How to Make Sugar Scrub Bars at Home

By Soni Mishra

Hey all!

Today, I am here with another DIY project. Read on to know how you can make these amazing sugar scrub bars at home. We all know the goodness of sugar scrub. Taking it a step further, sugar scrub bars are great for body exfoliation. You can use them during shower or whenever you feel you need some me-time. The good thing is that you can make them easily at home with the ingredients of your choice. So, let’s get started and make the best sugar scrub bars or cubes ever! 😛

You Need:

• Mode of heating (Required for melting soap base or soap)

• 1 portion of oil (Coconut oil, Almond oil or whatever your love the most)

• 2 portions of soap base or shredded soap

• 6 portions of granulated sugar (White or brown)

• Moulds for giving shape to your scrub

• Additional ingredient you may add (Essential Oil/Vitamin E Capsules/Coffee/Honey/Food colour etc.)

I made two variants of the sugar scrub bars. First one is simple sugar scrub bar where I have used shredded soap bar and white sugar. Another one is coffee sugar scrub cubes using baby soap gel.

Let’s start with sugar scrub bars:

Step by step instructions are given below with the photographs to make Sugar Scrub Bars:

• In case you are using soap bar, take a knife and shred it into tiny pieces. You may use the grater for the same.

• Next, we need to melt the soap base or shredded soap into the oil. Here I am using Patanjali Almond Oil and Pears soap. For this, we need to warm up the oil a little. There are few techniques we can use for the melting the soap base into oil solution.

• We may heat the same in microwave or oven, keeping oil and soap mixture for 10-15 second at 200 degree Celsius temperature.

• We may use double boiler for warming up the same.

• If you are not comfortable with microwave or double boiler, you may use a wax heater. I have used the same as the temperature is limited here and I need not worry about the oil getting more heated up than required.

This needs to be taken care of since we do wish to melt the sugar in oil mixture. Else, the melted sugar will not serve the purpose for exfoliation.

• If you do not wish to use either of the above three options, just heat a pan on gas stove and remove it to go ahead with rest of the procedure.

• Make sure the shredded soap has melted well into the oil and is in liquid state.

• When it is still warm, add sugar to the mixture and mix well. This should be done quickly so that the mixture is in working condition.

• Add optional ingredients like essential oils or food colour here and mix well. If you would like to have colourful bars, add some food colour. You may add cocoa powder for that lovely, chocolatey colour. I added nothing here.

• Fill the mixture into the mould, level the top surface well to get a uniform surface. You may grease the mould for taking out the bar easily.

• Refrigerate the mould for at least half an hour. Take the bars out of the mould and there you have your very own and useful sugar scrub bar! I don’t think I need to tell you why you all need to have it and use it, as we all are super addicted to IMBB and know the importance of exfoliation.

Here is another variant I made using coffee. I just love the way sugar coffee scrub smell. I have used baby Top to Toe Wash here instead of soap base as it was lying idle at my home. These cubes I have kept for facial exfoliation as these are not very stiff and harsh, if kept out of refrigerator for longer time.

  1. It’s really enchanting DIY Shikha … Lovely Hey can I add shower gel instead of soap… because soap makes my skin harsh….

One more thing can anyone pls tell me how to change the profile pic here… 🙁

    1. Hi Sheetal! Actually if you want a solid bar… Shower gel won’t solidify it much as it remains in liquid state at room temperature. So u need to store them in freezer and take out only at time of using. Where’s if you use soap base or soap bar they easily take the soild state on cooling and can be stored outside. You may use milder soaps like baby soap or pears or dove. Hope this helps

  2. I was actually planning on a sugar scrub and this post came in the right time… Looks easy, tempting, and yummy.. Surely will try the coffee sugar wala. .
