How To Use Your Shampoo In Different Ways
I have this habit/penchant or obsession (or whatever you may call it) of stocking up/hoarding products like shampoos, shower gels, body lotions as I don’t experiment much with my skin care products. My father would always shout on me that our bathroom shelf looks more like a “naai ki dukaan” (counter at the salon). But, I am sure that I am not the only one who is high on hoarding; there are a lot of people who love to buy products like shampoos randomly. With time, I did pull the strings on this habit of mine, like now, if I have to try a new brand/product, I purchase a smaller-sized bottle first and if it suits me well, I would go ahead and buy a full/big sized pack. But still, there are times, I am left with a few shampoo bottles which fail to impress me/cause hair fall and it’s hard to just toss them away.
So, presenting here a list of ways with which you can put your otherwise vain shampoo to use other than your hair:
1. Washing:
I use shampoos for washing my delicate clothes when I run out of liquid detergents (like Ezee) and it does a good job. I have also seen shampoos working well on tough stains, like you can just apply some undiluted shampoo directly on the stain and wash it off later on. I also wash my daughter’s stuffed toys at home and I use shampoos for that.
2. As a Hand Wash:
Shampoo works pretty well as a hand wash, I just fill the empty hand wash bottle with 1/4th amount of antiseptic like Savlon/Dettol and fill the rest with some shampoo which lathers well. It makes for a nice hand wash and that too anti bacterial.
3. Hand/Foot Soak:
Now, this is not something new, I am sure a lot of people use shampoos in pedicures or manicures. I add some fragrant oil/bath salt +shampoo to a tub of water and often create a foot/hand soak at home this way. In the same manner, it can also be used as a bubble bath.
4. Clean brushes and combs:
I wash my makeup brushes in a mild/baby shampoo and it works pretty fine without harming the brushes. For hygiene purpose, I wash my hair comb/hair brush every week and I use a water+shampoo solution for that.
5. Cleaning:
Shampoo can be diluted with some water and used for cleaning things like glass tables, mirrors, houseplants, delicate show pieces, crockery, rugs, carpets, refrigerators, microwaves or just about anything you can think of.
6. Shaving:
One can also use a shampoo (preferably the one with conditioner) for shaving. I have tried it many times before/when I shave my hands and it does work well.
So, these were the ways I try to utilize my abandoned bottles of shampoo. If you are like me and you do end up buying a shampoo just to find out how you hate it, you can now put it to at least some use instead of just discarding it. Also, I would love to know if you can think of any other uses apart from the ones listed above.
