Homemade+Detox+Drinks

I  have started thinking about detox recently, have realized how essential it is to flush out toxins.  You may or may not get the chance to visit spas to do that, but there are quite a few homemade detox methods that you can incorporate.  I had yesterday showed you the body wrap technique to detoxify your system using epsom salt and cling wrap here.  Detox drinks are usually associated with weight loss.  Most detox drinks such as Master Cleanse encourage 6 to 8 glasses of these liquids while fasting for the rest of the day, to be continued over a period of 7 days.  There has been doubts raised that these drinks are encouraging losing weight in a wrong way without providing any nourishment.  I cannot do it for even 1 day, let aside continuing it up to 7 days.  However, I do think you can replace detox drinks with your cola and beverage cans.  Let’s take a look at the best recipes available for detoxification drinks.

1.  Watermelon and Mint Detox Drink:

Watermelon has high water content and helps the kidneys get rid of toxins.  Lime stimulates digestive tract.  Mint also aids in digestion.

Ingredients Needed:

  • 1 liter of water.
  • Half a part of watermelon.
  • One whole big lemon.
  • A bunch of mint leaves.

How To Make:

Cut the watermelon into small cubes without the rind and if you want, you can de-seed them and put them all in a jug.  Cut one whole lime into four pieces and add into the jar.  Throw in a bunch of mint leaves and fill up the jar with one liter of water.  Keep this overnight in the fridge and drink the entire quantity the next day in intervals.  You can throw in a few ice cubes when you are drinking it.

2.  Cucumber and Mint Detox Drink:

All the ingredients remain the same from the watermelon and mint drink.  You only have to substitute cucumber instead of watermelon.

  •  1 liter of water.
  • 1 whole cucumber.
  • 1 whole lemon.
  • A bunch of mint leaves.

How To Make:

Cut the cucumber into round slices and put them all in a jug. Cut one whole lime into four pieces and add into the jar. Throw in a bunch of mint leaves and fill up the jar with one liter of water. Keep this overnight (you can keep it in the fridge) and drink the entire quantity the next day in intervals. You can throw in a few ice cubes when you are drinking it.

3.  Green Tea and Tangerine Detox Drink:

Tangerine

All of us know the health benefits of green tea.  Tangerines (keenu in Hindi) are full of antioxidants and are rich in Vitamin A.  If you don’t have tangerine available at your place, you can substitute it with citrus limetta (mosambi). Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients Needed:

  • 8 cups of green tea (brewed).
  • 1 tangerine (keenu).
  • A bunch of mint leaves.

How To Make:

Cut the tangerine into slices and de-seed them if you want.  Drop these into a jug containing 8 glasses of brewed green tea.  Throw in a bunch of mint leaves and leave it overnight.  Consume it the next day.  This detox drink aids in weight loss also.

Green tea in itself is a well-known detox drink.  You can consume it throughout to get its anti-oxidant benefits.

Another best and easily available detox agent is pure water.  Drink at least 8 to 12 glasses of water to flush out toxins from your body.

Hope you would try and see the results for yourself.

  2. This is great! Not only do the drinks look refreshing in this summer heat, they carry an additional advantage. I agree that a diet of detox drinks n nothing else would be a little stretched for us. But there is no reason why these cant replace out colas n ice teas!! Way to go Jomol! *hifive* *clap* *clap*

  3. Jomo thanks a ton for sharing these. *puchhi* They sound so easy. I am def trying them out. *jogging* tomorrow morning only fruit and veggies shopping *duh*

  5. Jomo.. loved it.. *puchhi* *puchhi* I have bookmarked it 😀 I particularly loved the last one. I drink white tea and it is kind of tasteless to a bit sour. So, adding mint and tangerine should help in the taste and in detoxing as well. 😀 awesome!!!

  6. Nice recipes! I guess just lemon or orange slices in a jug full of water kept in fridge would also work. They add flavour and Vit C. *haan ji*
