Skin Care: How To Determine Your Skin Type- Oily, Dry, etc.

Skin Type

Before starting IMBB I knew about only two skin types- covered and naked. But since then I have recurringly heard Rati mentioning ‘skin type’ in her conversation just the way our government constantly mentions the five-year plans; you get the hint that it is something important but you never get to know anything more about it. So I finally decided to do some research by myself, more so because I felt there might be many women who talk about their skin type but had no clear cut idea what it was or how to determine it. Who knew, I might be the child calling the emperor naked for the first time. And since I have already wasted one paragraph in worthless drivel I would get straight to the point about the result of my research:

The basic skin types are Normal, Dry, Oily, Combination, and Sensitive.

Normal skin:

Normal SKin

A skin which no woman believes she has it even if she does. Nothing normal about the smooth even skin which looks fresh and clean most of the time. It rarely breaks out and has good balance of water and oil.

Dry Skin:

You can write on it with your nails. Can’t do anything more with a skin that feels tight after washing and stays dry and flaky. The skin shows signs of aging faster than any other skin type.

Oily Skin:

If you are a cricket bowler you would appreciate this kind of skin. You can rub the ball on this greasy skin and polish it instantly. If you are not a cricket bowler, however, you would not like this oily fountain with large pores on which no makeup can stick for long. Also, your nose and forehead would look like chhole bhatoore.

Combination Skin:

Some area for the bowlers, some areas for writing. That’s it. Your T zones would look oily by midday but rest of the face may look normal or dry.

Sensitive Skin:

Easily irritated skin, can be itchy and reddens easily. Use hypoallergenic cleansing lotion and unperfumed moisturizer for this kind of skin.

How To Determine Your Skin Type

1. Wash your face clean with a cleanser. Dry yourself and wait for 30 minutes. Do not touch your face.
2. Take some tissues and press them on different areas of your face; chin, nose, center of cheeks, outer cheeks, center of forehead, and outer forehead.
3. Examine the tissues for oily or flaky residue. You can determine your skin type as follows:

  • a. If the tissues stick, become little oily or translucent your skin is oily.
  • b. If the tissues are oily only on T zones (center of forehead, nose, chin and center of cheeks), you have a combination skin.
  • c. If the tissues are not oily but have flaky residue, you have a dry skin.
  • d. No oil patches and no flaky residues means you can donate us some money. You have a normal skin type.

      1. Yeah, why not. Let me only make products for you. I’ll make the beshtest especially for you. You pay me. The prices would be quite high- Rs 5000 per 10 gm of product. Okay? :cute: :cute: :shy: :shy:

        1. I don’t want..thank you very much. I know you bought certain products that have goodness-know-what hair in it and smells like dead rodents and you would just pack that up and pass it off to me ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

              1. ‘ll try to convince your hubby to buy that. Note would say ” with special inputs from your wife :cute: ”

I hope it doesn’t turn the other way round. ๐Ÿ˜

  1. hmmmmm…Nice description of all the skin types :-). I always thought that my skin was a combination skin type. ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜

But, I guess it all depends on the climatic conditions and temperature and humidity of the atmosphere as well. ?:-) ?:-) If I retrospect on my skin health throughout till date, it becomes oily in summers, but remains normal in winters. Bangalore weather really suits my skin, and it remains normal most of the times, without ever breaking out. I can say that coz many times it happens that I wash my face with some face wash, and almost forget to put any cream on it, and don’t even notice any dryness or oily stuff ever appearing on it!! ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜› …After hours or so, if I get bored of something and want to do some feel-good stuff, I may take the cream and apply it over my face! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

      1. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ …yeah…please add this point too to the article!! ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜› I may be in a position to donate money while staying in Bangalore.. But, if I go to Chennai or Rajasthan ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜ …I can very well go ahead and ask for donations and free giveaways from all here…hehe!! ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜›

        1. You are so right! I have a combi skin when in Mangalore and its dry in Bangalore. Kinda prefer Mangalore weather for the skin ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You call the summers here horrid??????? ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ..Gosh! Try visiting northern India in Summers…..especially Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh and West Bengal side. Your skin will be exposed to the endurance test of all kinds, right from extreme hot-dry to ultra-hot-and-humid climatic conditions.

Then you can probably decide properly about your skin type!! he he ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜› ..

For me, Bangalore weather in all seasons is heaven, coz I’ve been to all above mentioned places in almost all the weathers. I guess probably that is the reason why my skin has become like this. ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜

        1. yeah..Bangalore’s weather was amazing even in summers when I came here first in year 2003. It was so beautiful!!…But, with all these construction businesses and cutting of trees, summers have lost their charm here!..I so much miss the good-old-Forum-less Koramangala and empty broken roads! sigh! :-(( :-((

          1. Hehehee…I hated Bangalore when we landed here…was so windy and cold…was so depressed we had to move here…. :giggle: :giggle: …I don’t even remember a summer summer then..but now it can get pretty uncomfortable especially with the power cuts.

          2. Spent time in drinking binges in Bangalore at NASA, Cellar and other pubs in 1999- 2000. Don’t even know if the pubs exist now. Forum wasn’t there and so weren’t the traffic jams that are now part of Bangalore. In 2004- 2005, used to stay at Kormangala only with my bridge team mates. And I slowly lost the charm of the city…

  2. ahem ahem I knew since ages that I had oily skin…… ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ….. :announce: :announce: :announce: :announce: :announce: Hyderabadis are the Best. :announce: :announce: :announce: :announce: :announce: :announce: :announce:

      1. Hey Hey…………. :handshake: :handshake: :handshake: :handshake: :handshake: :handshake: :handshake: :handshake: …..so we are fraands then even though I don’t understand your double-meaning dialogues O:-) O:-) O:-) O:-) O:-) O:-) :loser:

  3. Mine is combination skin.

Thnx a lot for the article, i knew about the skin types, but did’nt know the process to determine skin types.

That wd b a lot of help, coz now i can suggest to girls around me if they ask me anything about knowing their own skin types.

My little sister & her hubby are in b’lor n i’m sure to visit it sooner or later. Hv heard a lot about the good weather & bad traffic jams.

  4. nice article for a guy. ๐Ÿ˜› but hey sanjeev, i like ur sense of humor very much. i dont know my skin type, but it’s definitely not dry or sensitive. my skin remains oily during summer and normal during winter. and all of my pimples and acne take place only on my nose. i hate that. :reallypissed: :reallypissed:

  5. no oilyness no flakes. but little dry……..
    So i guess DRY…………… :-((
But if i will chk it in summers it will be oily, ?:-)

Oh GOD, Y CANT ALL GIRLS HAVE PERFECT SKIN ??? ……… ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜›
