Home Remedies for Bad Breath
Bad breath can be a result of strong-smelling food items, smoking, dry mouth, gum problems or sinus blocks.Essentially, bacteria build-up in the mouth is the cause of bad breath. It is essential to rule out underlying medical conditions for bad breath but some quick home remedies always help, so that bad breath would not take a toll on our confidence.
Water intake:
8 glasses of water is passé now, we need three liters of water daily besides our fluid consumption. Water intake would freshen up the mouth after meals and avoid food getting stuck between teeth, avoiding a breeding ground for bacteria thereby.
Lemon water:
Just like lemon works on underarm odor-causing bacteria, the high acidic content would help to curb the bacteria in the mouth that cause bad breath.Squeeze half a lime in a cup pf water and swish around the mouth during the day and night before bed.
Apple:
Crisp apples strengthen gums and their high water content increases saliva production. Saliva production helps to remove bad breath as dry mouth is a cause of foul breath.
Cloves:
Clove oil can help as an antiseptic, curbing bacteria in the mouth. Simply chew two whole cloves to get fresh breath quickly.
Methi seed water:
Soak methi seeds in a cup of water and let it soak overnight. Consume this in the morning to keep bad breath at bay for longer.
Cardamom:
Elaichi is something you can always carry in your bag to chew on,it instantly freshens the mouth and also aids in digestion.
Cinnamon:
Chew on a small stick of cinnamon to freshen breath instantly. You could also boil cinnamon, cloves and bay leaf and consume this water when ever you feel bad breath is creeping in.
Saunf/fennel:
This is a classic in India, being served after meals all the time. This minty fresh seed helps to freshen the mouth quickly also aiding in digestion. The chewing movement also produces saliva which helps remove bad breath.
Chew on some parsley sprig post meals, it is rich in chlorophyll which has germ fighting qualities.
On some essential notes, do not skip meals, as dry mouth is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. Avoid smoking, onions, alcohol and garlic, and other strong odorous food products that will surely give a foul breath.
