-Twist the ultra slim lipstick to reveal product and apply. Retract product down before recapping.Â

My Experience with Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick If I Could, I Hide My:
Packaging: Refer to the pictures and I will try to explain the packaging here. I am sharing pictures of both â the Refillable lipsticks and the individual refills.
The Refillable Lipstick: The refillable lipstick is this elegant and extremely questionable (coming to that in a minute) golden applicator. The applicator has a lot of heft and screams luxury. You separate the cap from the pointed end of the applicator to reveal a twist-up lipstick. The lipstick is a thinner version of a regular lipstick with a slant tip.
Normally, I have issues with application â especially on the cupidâs bow â with a rounder slant tip lipstick. However, in this case, it isnât an issue because, the lipstick itself has a smaller diameter and it hugs the cupidâs bow nicely. The shade name is written on the side of the lipstick barrel. So, if you have more than one of these, you will need to open it each time and check the shade.
The shade name is thoughtfully put on the side of the lipstick barrel and not the golden applicator, since the same applicator can be used to fit in another shade of the refill lipstick. The mechanism to change is extremely easy â the refill detaches easily and can be replaced quickly. There is no rocket science to it.
Coming to the questionable part â the golden applicator is reminiscent of the cigarette holders used by Western world â mostly women from the 1910s to 1970s. They were made iconic by Audrey Hepburn (in Breakfast at Tiffanyâs) and Lucille Ball (in I Love Lucy). Having said that, I personally wonder how ethical it is for a brand to glamourize smoking! Anyway.
Refills: The refill consists of a black plastic lipstick case with a proper fitting cap. You pull out the cap to reveal the lipstick barrel. The lipstick shade is written on the side of the barrel as well as at the bottom. This bottom plug will actually need to be pulled out of the barrel to fix the lipstick into the golden applicator. While the golden applicator adds to the luxe feeling and the whole charm of the collection, you do not NEED the golden applicator. The refill can easily work on its own. The plastic case is in no way cheap plastic and is quite secure to use on its own.
A quick brief about the collection: This is like the naughty collection from Hourglass. All shade names reflect a âconfession statement.â Like âI Desireâ âIf Onlyâ, âIâm Addictedâ, etc.
If I Could: Described by the company as a âTrue Plum.â If I Could is a medium to dark purple with warm undertones and a satin finish. It has a little more brightness and a little more pink than the shade “I Hide My” to make it more wearable. However, it will still fall in the vampy category. It isnât the kind of shade that everyone would gravitate towards. However, from the plum/purple/berry ones in this range, this one is the most easily wearable. This would be in the same ballpark as MAC Rebel â with Rebel being a tad bit brighter apart from it being less pigmented.
I Hide My: Described by the brand as a âDeep Plum.â I Hide My is a deep berry shade with cool undertones and just a hint of grey to it and a satin finish. In certain lights, this shade may seem similar to the shade If I Could. However, as I mentioned, the shade If I Could is brighter, warm toned, has more pink in it and is not as opaque as I Hide My. The closest dupe I can think of is MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Colour in the shade Oh Lady, which I reviewed a while back.
Texture: Both shades have overall consistent formula. They are satin finish lipsticks. The texture is a creamy, lightweight and glides smoothly over the lips without being too slippery. I felt the shade If I Could glided ever so slightly more smoothly â had a little more slip than the shade I Hide My. However, once applied, they do not slide around and adhere well to the lips.
I find these two shades mildly hydrating. They are super comfortable to wear. Being a satin finish, it transfers easily to any surface it touches like cups, spoons, etc. And being a bold shade, the transfer is clearly visible. However, this does not seem to impact the pigmentation too much. It does not smudge outside the lip lines or feather or bleed. I did not see the need of using a lip liner with them.
Pigmentation: The shade If I Could is not as fully opaque in a single swipe as the shade I Hide My. There is a hint of glossy translucency that it has. You can build it up, but it does not become as intensely opaque as the shade I Hide My is in a single swipe. The brand promised âsaturatedâ lip colour and that is exactly what they deliver. As I mentioned earlier, being satin finish, it transfers to other surfaces it touches easily. However, the intensity of colour on the lips does mot seem to suffer much.
Lasting Power: Both the shades are long wearing and stay intact pretty much the whole day. The wear time will get effected by an oily meal. I get about 7-7.5 hours of wear time with If I Could and about 8-8.5 hours wear time with the shade I Hide My. They both leave a distinct stain which gives you another 2 hours plus of wear. As it starts disappearing from your lips, it wears off evenly and it does not look patchy.
Fragrance: There is a slight fragrance which seems like an added perfume, but it isnât unpleasant to the nose. Having said that â do note that I could smell it only when I actually sniffed the product. I did not register it during application.

Cons of Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Refillable Lipstick If I Could, I Hide My:
The amount of lipstick is distinctly lower than what any other slim lipstick offers. But then, Hourglass isnât really a drugstore or even mid-priced brand. They have positioned themselves consciously as a luxury brand and make no apologies for it.

These shades may not be everyoneâs cup of tea. They are too bold and too dramatic for everyday use. However, it is nice to see that the quality of the product seems overall consistent across the shades that I have tested. The brand has made some specific claims and the product lives up to them. Between the 2 shades, my pick would be If I Could, since I find the shade a tad bit more easy to carry off.
