How are you all? Today I am going to talk about different ways to remove or fade hair colour. If your blonde hair has gone too ashy or you still have a slight tint from your last colour hanging around your hair, you need to follow these home remedies which can help you to lighten 2-3 tones of hair colour. Try one of these out and let me know how it worked for you!

Vitamin C Treatment

This is the easiest method to knock your colour 1-2 levels of tone. The best part is that Vitamin C treatments do not affect the natural colour.

You Need:
Two 1000 mg Vitamin C tablets (powder will also work )
Mild shampoo

Procedure:
1. Take two 1000 mg Vitamin C tablets and crush them.
2. Let them dissolve in the mild shampoo. Be ready for the treatment as you need to pour this solution soon after the tablets are dissolved.
3. Apply this solution all over you hair and make sure every strand of coloured hair is covered. 4. Wear a hair cap and leave it for 30 minutes. Keep checking your hair after every 10 minutes.
5. Wash it off after 30 minutes, best followed with a conditioner.

Note: If you feel a itching and a burning sensation, wash it off immediately.

Colour Remover

Colour removers falls under two categories – colour strippers and colour reducers. Colour strippers work more like bleach, and can be too harsh to your hair. Colour reducers are the best to remove hair colour. Colour reducers do not affect the natural colour, and only remove the artificial colour from your hair.

How to Use:
How to use a color remover varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Generally, using 2-3 times of colour removers removes the artificial hair colour to a great extent. Following the instructions of manufacturer about the product is very important for a) your hair’s safety and b) to get the most out of the product. When instruction says ‘wash it off after 20 minutes’, simply do it!

Anti-Dandruff Shampoo

Sounds simple, but anti-dandruff shampoos can work wonders on your coloured hair. It helps in removing the unwanted pastel colour from your hair.

You need
Anti-Dandruff shampoo

Procedure:
Few washes with anti-dandruff shampoo will lighten it up. Make sure you follow this with a good conditioner because anti dandruff shampoos tend to leave your hair dry.

Bleach Bath

Bleach bath consist of bleach and shampoo.

You Need:
Some bleach
Shampoo

Procedure:
1. Take equal amounts of bleach and shampoo.
2. Mix them well and apply this to your hair immediately.

Take all other cautions so that bleach does not affect your skin and clothes. Keep this on for 20 minutes and wash it off. Make sure the mixture is not over kept in your hair; it may affect the natural colour of your hair.

Swimming

If you want to fade your hair, you can swim in chlorinated water. Swimming in chlorinated water will help you in fading the semi-permanent hair colour. The effects are subtle, but if you’re a regular swimmer, you will notice a difference. Chlorine can damage your hair owing to prolong exposure, so always shampoo after swimming.

Sun Exposure

No one wants to expose themselves to the strong sun in summer. Most of the permanent hair color are photostable. If you can manage to expose a bit of your coloured hair, you can notice the difference. Don’t forget to protect your skin from tanning. Sun exposure works well on all colour dyes.

Bath Salt

This is the ancient method that our granny would use to relieve her back pain, aches etc. Salt contains bicarbonate and works wonder when mixed with water. It can pool all your artificial colours away.

You Need:
Salt
Water

Procedure:
Soak your hair in this salted water for as long as possible; you can see the pool of colour where you have been soaking. Salt bath does not damages your natural hair either.

  1. Have tried anti dandruff shampoo, swimming, sun exposure and salt water methods.
    my favorite method- use an anti dandruff shampoo (I used head&shoulder shampoo and matrix conditioner) and wash it off with salty lukewarm water. Follow up with a cold water rinse.
