How to Switch to Cruelty-Free Products?

Hi ladies,
In the beauty world, women are getting more and more aware of what goes into their cosmetic products, and which products are safe and which are not. Most of the products that we use today are not exactly cruelty free. Let’s find out what this word means, how it will make a difference, and how you can switch to cruelty-free products?

How to Switch to Cruelty-Free Products

What are cruelty-free brands?
A cruelty-free brand is a brand that doesn’t test on animals at any point during the production of its cosmetics. All the ingredients used in the making of the product and also the final product have not been tested on animals. Cruelty-free brands can be vegan or non-vegan as they may contain animal ingredients in them.

Why make a change?
1. Cruelty-free products are less toxic
The ingredients that are used in cruelty-free products are considered safer than the ones used in normal products. They won’t harm your skin and won’t fill your skin up with harmful toxins and chemicals.

2. They are not tested on animals
facts
Animal testing is an incredibly cruel practice. Animals used in the process are subjected to invasive, painful procedures without any sedation. The testing procedure is so inhumanly that more and more countries are now banning the practice.

3. Cruelty-free products are great for sensitive skin
As there are no harmful chemicals or toxins present in these kinds of products, they suit the sensitive skin really well as compared to other products available in the market.

4. Cruelty-free brushes are way cleaner
Brushes that are made from animal hair harbour a ton of bacteria because of the structure of the hairs. Those hair trap oil and dead skin and breed bacteria while synthetic bristled brushes are way cleaner and way more hygienic than the animal hair brushes.

How to switch to cruelty-free brands?
1. Make it a gradual change
Do not throw anything away in one go. Analyse your vanity, make a list of things and then discard them periodically. Don’t throw all makeup in your vanity at once. Start by one cosmetic at a time and then slowly develop.

2. Don’t forget your essentials
cruelty free toothpaste
Most of the toothpastes, mouth washes and deodorants that we use are tested on animals. So choose very wisely how you can make a change. Resort to organic brands and local Indian brands that are cruelty free, natural and are not tested on animals.

3. Know your bunnies
bunnies
There are only 3 bunny logos that we can trust while looking for cruelty free brands. These bunnies are Leaping Bunny logo, PETA’s cruelty-free logo, and the Choose Cruelty-Free logo. Many companies use a bunny’s picture as a logo to mislead customers. Don’t be fooled by them.

4. Know which brands are cruelty-free
This is very important. Do your research and find out which products are actually cruelty free and which are not.
Here are a few brands available that are cruelty free:
• BARE ESSENTIALS
• ELF
• NYX
• PHYSICIANS FORMULA
• NARS
• THE BALM
• URBAN DECAY
• TOO FACED
• TARTE
• SONIA KASHUK
• JORDANA
• BH COSMETICS
• LIME CRIME
• THE NATURE’S CO.
And there are more…

  1. Very informative post, especially the bunny part. I was not aware of that. I would like to add that Nars does not test on animals, but some of their ingredients do contain animal derivatives & they also make brushes out of animal hair. Does that make them a cruelty-free brand or not ?
