Deepthi N. asks:

Hi Girls,

I have been suffering from severe acne over the past few months and I have been to this very famous dermatologist in Whitefield. She suggested me to use Cutirinz foaming face wash, Glintra gel for morning usage and A-diff cream for night usage. Another colleague suggested DermaDew soap, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone suggest any good dermatologist.  Please suggest me what to use ? Here is the pic of my skin state currently.

Acne cream

Please help me!

  1. Hi Deepthi,

it does not seem to be cystic acne, so that’s good news. Have you changed to any ayurvedic or harsh soaps because they can dry out your skin and trigger acne. If you are using any acne-medicated soap, I would suggest to stop and switch to a mild face wash. As far as I can understand,it does not look hormonal either, but you should rule out any such underlying condition. Other things that you can take care of is changing face towels frequently and following home remedies.

  2. Hey Hi,

Even I have gone through acne phase.. But now its almost clearing, you can visit Dr.Adarsh in KIMS Hospital, Bangalore.. in OPD department..

  3. Hi deepthi, your acne looks like it is induced from external reasons possibly clogged pores due to certain products or exposure to dust/pollution. Try finding out the culprit by removing suspicious products from your regimen for a week. I found that my compact was giving me breakouts inspite of being non comedogenic. Apart from that try using sebamed face wash in the morning and a good cleansing face wash at night like kaya soothing cleansing gel. Also include some products with glycolic acid. Hope this helps.

  4. Hi,
I feel this is the common problem for women. Its mostly seen in teenage and the women who are stressed.
So I suggest eat less oil, drink more water and finally keep your face fresh, cover your face when you go out into pollution and wash with lukish warmwater.avoid oil food and use cleanser for dirt removal it opens your pores too.apply a good moisturizer with aloevera as ingredient in the night times.finally don’t touch your face always with nails, have a good sleep.wake up fresh..it makes a beautiful you.

  5. hello deepthi,
i recently visited a dermatologist for a similar kind of issue….she suggested me to use papulex cream..once in the morning and at night before going to bed…its a very effective cream if u use it daily…its now available in india…but still i would suggest you to visit a dermatologist…

  6. Hi deepthi.. Well acne is a nightmare for me too… my suggestions for acne free skin is to apply a home made pack twice a day ..

Take 1teaspoon of milk powder ,add 1/2 spoon sugar & 1/4spoon of salt and add some drops of water to make a paste then massage for 4-5 minutes , keep it on your face for about 10-15minutes & wash it off with normal water…

Try this for minimum 3-4 weeks and it well help to reduce your acne issues…

  7. I also have just passed from this horrible phase..The best thing is visit Dermatologist… cause every patient is individual.. and the cream works for someone might not work for you…mostly Benzec 0.025 is suggested most of the time..but it also dry the skin…U must visit A good dermatologist before trying anything on skin…best of luck

  9. hey Deepthi !!!
I would suggest using essential tea tree oil and a tea tree oil face wash!!! I used the pure nature range of oriflame and it really worked for me !!!! You have a mild case of acne and the tea tree oil will help in clearing it out !!!!

  10. I would suggest you to get your thyroid and vitD levels checked…i apply clindac A at night..it has worked very well for me.

  11. Hi deepthi!
this actually doesn’t seem that bad, believe me, I’ve battled a lot worse!

Like shreya mentioned, even my dermatologist suggested papulex, and also glyco A, but yeah, do consult your dermatologist. Also, I’d say avoid using anything with benzoyl peroxide- it pretty much left me with skin that looked and felt severely sunburned!

One home remedy that gave me great results was oatmeal – basically take a handful, moisten with warm water, apply all over and wait till dry. when washing off, scrub with it – it is extremely gentle.

    hope this helps!
    Khushali

  12. There is a less expensive method..use salt water to treat your acne area after face wash..salt is very effective in killing all the bacterias, but don’t overuse coz it is drying for some ppl..

  13. I’m an 18yr old at the peak of my hormones and I have battled acne since I hit puberty. I used to have breakdowns, multiple dermat visits but no one prescription helped me. Honestly it takes a lot of trial and testing to figure out what’s best for your skin and once you do you’ll never stray from it! My daily routine now is: no face wash in morning! the oils that build over night for your skin are good for you as surprising as this is. I have horribly oily skin but washing it in the morning got rid of the good oils and left my skin unprotected (even with sunscreen) for outside heat and humidity. If you had medicine from the night before use a mild facewash like Lotus Herbals Cinnamon and tea tree oil wash. Use a good makeup remover like Bioderma or a natural oil like Almond Oil. For make up avoid using foundations or heavy based concealers. Use a light BB cream. I suggest Garnier, other brands made me break out. If you’re going to use another sunscreen avoid all other makeup at whatever cost. Stick to a basic eyeliner. Sunscreens are always excessively moisturizing. Avoid if you can unless you’re going to the beach where dry salty wind would balance the moisture levels on your face.
Now for the main medication, for really quick spot treat I used Dr. Reddys 12% salicylic acid cream. THIS IS VERY STRONG AND IT WILL CAUSE A BURNING SENSATION. do NOT massage into your skin over a larger area. just dab a small amount and leave over night. this is only for white bacteria filled, or cyst like acne.
Another amazing cream is the Epidio 2.5% benzoyl peroxide by Galderma. For the first 2 weeks massage into the skin only on ALTERNATE days before sleeping because it WILL burn by increasing the healing process of your skin. This reduces scars dramatically but it does take time for your skin to get used to it. After 2 weeks apply daily.
For moisturizers only use trusted brands like cetaphil. I have oily skin so I only use 3 drops of the cleansing lotion for my entire face.
At night after spending a whole day out at college or with friends and removing makeup, I used a clean and clear foaming face wash to get rid of all the grime and dirt.
    Other tips:
*change pillow covers every week or 2 weeks. Avoids accumulation of dirt on the face during night when skin heals.
*use flat makeup remover cotton pads to remove makeup not tissue. Tissue soaks up all facial oils, even the good stuff and leaves your skin dry and prone to wrinkles.
*introduce green tea into your diet. Best times to take – in the morning before eating anything and in the evening after your dinner meal.
*EXFOLIATE your face ONLY once a week. I use boroplus face scrub. This step is mandatory with medication to help rid your skin of the dry top layer to encourage new skin growth. Do NOT scrub too hard. Squeaky clean is not a good sign for the face.
*go for a face clean up at parlors once in a month or 2 and MENTION specifically for sensitive skin. It actually makes a difference in the way the remove black and white heads and the face packs they use. Took me a while to figure this one out :p

Took me 2-3 years to finally settle on all these products. Unfortunately pure tea tree oil was not the solution for me as it didn’t improve the skin healing and producing effect all over.
    Hope this helps !

  14. I would also like to mention that yes, with benzoyl peroxide for a while your skin will get a reddish tinge but that’s because of the healing process that tends to speed up over time. Like I said it takes time for your skin to understand and adjust to a faster healing process, but if you have the patience and endurance to bare with it, then benzoyl peroxide is actually a better composition than salicylic acid.

  15. Also, the above mentioned Dr. Reddy’s medicine was not prescribed to me I discovered it in my nearby drugstore and through trial and error found out the best way to utilize it. Epiduo however was a prescription medicine.
