Hourglass Monochrome Modernist Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatch, EOTD

Hello Everybody,

As you know from my preview, I bought 2 of the brand new Hourglass Modernist palettes. I already reviewed the Color Field palette and this review will be on the Monochrome Palette. I bought 2 of these shades thinking they will both give me complete different looks. The Color field had more darker deeper shades very apt for nighttime/party wear leaning more towards the green color family which I personally had never experimented with;whereas the Monochrome palette has more lighter shades apt for everyday/ office wear leaning more towards the pink shades which I love and am very comfortable using on a daily basis.

Having said that, if you thought the Color field palette was a disappointment; this one makes that palette seem a whole lot better.

About The Product:

An artist-inspired, eye shadow palette with seamless color transitions—offering effortless blending in a single pan.

What it does:

These long-wear, crease-resistant palettes flaunt five richly-pigmented shades in a range of matte to shimmer finishes for an endless array of creative eye looks. The innovative multi-press, three-dimensional design, paired with a fine, creamy texture, achieves a new level of control for blending and picking up pigment.

My Experience with Hourglass Monochrome Modernist Eyeshadow Palette:

Packaging:

Hourglass has released 7 of this modernist palettes all with the exact same outer case. The outer case is very lightweight but does attract lots of fingerprints and scratches. There is no applicator provided.

Texture:

The shadows in this palette are even more powdery than the Color Field palette. The moment you dip you brush in, there is powder scattering inside the compact into the other shades. The brush picks up a whole lot of product even with the lightest tap hence it is very important to tap you brush before application on the eye; or there is powder fall out everywhere!

The texture of the shadow powder is very soft and smooth and they are very easy to blend, almost too easy. It is very difficult to get a precise application of color where you want it with a few strokes of the brush, your eye look can get muddy very quickly.

Pigmentation:

Only 3 out of 5 shades in this palette have a decent pigmentation. The pigmentation of lighter shade is below average and they need layer after layers for color to show up.
Shade 1 is a matte light cream. Does not show up on my skin tone. Tried using this as a highlight and it did not perform well.

Shade 2 a shimmery deep pink nude. Pigmentation on this is good. The shimmer in this color is not gritty or chunky.

Shade 3 A matte baby pink. I was most excited about this shade as I do not have any color like this in my collection but this was by far the biggest disappointment. It is very powdery, chalky, has very bad pigmentation. Tried to use this shade wet and it did not make much difference. Needs 3-4 layers for it to even show up let alone pack color.
Shade 4 A deep plum mauve. It has small chunks of silver shimmer. The shimmers give a lot of fallout and they look very apparent and glittery in sunlight; which is a look many may not prefer. Pigmentation is good.

Shade 5 A deep chocolate brown also contains small chunks of silver glitter. Same issue as Shade 4. Pigmentation is good.

Staying power:

The staying power is very bad without a primer also one plus point worth mentioning which is also true for the Color field palette is that these shadows do not crease on me.

Overall, highly disappointed in this product. I am baffled at how a prestige company like Hourglass could even release a product like this and not to mention the hefty price of $58, which is just mind boggling.

I still prefer the Color field palette over this one but still I would not recommend this product to anybody. You are better off getting a Urban Decay Naked or a Lorac Pro palette at this price.
