Homemade Scrub For Underarms: Do It Yourself

Homemade Scrub For Underarms: Do It Yourself

Hi everyone,

The weather is clearing up. We all are ditching our heavy woolens for lighter cardigans and shrugs now, and very soon to fluttering summer dresses and outfits. How many times has it happened, that we have refrained ourselves from purchasing that “oh so gorgeous” dress, or a “jhatak” suit, just because it was sleeveless and we were embarrassed to wear it because of patches on our underarms. There are so many drugstore brands in the market offering deodorants and roll-ons for lighter underarms, but they are never up to mark, and even if they are, the difference they make is hardly noticeable, even after a religious use of months. Do not get me wrong here, I am not an advocate of fairer or lighter skin, but I do like evenness on the exposed parts of my body, and since there are no makeup products for the underarms (sigh! unfortunately), the need of the hour is something which can cleanse our underarms thoroughly, keep it fresh in spite of sweat (honestly, no deodorant has been sweat proof for me, we will sweat no matter what we do, it is a natural phenomenon, we just want something which keep the odour at bay).

Enough said as an introduction, today’s DIY is a daily scrub/cleanser for the underarms which not only cleanses it, but keeps you fresh. Also, the ingredients being natural lighteners will slowly cut away that patchiness. It is easy enough, but the only thing is that you will need to make it daily or as an when you use it, as it cannot be stored. Don’t know, probably it is just my psychological thinking, but I prefer it this way. But no worries, it is very easy and it will take you just 2 minutes to whip it up.

Ingredients Needed:

1. Orange Peel Powder.  This is an easy enough ingredient which you can prepare and store when the fruit is available widely in the season.  Just follow the below mentioned sub-steps for making this ( DIY inside a DIY *rofl* ):
i. Take the peels of around 6 to 7 oranges (store them after you have eaten to your heart’s content, trust me, it can be used as an ingredient in so many DIYs).
ii. Keep this on a plate/newspaper sheet and cover it with a cloth so that dust doesn’t settle in.  Keep it away from sunlight.
iii. Keep it like that for around a week or 10 days, till the peels have completely dried up. You will come to know when you will see, its quite noticeable.
iv. Grind the peels in a mixer grinder till it is in a finely powdered form.

Your orange peel powder is ready. It is an excellent ingredient which can be used in many things, and a special boon for oily skin if used in a face pack. You can make a substantial quantity, store in a jar, and use it for a month (not more as fungus may grow, after all, it is a perishable product and we do not add preservatives).

Take 2 tea spoonfuls of this powder. It is a natural cleanser and the granules scrub effectively.

2. Curd:  Now, this ingredient solely came into picture in order to give some consistency to this scrub/cleanser which we are preparing, which means that without this, if you try to control and use the orange peel powder with just the remaining ingredients, you will not be able to use it because it will just slip out of your hands.  Take 2 teaspoonfuls of curd.

3. Lemon Juice:  Squeeze out the juice of half a lemon.

4. Rose Water.

Orange powder and lemon juice both being natural astringents, add some rose water in order to provide some moisture and glow. Just add a few drops. Take care that it is not too much so that the paste is not too liquid.

Method of Preparation:

The scrub/cleanser is very easy to prepare, because the key lies in the ingredients. It is the ingredients of this pack which takes time to prepare. Once you have all of them in hand, all you have got to do is mix these in correct proportions, and your fresh underarm cleanser cum scrub is ready.

Step 1:

Mix 2 teaspoonfuls of curd to 2 teaspoonfuls of orange peel powder and mix well to form a scrub paste like consistency.

Step 2:

Squeeze out the juice of half a lemon. Add a few drops of rose water. Stir and mix well.

That’s it! Really. You don’t have to do anything else. You prepare the orange peel powder once a month, and you are done. Just spend around 2 to 4 minutes before shower making this cleanser, and use the squeezed out half lemon as an applicator. Dip it into this mixture and scrub each underarm for 2 to 3 minutes and then wash away.

If by chance, some day, lemon is not there at your place, you can skip it. However try that you have it.

This cleanser will soak up the excess dirt and sweat. Lemon and orange peel powder being a rich source of vitamin C and antioxidants, and also natural skin lighteners will make the skin even over time (do not expect overnight changes, with religious use, it will surely give results, much better than the drugstore deodorants ). Rose water will add softness to your underarms, combined with the goodness of natural oils of orange peels.  The fibres of the lemon peel, which you are using here as an applicator for this cleanser/scrub on your underarms, will gently scrub in a natural way.

This cleanser will keep your underarm odour controlled. Also, it will nourish the skin.  It is better not to use any deodorant on the area after that, instead, put some mild cream on, Johnson’s baby cream or any such gentle cream. Spray on a deodorant on yourself instead of on the underarms.

Regular usage will not only improve the texture of your underarms, but also make them softer and even. Also, avoid hair removal creams, they are the main cause of darkening and damaged skin.  Get your underarm hair waxed at regular intervals, preferably once every 10 days. Do not wait for the hair to grow completely. You can think of it as a cleanup for your underarms. Daily cleanse them with this cleanser/scrub, put on a mild cream (baby cream or any gentle one), and once every 10 days do the waxing. A perfect skin care routine for your underarms, isn’t it?

Alternative:

If you want your scrub to have more consistency, and a paste/pack type form, you can do the following:

1. Replace “2 teaspoonfuls orange peel powder” with “1 teaspoonfuls orange peel powder, 1 teaspoonful jau atta.”
2. Replace “2 teaspoonful curd” with “2 teaspoonful milk.”
3. Skip the lemon juice.
4. Add rose water like above.
5. You will have a more pack like consistency.
6. This you can use as a scrub as well as pack.
7. You can use it on face too (oily skinned beauties).

A short Skin Care Routine For Underarms:

1. Scrub with this remedy daily during bath for 2 minutes (cleanse).
2. After bath, use a mild toner or rose water to soothe the skin (tone).
3. Finish up with a very gentle cream, nothing over the top or it will get mixed with your sweat and can create havoc. You can use Johnson’s baby cream or lotion (moisturize).
4. Once every 10 days, get your underarms waxed (clean up).

If you follow these steps regularly, trust me, in a month’s time, it will make a huge difference to your underarms.

Please take caution and use this scrub cum cleanser only if you are not allergic to any of the above ingredients.

So ladies, go on and prepare your own underarm regimen. It’s time to grab those gorgeous dresses and flaunt the flawless skin. Stay gorgeous, love you all :* :* :*

*scared* *cry* *cry* but when i kept these orange peels to dry…why they turn black n catch up fungus . is this the weather ?? humidity??

    1. Glad u found it helpful 🙂 this prob has never happened wid me..but i think the reason for fungus is wen moisture seeps in and the peels r not getting sufficient air..as in sumtims happens im case of lemon pickle..wen moisture seeps it catches fungus..same here..u have to keep it completely free of moisture and keep it sumwer airy 🙂

  3. thank you kadambari . *thankyou* noticing it…n taking time out to reply me.
