Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder – Brilliant Strobe Light Review

Hello everyone,

I have a special love for highlighters. Till now, my absolute favorite highlighters have been Becca shimmering skin perfectors till I discovered these new Hourglass strobe powders. Though I can’t say they have kicked the Becca highlighters out of the winning spot just yet, but these do come in very very close. They both have very different qualities about them which set them apart, so read on to find out more about strobe powder and see which one suits your need the best.
Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder Brilliant

Product Description:
A collection of illuminating strobing powders designed to sculpt the face with light, creating depth and dimension for a refined, natural-looking highlight.
Product description

What it does:  Ambient Strobe Lighting Powders are formulated in a sheer base that’s infused with concentrated, ultra-fine mico-pearl particles in a number of sizes and refraction levels for natural-looking luminescence—without leaving a heavy metallic finish. Developed with Photoluminescent Technology it captures, diffuses, and softens surrounding light to refine the appearance of the skin. Use it wet or dry for different levels of intensity, taking you from an everyday strobe highlight to a dramatic evening strobe highlight. These universally flattering shades are perfect for all skin tones, and they’re designed to be used with the Ambient Strobe Light Sculptor (sold separately) for the most effortless application. It is formulated without parabens.

My Experience with Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder – Brilliant Strobe Light:

Packaging:  These strobe powders aka highlighters come in an all mirror finish compact. It is almost the same size as the blushes from this brand.
Packaging

The compact does look very sleek and sophisticated but does tend to attract finger prints. This powder is very delicate and fragile, so I would be especially careful if travelling with them.

Texture:  This highlighter is very smooth and silky to touch. It definitely has powder texture and does not feel creamy as some powders can feel to touch. The shimmers in this highlighters are ultra-fine and do not feel gritty to the touch.

Application:  The shimmers in this highlighter provide a very subtle pearly sheen to the skin which is something I quite enjoy. In comparison to the Becca highlighter powders which are definitely very metallic, frosty looking on the skin, and to be honest can look be a bit overwhelmingly strong for some (not me, because I love a lot of that glow), these Hourglass powders look very very natural, not at all made up, and hence perfect for those who do not like a very strong, metallic-looking highlight, especially for day wear. I have used both my Real Techniques setting brush (which I love using to highlight)t and a fan brush to apply this and both work great.

Pigmentation:  The pigmentation is quite good. It shows up with semi-opaque coverage in 2 layers. You can use this powder wet or dry. When applied wet, the sheen is stronger though still not metallic looking, but the shimmers are much more visible and apparent on the skin. I usually only like to use this powder dry because if I need that strong highlight, I can always turn to my Becca highlighters without going through the whole trouble of wetting this product.

Shade:  This strobe powder is available in 4 shades. I have the shade “Brilliant Strobe,” which is a pale soft gold. It is quite similar to Becca Moonstone. It looks very flattering on my “light medium” warm toned skin.

Staying Power:  Staying power is pretty good. It stayed the whole day, which is about 7-8 hours for me without fading too much. It did not accentuate my dry patches or pores.
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder

Overall, I love this product and have been reaching for it quite a lot these days. I especially love it to use during the day time when I don’t want my highlight to look too strong yet give me a natural glow which is exactly what I get when I use this. I would absolutely recommend this product.

In the FOTD, I have applied the Hourglass Strobe Powder in “Brilliant” over Tom Ford Blush in the shade “Ravish.”
