Your smile is worth a million dollars! Beautiful and healthy lips can enhances your smile. Usage of lip cosmetics, exposure to UV rays, pollutants from atmosphere and water can damage your lips. Regular use of dark lip colours may result in making your lips dark and discoloured. Lack of vitamins in your body and skin ageing is an another main reason for damaged, pigmented and patchy lips. I have sensitive and pigmented lips which tend to dry and become patchy easily. I buy so many lip balms and lip care products to get rid of these issues, which do work. But then somehow, I again land up with dry and patchy lips. I decided to try some natural home remedies for myself. I came across these natural lip care remedies, which are very simple and can be done at home. They does not harm your lips in any way. Do read on for tips on how to take care of your lips at home!

How To Take Care of Your Lips at Home

1. Water:

Drink lots of water, it is the best remedy for your skin and body. You should drink, at least ten glasses of water daily. Water keeps your skin hydrated and prevents your lips from dehydrating and becoming dry or patchy. You can also intake fruit juices, which are healthy and have lots of vitamins.

2. Aloe Vera Gel:

Aloe Vera gel has soothing and cooling properties. If your lips are damaged from exposure to UV rays and other pollutants, you can apply aloe vera gel on your lips and leave it on for a few minutes. It heals your dry and damaged lips. You can do this once in a week. However, if your lips are extremely dry and patchy, you can increase it to thrice a week. Try this remedy especially during winters as it helps in protecting your lips from drying and chapping.

3. Olive Oil:

Olive oil is an another natural ingredient you can use to take care of your lips at home. It is rich in nutrients and it is a natural moisturiser. It helps to lighten, soften and makes your lips healthy. Mildly massage olive oil on your lips on daily basis. You can do this at bedtime, so all the repairing and caring is done while you are resting. Results are amazing, imparts soft, vibrant and fresh look to your lips. If you want to exfoliate your lips, mix half teaspoon of brown sugar and a few drops of olive oil. Apply it on your lips and this mixture will gently exfoliate your lips. You can do this once a week or maximum to twice a week. It helps eradicate damaged, dry and dead skin cells. Lips feel soft supple and smooth.

4. Honey:

Honey is the best home remedy for lip care. Being antibacterial in nature, it protects your lips and makes them soft and supple. You can apply honey on your lips and leave it over night. After cleansing your lips next morning, you will notice that your lips are soft, supple and smooth. It removes dead skin cells, unclogs pores and cleanses them. It has vitamin C, which stops skin peeling. It is antiseptic and antibacterial in nature and it kills bacterial infections associated with dryness. You can rub your lips with a soft cotton ball immersed in honey. Doing this daily, will give you pink lips. Honey has natural humectant for skin and helps lighten the dark patches on your lips.

5. Almond Oil:

Almond oil can be used at home to treat your lips naturally. It is hydrating and moisturising in nature that it protects your lips from drying and becoming patchy. Especially during winters from the cold and dry weather. Apply it daily at night before bedtime. You can use almond oil by itself or use it as a base to prepare lip care remedies. You can mix almond oil with coconut oil for enhanced benefits and apply it on your lips. If you happen to have pigmented lips, you can mix almond oil with castor oil. It helps to lighten your lips and reduce the visibility of fine lines on your lips. If your lips are extremely dry and patchy, mix one tablespoon of honey with six drops of almond oil and coat your lips with this solution. It will soften, lighten and smoothen your lips.

6. Brown Sugar (Unrefined Sugar):

Brown sugar is a very common home remedy for lip care. I am sure many of you may have tried this. It is mainly used to exfoliate dry lips naturally. Scrubbing your lips with sugar reveals the hidden skin, making your lips look younger. Mix some sugar with cold cream and rub your lips with this paste for a few seconds. You can do this, once or twice a week. It will keep your lips soft, supple and smooth. You can also make a scrub by mixing two tablespoons of butter with three tablespoons of sugar. Exfoliate your lips gently with this mixture. It helps to restore the natural color of your lips, making them soft and smooth.

7. Beetroot:

Beetroot is a beautiful root which aids in lightening the dark skin on your lips and making them pink and rosy. This remedy is for you, if your lips are dark. Beetroot is said to have bleaching and moisturising properties. After using beetroot on your lips, the rosy colour will stay on your lips for hours. For this, massage your lips with fresh beetroot juice for a few minutes on regular basis. Within a couple of weeks, you will notice that your lips will have a rosy pink colour. You can also mix an equal amount of beetroot juice and carrot juice. Rub this mixture on your lips and leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water.

8. Berries:

It’s a known fact that berries are rich in essential vitamins and minerals essential for your skin health. Strawberries and raspberries are two powerful berries, which can be used to make your lips naturally healthy, supple and fuller. If your lips are dark, you can use berries to lighten the darkness. It helps minimize the signs of ageing skin. Makes your lips look younger and supple. If you have dry and chapped lips, you can prepare a lip balm at home. Mix two tablespoons of petroleum jelly with one tablespoon of strawberry paste. Applying this balm on your lips twice daily will definitely help. If you want to exfoliate your lips, make a scrub. Add some honey, aloe vera gel, half tablespoon of raspberry juice and mix it well. Use this mixture to mildly scrub your lips. Leave the mixture on your lips for a few minutes, before washing with lukewarm water. You can use this scrub once or twice a week as required.

9. Pomegranate:

Pomegranate is an another ideal remedy, which can be incorporated for daily lip care. It has skin caring properties and it not only keeps your lips hydrated, but also adds a rosy tint to your lips. Helps restore your lips, adds a natural pink tint and makes your lips soft by nourishing. If your lips are pigmented ot has dark patches or wrinkles, take some carrot juice, pomegranate juice, beetroot juice in equal proportions and mix it well. Apply this mixture on your lips. It will not only reduce dark spots and patches, but also reduce wrinkles and visibility of fine lines on your lips. Provides hydration and deeply nourishes, making them appear fuller and plumper. If you want to scrub your lips on daily basis, take one tablespoon of mashed pomegranate seeds, rose water and milk cream and mix thoroughly. Scrub your lips with this mixture once a day and then rinse with lukewarm water.

10. Cucumber:

Cucumber is claimed as a wonderful skin lightening natural remedy. It helps to restore the skin of your lips making it bright. Rubbing your lips with a slice of cucumber for three minutes daily is helpful. Your skin will suck the juice from the cucumber, which not only moisturises your lips but also brightens your lip skin. Cucumber is also said to soothe sunburned lips and give a cooling and calming effect to your lips.
