Hot by United Colors of Benetton for Women

This is inspired by the comments you guys made on the Benetton Playlife review I wrote earlier 😀 You had asked me to review Benetton Hot, so here it is! I actually bought both of them together. Hot by Benetton is one part of a set for men and women – the men’s fragrance is called, “Cold.” :lol2:  This is turning into a Katy Perry song! 😛 I have heard that “Cold” is not too masculine and is more of a unisex perfume, so if any of you ladies try/have tried it out, do post!

Anyway, the first thing that intrigued me was the bottle. I love uniquely-shaped perfume bottles, and the Benetton Hot bottle is tall and square-shaped, with a cute red cap that looks a bit like a faucet handle. It comes in a transparent plastic box, which isn’t of much use, so I threw it after a few days.

Price:

I think it was around Rs. 995/- for 100 ml and I got it for Rs.545/-

Product Description:

Launched in 1997, soothing, relaxing and sensual, Hot by Benetton is a fresh citrus scent, with exotic tones of oriental florals.

Fragrance Notes:

Top Notes: Mandarin orange, bergamot, Brazilian rosewood and lemon.
Middle Notes: Apricot, orris, water jasmine and lily-of-the-valley.
Base Notes: Sandalwood, amber, musk, vanilla, oakmoss and cedar.

I absolutely LOVE musk and vanilla, I’m not a huge fan of floral scents, so I was glad to see there isn’t too much of that in the middle notes.

Let me tell you that I adore this perfume. It smells cheerful and heavenly, like a mix of all things wonderful. Once you spritz it on, you end up feeling so fresh, and it has good staying power too as it’s strong. I fell in love at first spray 😛
Now, here’s the catch – the bottle design. More like, the nozzle design. The faucet-like handle has a tiny little arrow indicating which side you should turn it to “lock” or “unlock.” It’s been so long and I still haven’t understood how that works. It’s not convenient at all, turn it one way and it will spray a fine mist. Turn it another way and it will spray in a stream/jet. Also, this perfume is a nightmare to carry if you’re travelling. In one Bangalore-to-Delhi flight, I lost half the content of the bottle because there is no clear indicator of how to close it and how to keep it tightly sealed. The box didn’t have any helpful instructions either.

So here’s my list of pros and cons:

Pros of Hot By United Colors of Benetton For Women:

  • Lovely scent, it mixes all things sunny and cheerful and combines fruity, musky flavors with spicy vanilla to create an amazing effect.
  • Has good stay-on power.
  • One spritz is usually enough to last a while.

Cons of Hot By United Colors of Benetton For Women:

  • Packaging, the  box is too flimsy and has very little information printed on it.
  • The biggest drawback is the nozzle/cap design, though it looks funky, it’s a pain to operate.

Verdict:

This perfume is great for those of you who don’t want to spend too much on a nice perfume, and also for those who love musky scents.

IMBB Rating:

3.5/5, low marks for the bad packaging.

  1. I had this about 3-4 years back! I actually loved the fragrance but you’re right, the cap is a total pain the neck. :spank: Half the times, I felt like breaking the bottle and pouring the perfume over my head instead of bothering with the dumb nozzle. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

  2. Glad to see your post dear..

    Nandini l likey the bottle… ♥

oh the perfume leaked..my goodness I would have got a mini heart attack looking at that :doctor: :doctor: :doctor:

    1. :teddy: I was sooo furious Dipti, my clothes ALL smelled like this (not that it’s a bad smell, but they were soaked!!!) 🙁 they really need to do something abt the packaging.

  3. My husband’s favourite cheap perfume is COLD! I associate it with him actually. It is a very pleasant fragrance, not so strong that it is overpowering, but strong enough to be noticed. He always seemed happy with the packaging too. Haven’t tried HOT, the top notes especially seem nice. I tend to like men’s/unisex perfumes better anyway.

  4. i am not a huge fan of floral scents but as you said this is somewhere in between so i will check it out the next time I am at the store. 🙂 I like how sleek the bottle looks.

  5. hahaha I got this perfume for just 400 bucks on 99 labels!! such a steal!! 🙂 yeah I totally agree with the nozzle ! been using this for months and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how it works 😀 so I just turn it once for the sake of it and leave it 😀 but love the fragrance 🙂
