In today’s post, I’m going to share with you some handy tips on how you can make your party makeup last longer. These tips are especially useful if you have oily skin. Oily skin tends to break the makeup down quite easily, allowing it to melt and fade quickly. And, when it comes to wearing makeup to a party where there is lots of drinking, dancing and eating, the makeup tends to disappear even faster. So, if you’re looking to sport a smokey eye with a winged liner or a bold lip with lots of cheekbone highlight, then here are some tips on how to make all that beautiful makeup last throughout the night.
1. Prep your Skin Correctly:
Starting your beauty routine with the right kind of skincare routine sets the base for the makeup to follow. Make sure to cleanse your skin thoroughly. Follow this up with a pore minimizing toner. You could also rub an ice cube over your face to soothe the skin and further reduce the size of your pores. Finish everything up with a hydrating moisturizer. Make sure not to use a thick or heavy oil-based cream. You should use a lightweight moisturizer that is formulated specially for oily skin types and provides long-lasting hydration.
2. Use a Primer Formulated for Oily Skin:
There are many kinds of primers available in the market. Some of them are deeply hydrating and silicone-based and are formulated for dry skin. The others are pore minimizing and are better suited for oily skin. Some recommendations to control excess oil and help the makeup last longer are Smashbox Iconic Photofinish Foundation Primer, NYX Pore Filler Primer and Colorbar Perfect Match Primer.
3. Choose a Long-Wearing, Matte Foundation:
Skip the dewy and radiance enhancing foundations. If you’re looking for party makeup, then your foundation needs to be oil-free and should clearly be labeled as a long-wearing foundation. Matte formulas are even better in that regard. Here are some recommendations: Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation, Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation and L’oreal Paris Infallible Matte Foundation.
4. Apply the Makeup in Thin Layers:
Another useful trick to get your makeup to last longer is to apply it in very thin layers. You can continue to add extra layers as you need to, but make sure not to apply too much base makeup at once. Building it up slowly promotes a long-lasting finish.
5. Set your Makeup with Loose Powder:
Setting your makeup with powder is a non-negotiable step, if you want to stop your makeup from creasing, melting and fading. It’s best to use a finely milled loose powder for this purpose. Some recommendations for powders that make your skin look great and lock the makeup in place: Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, Palladio Oil Absorbing Rice Powder and NARS Light Reflecting Loose Powder.
6. Stick to Powder Formulas:
You may love that cream blush and cream highlight for the dewy daytime look, but if you’re going for a long-lasting party makeup look, always pick out powder-based products.
7. Carry Blotting Sheets:
Always make sure to carry blotting sheets and some compact powder to keep the excess oil in control and to touch up your makeup as and when required. This will help the makeup last longer.
8. Use a Clay Mask Before Applying Makeup:
Another very useful tip is to apply clay mask a few hours before you need to wear makeup. This helps smooth out the texture of your skin and absorb all the excess oils. Not only will the makeup apply much better after this, but it will also last long through the night.
