How To Dress for a First Date

How To Dress For a Perfect Date

Don’t we all love to go on dates once in a while .Well! I do . I and my boyfriend always try to balance out life with friends and all their chaos but in the end we do go on date night – just the two of us for dinner, movie or drive :). Whether it’s the first time with a new love or a night out on the town with your hubby, we girls must dress up for the occasion.. trust me it’s totally worth it. 🙂 The thing I dread the most is dressing for a date 🙁 I agonize as to what to wear when I go out for a date. Inspite of having tons of clothes which my mom keeps saying … I always yell “ I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR YAARRRRR !!! “ I think most of us must be doing this.:) In this article I will share a few dating fashion tips- do’s and don’ts . these all are like basics for everyone of us to know, no matter where we are going and what the occasion is . Hope you like it 🙂

  • Always wear something which you’re comfortable in. You don’t want yourself to be self- conscious while you‘re out with him. Wear something that gives more insight into your personality. For an extra special touch, choose a color that he might like.
  • Ill-fitted and shapeless clothes are a BIG NO- NO for any occasion but also don’t dress up like you’re trying to make a statement – THIS IS A MUST FOR PEOPLE GOING ON FIRST DATES. Women wearing skimpy clothes can leave wrong impression.

  • Highlight your best feature by wearing clothes or accessories that compliment them. DRESS YOUR AGE. Don’t dress something that your granny will want to wear; dressing too old or too young is totally turn off.

  • If you’ re going out with your bf/husband on a traditional romantic dinner date, keep in mind the style of Audrey Hepburn and not Dolly Bindra or Pamela Anderson ( big boss kafi dekh liya.. its taking toll on my life :rotfl: ). I recommend every women MUST have a basic black dress suitable for all occasions. They are always in style and you can always accessorize them accentuating your personality without over-doing it.

  • If you’re going for a casual date like I go with my bf all the time, choose a structured T-shirt designed for women. Do not wear unisex T-shirts unless your goal is to look boyish and YEAH DON’T cut them up or tie them on the side to make them appear “SEXIER” . Trust me it looks TRASHY !!!

• Please choose fabrics that accentuate your figure, they should not look like they are repainted on you. Experiment with flowy fabrics, they make you look sensual. 🙂

• Too much BLING .It’ ll make your date FLING AWAY .:D Don’t overdo it please.

  • Make-up should be subtle. Always remember NOT to overdo it. Your makeup should compliment you and should not look like it’s plastered on. Opt for neutral shades and hint of lip-gloss. Attractive and appropriate clothing along with subtle makeup can enhance your confidence, which will help you shine on your date.
  • A casual day dress can double for night with proper accessorising, a pair of covered high-heels in your basic colours, sandals in a lighter shade though again, the basic colours apply here —I recommend each of us to have one.

  • Lastly – Belts, handbags, scarves, brooches, necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets/bangles are all good for dressing up an outfit and for changing your entire look. Just don’t go overboard and wear them all at once.
  • It’s okay to change your look completely for a while, for example if you have limp hair apply mousse from roots to tip and then flip your head down and blow dry. This will give your hair a nice bouncy look..
  • You can try experimenting with hair extensions to give you a completely different look – its perfect for a night out. If you have shorter hair, attach hair extensions underneath your hair and curl them to give you nice wavy curls.
  • For a formal outing, try a glam hairdo – sleek French twist can never go out of style. 🙂
  • It’s always good to wear branded/ designer clothes for a date but you must look classy and not like a fashion victim.. Please don’t dress yourself from head to toe in designer brands. Max one or two branded apparel/ accessories will look classy.
  • Try on a new perfume to give you a boost of confidence. ☺ Also no matter what you are wearing you won’t feel confident and sexy if you are wearing droopy bra and granny panty underneath— Please buy sexy undergarments. YES girls!! If not about just how you feel but your undergarments will make a difference on how the clothes fit you.

Lastly, if you’re going on your first date. JUST be yourself, smile and be friendly. Work towards building trust and make a little effort to look good.Everything will go well.ENJOY 🙂

  1. Loved your post!!! Nicely enunciated..and the pics r just so right and ..err hilarious    ..hehe..I guess first date is as much to express as to listen..so our looks should not cry out for attention but should be charming as well-tricky task :chic: :chic: ..even if it is with your best friend 😉 😉

  2. Rids! This was one fun post!
ROFL at the “too much bling….”

I live with my parents now and am not allowed to date 🙄
So I guess I’ll just apply these rules to just nights out about town!

I personally feel you can never go wrong with nice dark jeans, a boyfriend blazer and a good pair of pumps! Oh yea..and lots and lots of mascarra! 😉

      1. Ugh. So over that. Ab seedha shaadi.
I’m convinced I won’t find anyone myself! Thank gawd I’m Indian and can have an arranged marriage!
        Dating, boyfriend…everything after that!!!! :X-P:

        1. what do you mean by “Thank gawd I’m Indian and can have an arranged marriage! ? ” Like doesnt it happen in all cultures that if you are not able to find a guy/ girl for yourself, your parents find someone for you? 😯 😯

          1. It doesn’t! I have so many nice, single, female friends here that want to settle down. But guys here are major D’bags..so they just get caught in a dating cycle they never get out of 🙁 🙁

              1. Good you have decided that for yourself. Because after a point of time people do get miserable if they are not able to find a decent partner for themselves.:((

                1. I know! I was feeling so bad (secretly) when I read that whole post Sanjeev did on IMBB!
You guys are lucky to have each other! <3
I'm giving it one year, if I don't meet a decent guy who likes me even with my feminist ideas – it's up to mummy papa!

  3. very cute and informative article, Rids. 🙂

I believe that your makeup should be soft and not distracting that your guy end up giving more attention to your makeup than you.

    1. but many a times bold red lips also works on a date too…. 😉
      cute post 🙂
do we get nice hair extensions in bombay? if so , where?

      1. just randomly -i read somewhere that guys dont really want to kiss someone with red or jhattak orange lipstick… as in in their subconsious mind they fear that the colour will rub off on their clothes/skin , they rather kiss soft hued lips … :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/

  4. guess sanjeev is on experimentation mode again … but its so cute .. everytime i refresh , the pic on right changes , they are sooo boootifooolll    :jump: :jump: :jump: :jump:

  5. Wish you had wrote this post a month earlier…. :-(( :-(( :-((
this is so informative…loved reading it Rids  :-*

on my first date I wore black tunic and black legging with simple black heels……and minimal makeup…..I don’t know I got it ryt or not….but who care when he proposed me later that day itself… 😛 😛 😛

  6. still working on it. But better than no font no? I think it would take a few days for the full layout to get ready. Right now just testing and trying. :))

  7. Heee heee this is a cute article ….. my first date was black scoop neck tee and grey pinstripe trouser/pants with big hoops and just eye make up …. I remember being sooooooo nervous ….. but I still love dressing up for dates …

Honestly I have to say one though … the most imp thing is to dress like yourself .. I mean if you are red lipstick girl then be comfy in your shoes and do that na… give the guy a chance to fall for who u really are !

Oh and Neha Jinal if you guys have an IMBB mumbai meet count me n :waiting2: :waiting2: :waiting2: :waiting2: Ill be in Mumbai by the end of this year … :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Devie thank u for including me      cannt believe ur parents dont let u date … :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: :waiting: but oh well – am sure u had a secret snog somewhere 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉 😉

    1. Aww J, you’re just too cute :beauty:
I guess having a serious bf would go down better with my parents than me hanging out with random guys. But lucky for them it’s been more than a year since I met someone worthwhile! O:)
And lol I’ve had more than my share of snogs and then some :dazed: … :pain:

  8. :headbang: :headbang: Tiring and frustrating night but finally got the smileys back and some extra good ones too. :joker: :joker: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :dance1: :dance1:

  9. my stories are so bad that i better keep my mouth shut

first bf , kaamchor (does not stick to a job in two months),

second one was a two timer , i made plans to give him an acid bath (like lure him in itsy bitsy clothes and ask him to come over my place and then fill the tub wt acid and push him inside), then the current one came to rescue

    1. cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee… :shutmouth: :shutmouth: :shutmouth: :shutmouth: I am a good girl..and I think you need some :timeout: and sleep     !! O:) O:) ..BTW       to both of you!!! :drunk: :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:
