My Experience with Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation:
I did a first impressions of the Huda Beauty Foundation HERE.
I have been using this foundation pretty much every day this past week so I could review it ASAP. I picked up the shade Brown Sugar. It is 3-4 shades darker than my skin tone. But I don’t regret picking up the color because the golden undertone of it is absolutely gorgeous and adds a nice undertone when I mix it with my existing foundations. That said, it is a full coverage foundation so it is imperative that you pick the closest match to your skin tone or else it won’t work for you just on its own.
It’s quite a thick creamy foundation but spreads easily. It does dry quickly so you have to work fast with it. It does not look cakey at all. It makes your skin look flawless and photographs amazingly even with the flash. It’s like a nice skin-color mask for your skin and it does create that ‘faux filter’ kind of look on your skin. Your skin does not show from underneath. Even in real life, it makes your skin look flawless. It is not a completely invisible foundation but if you get a dead-on shade match for your skin, you can get away looking pretty flawless “naturally”. 😀
It is an extremely long lasting foundation. I have worn it for good 8-9 hours and it has stayed without fading. I have normal to dry skin and most foundations do last pretty long on my skin generally as well and this one did not fail at all. There have been no dry patches or fading or splitting. No settling in fine lines either. It has stayed and stayed beautifully throughout. I did use a setting powder but that I do with all my foundations.
I love the gorgeous square packaging. It comes with a pump. The bottle has a plastic(y) interior, makes for an easy travel companion.
The finish is semi-matte. It would work well for all skin types even for those with oily skin.
I love that it comes in 30 shades covering a vast range of skin tones and undertones.
It never broke me out.
Now the biggest con. this foundation is heavily scented and not like a mildly fragranced…it is SCENTED. And, I absolutely don’t like it! I do everything to make my foundation go quickly on my skin so that the fragrance settles down, but it does not. The strong floral fragrance of the foundation lingers on for good hour or so. It becomes bearable once you are done doing the foundation routine and other products come in play. The scent ruined this foundation for me and the same scent is present in their primer too. It’s hard to layer on the foundation with a primer underneath because then the fragrance becomes too strong. This could especially be a huge concern for makeup artists because they’d be using the product on others. Not everyone is going to appreciate the fragrance.
I loved this foundation more than my favourite Marc Jacobs Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate in terms of a full coverage foundation. This settles on the skin better than the Marc Jacobs foundation but I’d say both are equally gorgeous.
Overall, I feel it’s a great foundation barring the scent. It holds true to the Huda Beauty aesthetic. If you are used to of using lightweight medium coverage foundations, don’t go for it because this foundation is not that everyday sheer luminous kind of foundation. Excellent for brides-to-be, for wearing to the parties where you might have to take pictures and, of course, for bloggers. It’s even great for people who want coverage for their scars without using a lot of product.
I would only repurchase this foundation if they get rid of the scent; otherwise, it’s a pass for me. If you are looking for a medium to full coverage foundation and the scent does not bother you, definitely go for it. It is one of the nicest photographed foundation I have in my collection.
