How to Relieve Sore Muscles After Working Out

Well, there is a common myth which says that if your muscles are sore it means you have undergone an excellent training session. However, the fact says that workout and sore muscles don’t go hand-in-hand because sore muscles will not allow you to work out properly. Sore muscles are generally when your muscles are over stretched, thus, leading to pain and soreness. While your muscles are sore, it becomes extremely difficult to lift your hands and legs. So, here we mention simple ways to relieve sore muscles after working out.

1. Heat therapy:

Exposure to heat can help to relax the muscles, thus, increasing the blood flow in the body. According to the experts, relaxing in hot water can help to relieve pain and prevent the muscles from becoming sore. You should soak for some time in hot water or if you are suffering from sore muscles in a targeted area, apply direct heat to the point and wait for some time. Using heating pads can be an easy way to relieve sore muscles after working out.

2. Stretching routine:

It is very important to follow a proper stretching routine after your workout. Before you start working out, you should stretch your body and warm up for some time so that it reduces the effect of muscle soreness later. You should take some time and practice some stretches which involve movements so that it does not affect your muscles to a larger extent. If you’re new to stretching, you should start the workout slowly and steadily.

3. Intake more of Omega 3 fatty acids:

Intake of Omega 3 fatty acids is another easy way to relieve sore muscles easily. Omega 3 fatty acids tend to reduce the soreness and also help in relieving inflammation after an intense workout session. You should be consuming foods with high amount of Omega 3 fatty acids so that it minimizes the pain and also keep your body fit. Consume more of spinach, salmon fish, nuts, etc. which are high in Omega 3 fatty acids.

4. Keep your body hydrated:

It is important to keep your body hydrated during the workout session. Water not only helps to boost blood circulation in the body but also prevents the muscles from getting sore. You should drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day because if you get dehydrated, the chance of muscle cramps increases and also you may deal with bad sore muscle pain.

5. Ice it:

Soon after the workout, icing your muscles or the targeted areas can help to relieve pain and inflammation easily. Icing helps to calm down the inflammation and promotes healing. Experts have claimed that ice not only helps to boost blood circulation but it is effectively beneficial in treating sore muscles as well. Take some ice cubes and wrap them in a cloth. Now, apply on the targeted area and massage for some time. Until you can feel the soothing, there is no danger.

6. Alternate ice and heat massage:

You can switch between ice and heat over a specific period of time which will assure to calm down the inflammation and sore muscles easily. Ice and heat both calm down the soreness and also boost blood circulation easily. You can soak in cold water and then soak in hot water. You can also use ice pack followed by some heat pack and massage the muscles for some time (not more than 15 minutes each). Using a combination of heat and ice will surely help you.

7. Drink ginger juice:

Ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties which help to treat the soreness and inflammation in the muscles. According to studies, it is said that the ginger extract can help in relieving inflammation from the muscles and also reduce the pain. You should drink ginger tea twice in a day to alleviate body pain and muscle soreness.
