How To Get Supple and Soft Lips All Day Long

I think we all agree when I say that no one wants chapped and dry lips. Lipstick ends up looking terribly flaky and weird if your lips start peeling or they just look horrid. We all can only dream of having hydrated, supple and soft lips. Well, I had been doing these tips that I am about to share with you for half a year now and it’s been amazing so far. My lips feel awesome and all of the above. Every night before you sleep, you might go through your night routine first.  This is a night routine for your lips, I call it “lip care.”It may be a hassle to add into your routine at first, but you will get the hang of it and trust me, it’s worth the hassle.

how to make lips glossy

Lips Care Before Bed:

Step 1:

You can use a lip scrub, Lush has some really good ones, but if you just don’t want to spend the money on a lip scrub or if you go through the same problem as me, which is Lush isn’t available at your place; you can always use a facial scrub. Use any facial scrub of your choice and scrub your lips.  I am using St. Ives Blemish Control Apricot Scrub. I really like this scrub because it gets rid of all the dead skin on your lips and face.  You can scrub on alternate days or when you feel like you need to, I tend to alternate between this scrub and a gentle DIY lip scrub as I do it everyday.

Step 2:

Apply a super hydrating lip product on your lips. It’s kind of like masking your lips for the night.  I would recommend something thick and something that doesn’t wear off easily during the night.  I have been using Lucas’ Papaw Ointment on my lips every night and the results just turn out amazing.  The next day,  my lips are crazy soft, hydrated and supple. The ointment is a little glossy, it doesn’t feel heavy on the lips, but it is thick.  Your lips won’t feel sticky either.  If Lucas’ Papaw Ointment isn’t available, you can always turn to Vaseline. It’s almost as hydrating and the results turn out same the next day.

However, during the day, our lips get exposed to the sun and all the UVA and UVB rays. Because of that, out lips are bound to get dry, right? During the day, lip balms become our best friends. It keeps out lips hydrated and soft throughout the day if you find the right one.  I will be showing you guys a few, so take your pick:

Nivea Essential Care:

This lip balm by Nivea is a classic. It isn’t too oily, it locks in moisture in your lips and feels totally lightweight. It’s got a soft texture and there’s no fragrance whatsoever. The packaging is also light, sturdy, tiny and travel friendly. It doesn’t contain SPF, but does a great job at caring for you lips, even if they’re chapped.

Vaseline Intensive Care Lip Essence Cherry:

This is apetroleum jelly product as expected of Vaseline. This is great to use on top of your lipsticks. It has a glossy finish so there’s no need for a lip gloss. It does the job of hydrating your lips and leaving it soft. It has a cherry scent to it, but it’s not too heavy and the product itself doesn’t feel sticky on the lips nor heavy. It’s almost as if you barely have it on. The packaging is cute, sturdy, and travel friendly without a doubt. This product also does not contain SPF.

Mentholatum Lip Balm/Protectant with SPF 15:

It’s a mentholatum lip balm which means that when you put it on, it will have a cooling effect. True to its word, it does have a cooling effect. It doesn’t hurt but it feels like you rubbed mint on your lips in a good way. I like using this when I have chapped, dry lips that are beyond repair because this just fixes them up. It also hydrates and keeps your lips soft. If your lips are prone to sun burnt lips, this will be perfect for you. The SPF isn’t too high but it does contain SPF 15 in it. It has a light medicated scent but you can’t really smell it and it’s got a nice texture. Not oily, not glossy, lightweight on the lips and it isn’t sticky. Packaging wise, it’s like all the others.

Oh, and here’s a extra tip that I bet you guys had no idea about. Don’t lick your lips! Why? It draws out the moisture from the lips and you end up with chapped and dry lips. I know it’s a habit and it’s hard to control it, but once you do, it’s worth it.  I have stopped licking my lips for the longest time and it really did make a difference. Try your best girls! 🙂

I hope these tips helped you girls and feel free to throw in some suggestions too! 😀

  2. Nice tips natasha….. Sad we dont get lush or lucas paw paw in india… I use a lip scrub from TBS, and the elizabeth arden eight hr skin protectant is a must for my lips, elbows , knees etc, at night

    1. Arpita if I’m not wrong, I think there’s a Lush store in Select Citywalk…I remember seeing it a couple of years ago. *scared* *scared*

  3. Also taking multivitamins are a must to prevent cheilosis and glossitis… Just make sure it contains vit B1, and vit B2 ( thiamine and riboflavin) in it. Many brands in market do not have either of the two ingredients… And then they are of no use. Also drink plenty of water… It keeps our body, skin as well as lips hydrated
