6 Home Remedies for Freckles

How are you doing? Freckles are one of the common beauty problems caused by exposure to the sun for a long time. Although I feel we need to be comfortable in our skin, plenty of us wants to lighten our skin tone and get rid of freckles. But cosmetic procedures are not safe and not everyone can afford the treatments. So, here are some home remedies which can remove freckles with consistent usage. Also, I reiterate that the best way to prevent freckles would be to properly protect your skin from the sun each time you step out.

Lemon Juice

The citric acid present in lemons has amazing skin bleaching properties. So, if you are looking to remove any kind of marks, scars, or blemishes, lemon juice should be on the top of your list. Apply the freshly squeezed lemon juice on the freckled area, and leave on for 15 minutes and wash off. If your skin is very sensitive, do not apply lemon juice directly. Either dilute it or mix it with other ingredients like honey before application.

Sour Cream

Sour cream is a great home remedy to remove freckles. It has lactic acid which can lighten freckles when used consistently. Also, sour cream is good for people with sensitive skin, as it doesn’t cause skin irritation or dryness. Apply sour cream on the affected area, wipe off with a wet cloth and apply a soothing lotion.

Papaya

Papaya is rich in papain enzyme which can exfoliate your skin, remove dead cells and aid in the production of new cells which makes your skin look fresher. Papain is also a tyrosinase inhibitor. It inhibits the production of melanin which gives you dark spots on your skin, and thus helps in reducing freckles. Although green raw papaya has more papain in it, ripe papaya can also make your skin free of freckles. You can rub a papaya slice over your skin, or make a face mask with mashed papaya, honey, and curd for a flawless complexion.

Banana Peel

Banana peel contains a unique skin lightening and anti-aging compound. Rub the inside of the peel on the affected area and rinse off after some time. You can also rub the peel on your entire face for a firm and supple skin.

Licorice Extract

In a previous article, I have talked about the benefits of licorice. Licorice has a tyrosinase inhibitor called Glabridin which inhibits melanin production. You can mix this skin lightening agent with any oil and apply the mixture on your freckles. Mix licorice extract with jojoba oil, apply it using a cotton ball and leave it for half an hour. You can make this mixture and store it for up to a week.

Apple Cider Vinegar

The malic acid present in apple cider vinegar removes the top layer of dead cells and gives the lower fresh skin a chance to resurface. Thus, freckles appear faded with gradual use. Mix honey and apple cider vinegar together, apply on the freckles and wash off after 15-20 minutes. Do it every alternate day to get rid of freckles.
