Home Remedies for Menstrual Cramps

Home Remedies for Menstrual Cramps

I know it seems like there is nothing you can do to kill the cramps. Those few days just suck. The mood swings are enough trouble to deal with and the excruciating cramps make it worse.
Thankfully there are some cheap and easy home remedies that make the pain less unbearable.

Hot water bottle

Place a hot water bottle or a heating pad on the abdomen. The warmth from the bottle will make you forget that you had any pain! You can also use a hand towel dipped in hot water.

Back massage

back massage
Although body massage will work better, if you don’t have the time, get a back massage done. This will relax all the muscles in the abdomen area and will help ease the pain.

Cinnamon

cinnamon
Cinnamon has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties that help ease pains. You can sprinkle some over milk or tea.

Exercise

Regular exercise is very important for various reasons. Exercising increases the release of endorphins, which are hormones that make you feel happy. Also, endorphins most importantly are your body’s natural way of reducing pain.

Yoga

Doing yoga obviously has long term benefits. Most yoga exercises focus on the abdomen area, for instance, downward dog. If that part of the body is strong and well stretched, you tend to have less cramps and less painful cramps.

Mint

mint
This is one home remedy that has been passed on in my family for generations. Two leaves a day for that entire week relieve cramps.

Warm liquids

warm liquids
Warm liquids like mint tea, ginger tea, turmeric milk increase blood flow and relax your muscles. However, there is an exception to this rule- coffee. Caffeine stimulates your muscles causing them to contract and cramp even more.

  5. I suffer from horrible cramps and I don’t feel like eating anything and laze around on bed. However I found out that not eating harms more and the pain increases…eating fruits at this time helps in reducing the pain atleast in my case …I love having papaya fruit (direct from freezer) mixed with some lemon juice and sprinkled with some salt and sugar …it cools down the stomach and helps in the cramps! :haanji: :haanji:
