My Hot Stone Therapy Massage Experience

My Hot Stone Therapy Massage

Hi Everyone!!! 🙂

Today, I am going to share my experience with the HOT STONE THERPY MASSAGE. I usually go to the “i deserve it” spa in Thane for Swedish or deep tissue massage. So, this time, when there was a deal on dealsandyou.com for the hot stone massage at the same spa, I just grabbed it. So, first, I will tell you all some details about the therapy.

About Hot Stone Therapy Massage:

My Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, basalt flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body. The use of hot stones for healing dates back to ancient times, but it wasn’t until Arizona massage therapist Mary Nelson introduced her hot stone massage technique, called LaStone Therapy, that the use of hot stones for massage caught on.

How Does It Work???

The hot stones are usually made of basalt, a type of rock that is rich in iron, so they retain heat. The stones have very smooth edges. These stones are soaked in water and heated. These are then used to massage on the body and also placed at specific parts like the spine, between the toes, palms and chest and stomach. The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to apply deeper pressure, if desired. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.

My Experience with the Hot Stone Massage Therapy:

This was the first time I was getting this massage done, I was a bit apprehensive. I thought the heat will burn me because usually I don’t even bathe with hot water. I was made to lie down on my stomach with just the disposable basics on. The therapist, Swati, started the massage with a prayer. Since this spa works on the lines of the Thai spas, this tradition is also adopted from them. Then, she covered my whole body with a white towel. Swati started applying aroma oil on my back first. This aroma oil is a mixture of olive oil, lavender oil and orange oil. Olive oil is usually used for dry skin and moisturization. Lavender oil to soothe and calm and orange oil for refreshing.

After massaging with oil for about 5 minutes, she removed two hot basalt stones already pre-heated and placed it on my back to check the temperature and my tolerance. Initially I squealed; coming in contact with a hot stone, but after a few seconds, the discomfort vanished and was replaced with a very warm feeling. I could literally feel the blood in my body warm up and then the relaxation set in.

After I was done with my back, Swati placed the hot stones on my spine starting from the bottom to the nape at specific intervals and with the towel. Then, she massaged my legs and feet, more on the principles of foot reflexology, but with the tiny hot stones. By now, I was on the verge of falling asleep. Small stones are placed between the fingers of my feet. I was already asleep by now, so I don’t remember how long this took.

When she was done with the back part, she woke me up and asked me to turn around. I was too sleepy even at this moment. I did as said. Then again, the same procedure of applying oil on the front part of the body (shoulders, chest & stomach). I squealed out louder this time when a hot stone was placed on my stomach, it feels much hotter on the front part of the body as compared to the back. Swati waited for 2-3 minutes for the stone to cool, then she proceeded with the massage similar to the back part of the body. By now, I am awake and asked her whether her hands burn? To this she said that she was used to it.

The stones were placed in a similar way on the front as back. Then, my hands were massaged and a stone is placed in each palm, which I had to hold. Then, came the massage for the neck part and the face with the hot stone, only that the stones were warmer now, not hot.

My package included a head massage and a sandalwood pack also, which she applied on my face and proceeded with the head massage. I was already on seventh heaven by now. I felt so relaxed and light, as if I was floating. After I was done with the massage, I was left alone for 10-15 minutes to rest. I dozed off again.

When I woke up, I took a bath with hot/warm water giving the body wash a miss, that’s what I was asked to do, so that the oils don’t get washed away completely. By now, I felt as if I was REBORN.

Pros of Hot Stone Therapy Massage:

  • Totally rejuvenates you.
  • Relaxes the muscles.
  • Improves blood circulation.
  • Provides warmth to the body.
  • Especially helpful for people with sinus or cold feet.
  • Makes you feel lighter.
  • Helps to get rid of pains and aches.

Cons of Hot Stone Therapy Massage:

I can’t think of any con except that it is time consuming, you will need at least 2 hours + travel time, but it is truly worth the time spent.

My Rating:

5/5.

Will I Get This Done Again????

Obviously yes.
