New Himalaya Herbals Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo

Hey You Guys,

New Himalaya Herbals Anti Hair Fall Shampoo

I’ve not written a post in quite some time and I’m so glad to get back into action!  This is a review on Himalaya Herbals Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo, the new formula. The old formula is already reviewed by Chand here.  Now, I am one of those people who, given a chance, would gladly put thousands of posters around the city (any city; I’m not picky) declaring that silicones and sulphates are not good for hair. However, for various complicated reasons as mentioned here, I do use sulphates occasionally.

The reason this shampoo caught my eye was because it had “free from Parabens, Silicone, SLES” written on the label.  Now, I want to avoid using silicone anyway, and as an added bonus, this says it didn’t contain SLES, good for me!

I kind of wished it came in a smaller pack, but this was the smallest there and I wanted to buy it so bad! So, now that you know the story of how it landed in my shopping cart, let’s proceed to the review! 🙂

Price:

Rs. 130 for 200 ml.

Product Description:

A breakthrough 2-in-1 formula that provides root nourishment and strengthens weakened hair. Conditions and improves hair texture to reduce hair fall due to breakage.

Key Ingredients and directions are the same as the old formula’s.

cap

This, too, is safe to use on artificially coloured or permed hair.

My Take on New Himalaya Herbals Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo:

This shampoo, in one word, sucks.  The packaging is the standard Himalaya packaging; the white bottle and the green flip cap.  It smells quite nice and is very runny. Shampooing with this is a major pain, as it hardly lathers, even on super-dry hair!

Swatch

I don’t oil my hair before washing it, but I know many of you do. If I had such a hard time to get it to lather, I can’t imagine what you guys would do! I even tried making lather in my hands and then applying it to my hair. Guess what, it failed! The second the lather hit my hair, it just disappeared!

I do not have a hair fall problem. I bought this just for its claims of being silicone, paraben and SLES free. Of course, I do have a bit of hair coming out every day (normal amount). This did not reduce it at all, but then, my hair doesn’t break and fall, and this does claim to reduce hair fall only caused by breakage.

This shampoo made my hair, which was decently soft and moisturized, rough and tangled. No kidding! The first wash, I felt it was rough, but I thought I’d give it a second chance. Yes, big mistake! This shampoo is so drying, it literally strips all oil off my hair and leaves dry and tangled hair behind!

Product Claims of New Formula:

I have read many reviews of the old formula, and have not found a single review to say it is a nice shampoo. Everyone said the same thing – bad, drying, leads to rough hair, doesn’t do a thing for hair fall. Then, there are some people (example, me) who think that maybe, just maybe, the new formula will be any better. Well, we are pretty stupid, I can tell you.

This shampoo definitely feels like there is no silicone; that I can completely trust them on. No parabens; well, I frankly don’t mind parabens, so I have no issues with that.

They say no SLES. Mind you, not “no sulphates”, but only “no SLES.”  This means that they could have ALS or other sulphates in there. I was fully aware of this when I bought it, but then I kind of thought “What if Himalaya has actually come up with something decent this time in the shampoo line?” As I said before, I was stupid to expect anything good.  The company doesn’t fully disclose its ingredients, it appears. They have two lists – “Key ingredients” and “Inactives.”  It is highly likely that they don’t show all their ingredients because certain ingredients can be neither key nor inactive, and then they won’t come in either list!

I have no idea whether this does have ALS in it, or any other sulphate, or some other crazily-drying ingredient in there! All I know is that it strips my hair dry, and yeah, you can see why I dislike this product!  I have used shampoos with SLES, ALS, SLS, etc., in them, and without silicones, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen something so drying yet! I’m guessing they have included some industrial-strength drying agent in there!

Sorry, this is the best picture I could get of the shampoo itself.

Pros of New Himalaya Herbals Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo:

  • Smells quite okay.
  • If you find Himalaya brand’s packaging nice, you’ll like the packaging of this one too! 😛
  • Inexpensive.
  • Supposedly contains no silicone, parabens, or SLES.

Cons of New Himalaya Herbals Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo:

  • Oddly enough, no lather AT ALL!
  • Strips hair dry.
  • Makes hair tangled, rough.
  • The ambiguity about sulphates.
  • The mystery ingredient/the concentration of other sulphates.

Final Verdict on New Himalaya Herbals Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo:

Never ever buy this awful product! I don’t have a problem with Himalaya products, in general, but you ask me to suggest a nominee for “Worst Shampoo of the Year,” and guess who gets my vote!

This is for all the people that Himalaya might fool into thinking that this is actually a “New” and “Improved” formula. Please don’t waste your money on this. I’ve heard that cakes and candy win hands down over terribly drying shampoo. :haanji:

  1. Samantha, I know you sorta know a lot about haircare – can you please suggest a herbal hair shampoo for me ? I plan to go sulphate and silicone free too, and my current pantene shampoo is bubbling over with chemicals. should i try blossom Kochchar ? I know from your previous posts , you co-wash but since i have moderately long straight fine hair and oily scalp – it would not work for me..

    1. Hey Arja 🙂
The problem with ‘herbal’ shampoos is that in India, among other countries, there are companies that randomly stick the word “herbal” on the front of their hair care products, yet sell the same products full of evil and nasty chemicals. That’s why I find it difficult to believe any of their claims of being herbal.
I myself cannot find a good hair care range without sulfates/ silicones that gives me the results I want for my hair. I do use silicone free conditioner, but where shampoo is concerned, I’m afraid I cannot help. I do know of brands not available in India that I used to use when I lived back home, but I can’t get them here, so I have to use what I can get, which, yeah, does have sulfates.
For silicone free conditioner, check the end of this post:
      https://makeupandbeauty.com/ingredients-shampoos-conditioners-significance/
For sulfate free shampoo, I have never tried Blossom Kochchar, so I cannot recommend something I haven’t tried myself. If I remember correcty, Aroma Magic products do not give out a complete ingredients list; it is highly probable their shampoos contain sulfates.
And not all chemicals are bad for your hair. In fact, a natural concoction can be bad for your hair, while a chemical formulation can be good for it! It all depends on ingredients! For sulfate free shampoo (I have NOT tried their shampoo myself) – Segals Solutions.
Also, Meera Herbals (or something like that) has a hair powder which supposedly has no chemicals. I tried it, and my hair turned so dry! The main reason I avoid sulfates is because I find them too drying, so what’s the point in using something that dries my hair out, whether it contains sulfates or not?! But it might work for your hair.
I currently use VO5 shampoo – sheer vitality elixir (green bottle). I like how soft my hair is after I use it, even though it has ALS.

  2. None of the reviews I have come across are good for Himalaya shampoos.. :jalwa: Himalaya Anti dandruff shampoo is also the worst I have ever used.. :yuck: But I love their face washes..

  3. Even i had high hopes when i started reading paraben free blah blah…. Really thought this must be good…They must have put some industrial strength cleanser in to to compensate… crazy… :spank: :spank: :spank:

    1. I know! After I got over being mad at the shampoo, I actually found it funny! 😀
I don’t usually give ratings for my reviews because I can’t give precise ratings, but in this case, I knew the rating precisely! 🙂

even one of my friend had this experience…. :lol2: :lol2: 😆 she was cursing like hell…!!!!

      1. now me facing same problem wid d himalaya facewash too…. the cucumber+AeloVera …. it sucks to the core…. :waaa: :waaa: :waaa: it makes my skin very dry…. so now using it for my pedicure :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

  5. most of the shampoos that claim herbal don’t have a complete list of ingredients.. & that is one reason am trying to avoid those.. :jog: :jog: :jog: :jog:
I’ve tried himalaya’s moisturizing shampoo.. dint find it great.. but my mom liked it.. but i asked her to stop using it mainly for not having a complete ingredient list. & it said methylchloroisothiazoline or something that twisted my tongue badly. & i found in the internet that it is supposed to damage brain cells.. chemicals are so scaring… :ghost: :ghost: :ghost:

  6. I used Protein Shampoo from this range, it caused severe hair fall problem for me, after that i never look at Himalaya Shampoos :spank: :spank: :spank:
