Steps To Make The Homemade Orange Hairspray:-

Step 1- Collect all your ingredients. Next, add 1 cup of water to a shallow pan, cut out the oranges into smaller pieces and add it to the pan. You don’t have to peel the oranges.

Step 3- Once the water has reduced to half, turn the gas off and wait for the mixture to cool down.

Step 4- Now strain the mixture with a very fine strainer or a cheese cloth or a napkin.

Step 5- This step is optional, but I suggest you to do it. Add 1/2 tbsp of vodka to the mixture. This will increase the shelf life of the hair spray. Though it is suggested that you place the hair spray in the fridge, but once you add vodka, you can keep it in a cool dry place.

Step 6- Just transfer it to the spray bottle and voila! You got your own home made hair spray in barely 30 minutes!

How does this hair spray work?

I am pretty sure you must be thinking, that how does an Orange on heating make a hair spray? Well, this is because of a chemical substance called ‘Pectin’ present in the oranges. Pectin is widely used in the food industry, like in making jams. This is basically present in all fruits, but citrus fruits have the highest concentration of pectin. Pectin helps to hold things together. So you can also use any other citrus fruit for this, like lemon. However, lemon can lighten the texture of your hair, so I suggest you to use oranges. Also, with time, the effect of pectin decreases. So I suggest you to make a new batch every 2-3 weeks.

Test time! I curled a section of my hair to try this hair spray at 2 pm. I sprayed 2-3 times and the result really impressed me. The next picture is of 4pm. The curls look almost the same! Well the third picture is of 11pm! The curls have barely loosened and they looked pretty good!

Homemade Orange Hairspray Result

I was amazed by the result of this hair spray. I definitely love this more over my store bought hair spray. You may have to spray this hairspray a few more times than your regular hair spray, but it will hold the hair in place the entire day for sure! You could also add oils for fragrance, but I wanted to keep this as simple as possible, so I haven’t added anything else.

So, go ahead and try this amazing hair spray yourself! It’s easy, effective and won’t cost you anything! Hope you all have a lovely day!
