How to make mouth watering Matar Paneer
Hello Friends. Sorry I know I would have sent this post much earlier but was being a bit lazy in clicking snaps while cooking 😛 but today I am finally back with another paneer recipe. It is our very own favourite Matar Paneer that is easy to make, is rich and off course delicious to taste.
So let’s start with the ingredients which are required to make this dish. This much would be enough to serve 6 people easily.
Image showing the basic ingredients.
• Paneer (home made so can’t give the exact measurement).
• 1 cup of peas.
• 1 big tomato.
• 2 onions
• Green chillies, ginger and garlic according to the taste.
• General spices – red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, salt, Asafoetida (heeng), cumin seeds and kasuri methi.
• Oil to cook. I prefer mustard oil but you can take refined oil too.
Step 1: Begin by making a paste of tomatoes, onions with green chillies and garlic-ginger. Preferred way is to make all these pastes separately and them cook them one after another which results in better looking dish. But I am always in a hurry and mix all of these together in the grinder. 😛
Step 2: Take a pressure cooker and heat around 2 big spoons of mustard oil in it. You can even do the cooking in a pan/Kadai if you have boiled peas and if you have made the pastes of the above ingredients separately as that way you can cook items one after the other by giving proper time. I prefer using a cooker to save the cooking time.
Step 3: When the oil heats up then add 2 pinch of Asafoetida and then add a teaspoon of cumin seeds and turmeric powder. Now lower the heat.
Step 4: Now add the paste of the main ingredients and cook it properly for 8-10 minutes till you can see oil on the sides of the cooker/pan (means that the mixture gets little separated from the oil that you can see on the sides). You can add little water too to the mixture to cook properly.
Step 5: Now add the red chilli powder, and coriander powder according to your liking. You will see the required red color appearing in your dish now. Stir and add your peas in it and then cook for some time again. If you are using a pan/kadai then better cover it up and then let this mixture cook for 5 minutes so that the peas get cooked properly. In a cooker, this is not required.
Step 6: Now cut your paneer into medium sized pieces and add them into the cooker.
Add Salt according to your taste and 1 cup of water too. Water level can be varied according to the consistency of the dish required. If you want thinner curry then add more water.
Step 7: Add 1 spoon of kasuri methi leaves to add that extra taste and now close the cooker and let the dish cook for 5 minutes on full heat or till you hear 1 cooker whistle. Switch off the gas.
Step 8: Check the cooker by opening the lid after 7-8 minutes. Now add previously chopped fresh coriander leaves and a teaspoon of garam masala into the cooker. Stir once carefully so as not to break the soft paneer pieces and again cover the lid or close the cooker for another 2-3 minutes.
Your Matar Paneer is ready to be served now. Just add some coriander leaves for garnishing.
It smells and tastes great. Hope you people would try it yourself. It’s not that difficult to make but do is wonderful to taste. :yahoo:

ohh sorry for replying late ramuya.. i answered ur query in my first reply to jomo.. if u can chk.. method is the same..
Thanks Nids for such quick recipe. My kids love Mutter Paneer. I used to make it using Rasoi magic. I tried your recipe and it turned out delicious. Much better than Rasoi Magic…ek dum ghar ka swad…thank you so much….also the paneer pieces size grew almost double after cooking and very juicy. Can Palak paneer be made same way in pressure cooker?
oh Hi monica… so nice to hear tht u tried it n found the recipe tastier n better than readymade masala :yahoo: :yahoo: … well about palak paneer, i already shared tht recipe here.. u can chk it in the Recipe category… Palak paneer can be made in pan only .. a cooker is not required as we already boil the palak first in the cooker .. later a simple pan or kadai can work.. u plz chk my recipe.. it’ll help u as there are pics to explain the dish..
