal to dry skin 🙂

Honestly when I saw the ingredient list that you had mentioned in your review, I was cursing myself for oily skin. It’s just sooooooo tempting but disappointing that it doesn’t live up to the expectation

  2. What?? It disappears if you massage long enough? Did they start with making a moisturizer and half-way through decide to change it to a face wash – very confusing ?:-) The good thing though is at least you don’t spend a whole lot of money on it 😐 Heheheh..actually the more I read your review – and I have been reading and reading – the more I want to see this amazing product for myself

    1. Seriously Rads, can you believe it??? I mean, OK ,it’s for dry skin and all.. But still..

And I have noticed you like my negative reviews better…. 😕 😕 You even liked the lakme Moondust Quartet review na????

      1. 😀 😀 I find them funny..not that I like the product. I am very curious, how do they expect this to wash anything off? Never read of such a fascinatingly flop product.

As for the Lakme Moondust, I think everyone would agree, you managed to make those shadows look good. If we hadn’t read your review we would never know you didnt like them!

  3. Great alternative on how u can use an awful face wash Mrun 🙂 I use my lakme sunscreen for my feet as it ruined my face leaving marks 🙁

    1. Though there are many fans for Himalaya I somehow dont like himalaya products..Not sure if it is some compatability issue with my skin, none of their products seem to work for me..recently bought himalaya neem face wash which am sure is a HG face wash for many but i dint like the smell nor the results!! Btw Mrun, i like all your posts, be it product reviews or tut. very simple and interesting!!

      1. Thanks Shyna for liking my work… :))

Himalaya products are really mild in all sense of the word…

They work slowly and steadily.. But they are definitely not for getting overnight results..

I have found my HG cleansing milk with Himalaya.. But amongst the herbal companies top slot for me is def LOTUS…

        1. Me too for LOTUS…i love almost all their products which i have tried till date..and probably you are right about Himalayas but the thing is am unable to wait for long n see if it gives results since my skin reacts to it and am forced to stop it after using just once; especially with the neem face wash, i broke out!!Quite strange though since it is suppopsed to reduce pimples as mentioned on the tube!!

  4. OMG Mrunmayee!!! I thought I was the only person who thought this had a shaving cream smell! I thought I was crazy! LOL now I can’t stop laughing    . But ya, this product sucks big time and I too was extremely disappointed with it.

    1. :rotfl: LOL Ame…. :rotfl:

Even I wondered how people will react to that.. But it DOES smell like shaving cream..

So that’s two of us disappointed now… 🙁

  5. hey 🙂 it worked for me :)… though i disliked the  smell  .. but apart from that it worked fine … anyways it gives us an excuse to buy more products.. as if we need one.. 😀

  6. Oh Mrun, to smell of shaving cream!!! thats a sin no face wash should be allowed :p

by the way, how do you use sugar and rock salt? i have never heard of this combo being used as a face cleanser!!!

  9. Ive also been disappointed with the Himalaya Face Wash.I tried the neem one for my oily skin and it made me break out the next day.Horrible.I was so pissed I threw it in the dustbin.
You could mix sugar and olive oil to the face wash and make a scrub for your feet.

  10. i was kinda disappointed with this facewash as well. never repurchased it. i like changing my facewashes too but i do go back to ones that worked for me.
my views about this facewash match yours completely.

  11. hey,
i’ve been lurking on this blog for months now and couldn’t resist commenting on this review. i used to be a VERY loyal customer of himalaya products – i used a LOT them for about 2 or 3 years until about a year ago when i had to stop. this was because they COMPLETELY changed their formulas. i’ve used all their face washes, their neem and fruit packs, shampoos, etc. and they went from pretty good to completely useless. their anti dandruff shampoo went from looking a translucent green and smelling freshly herbal to opaque white, shimmery (!) and smelling like sunsilk! i think that’s what happened with this f/w too. i remember it smelling slightly like cucumber and not at all like shaving cream.

sorry you had such a bad experience with it 🙁
boo himalaya for trying to fix what was never broken!

  12. Nice and honest review, Mrun. Somehow I have never got myself anything from Himalaya, don’t know why….maybe some gut feeling. This sounds like a real bad face wash, doesn’t lather, leaves your skin feeling unclean, and what not. Anyway, thanks for letting us know.
