Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick Review

Hello everyone,

I must admit stick foundations have become my thing these days. Ever since I got addicted to the ease of use these sticks provide, I have rarely even reached for my liquid foundations, which now seem more of a hassle. So, on the review of my third stick foundation after the MUFE HD stick foundation and the Tom Ford Stick Foundation, let’s read on more about the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation and see how it holds up against the others.

My Experience with Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick:

Packaging:  Since it is a stick foundation, it comes in the standard twist-up format. I do really like the triangular point which makes it exceptionally easy to deposit the product in smaller areas if you are using 2 different shades to do cream contouring. The stick looks very classy, but it’s also a fingerprint magnet.

Texture/Pigmentation/Coverage/Blendability:  This foundation is very emollient and creamy and just melts on contact with the warmth of your skin. It provides a customizable light, medium and all the way up to absolute full coverage depending on how much product you use. I was also quite impressed with the superb pigmentation and coverage this delivered with very little product, hence with a bit of a learning period, I was able to figure out just how much product is needed and it is remarkably less compared to how much I used with my other stick foundations. It is also easy to layer on itself without getting cakey hence you are easily able to start with little and add on as you see fit. I find that I love using my Beauty Blender to blend this out and it delivers an even smooth streak-free base with minimal effort. I have not tried using this nor prefer using brushes for foundations.

When used as a concealer, it does surprising well coverage wise, but does tend to crease in that area, hence I would advice against using it for that unless you take extra care to set it with baking.

Finish:  I don’t find a need to set this foundation all over and a light dusting on oily areas seem to work for me. It does not remain tacky or heavy or greasy on my skin once it sets to a beautiful soft demi-matte, natural-looking finish which does not look flat and has a hint of a natural radiance to it.

Shade: I have the shade “Warm Ivory,” which does lean a bit more yellow, but is still a good match. I did notice one thing when swatching this foundation in store and it’s that most shades were either too yellow or too pink and was having a difficult thing find the right balance of undertone, but their shade range is quite good and accommodating even to deeper skin tones.

Feel and look on skin/Staying Power:  My skin type is normal – dry usually leans more towards the latter in the winter months. I also happen to get a lot of dry and flaky patches. I did find that thing foundation tends to grab onto any uneven texture or flakiness hence I have to take extra care to make sure my skin is well exfoliated and moisturized. It also tends into sink into pores, so for best results use a pore-filling primer with this. Other than that, this foundation wears beautifully throughout the day. I find I don’t need to do touch-up all day, which is usually 7-8 hours for me; it does not crease or fade and photographs nicely, all plus points.

Overall, I do like this foundation, but I would still rate it a tad bit lower than my all-time favorite MUFE HD Stick Foundation only because the MUFE is more forgiving on my fickle dry skin, but in a matter of the superb coverage and staying power, Hourglass Vanish Stick rates higher in my books. I do love the Hourglass one more than the Tom Ford stick. Compared to the Tom Ford Stick Foundation which offers more satiny-dewy finish, the Hourglass one will be more suitable for oily-combination skin, but if you were still on the fence about this product, I would absolutely recommend this.

Pros of Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick:

  • Superb pigmentation, you need very little per application.
  • Blends beautifully with Beauty Blender and with minimal effort.
  • Long wearing, does not need many touch ups during the day.
  • Photographs nicely.
  • Classy and unique packaging with the triangular shape.
  • uildable and customizable coverage.
  • Does not feel heavy, greasy or remain tacky on the skin.

Cons of Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick:

  • Does cling onto dry patches and accentuates them.
  • Sinks into pores so it’s best to pair it with a pore-filling primer.
