Hugo Boss Orange Sunset Eau de Toilette Review

Hope each one of you out there is having an amazing weekend 🙂 My Sunday would be super busy with penning down of my pending reviews 🙂 Starting it all with a review of the perfume from Hugo Boss that I had picked up earlier in the month.  To be honest, at the store, I had fallen in love with how the bottle of Hugo Boss Orange Sunset looked and then when I heard that it belonged to the fruity category, I had no second thoughts, like seriously!

My Take on Hugo Boss Orange Sunset Eau de Toilette:

As I had mentioned previously, the bottle that this EDT comes in is super attractive with an ombre effect that replicates the colors of sunset.  The bottle has beautifully captured the warm orange hues of the sunset ranging from the lightest to the brightest orange.

I have an issue with the cap though, it does not stay put and comes off every so often, hence the packaging is not travel friendly. Boss Orange Sunset has been around since 2010 and you can easily find it online as well as in major stores across the country, so availability is not an issue at all.  It’s basically marketed as a summer fragrance.

Coming to what I think about the scent, I find that it is all about some citrus notes layered with some sharp spiciness.  The fruity notes are not sweet or saccharine, all the notes are covered with a powdery spicy finish. It’s not a crisp or clean scent, it’s more of diffused scent that I would not term as summer appropriate.

When you spray it initially, quite naturally, you smell alcohol.  Once that settles down, you can feel a blend of mandarin orange, bergamot, and vanilla layered with spicy notes.  These notes are pretty much constant through the wear time except for the sharpness of bergamot.  I can hardly detect the middle notes of white flowers or rose. The rose note is a complete no-show. I feel there’s no proper segregation of the notes.  The vanilla note is also spiced up, but towards the end of the wear, it becomes bland.

After 3 hours, there’s not much of the scent left and if you wanna smell like you had 3 hours before, you would have to re-spritz.  The staying power is very low and even if I go for 4 spritzes at one go, the maximum I get is around 3-1/2 hours, not more than that. The silage is pretty low, that’s another major con.

The fragrance does not last very long, hardly 2 or 3 hours, and that’s a big bummer! It’s not a loud scent and people would not be able to predict your arrival into a room when you are wearing this scent.  It just stays close to you without moving out or around much. It’s not a mystical or seductive dark fragrance – it’s something that you can wear during the day time.

It’s a warm fragrance.  It’s not a refreshing scent, so once it dies down, I do not go for a re spritz. Personally, for summers, I like refreshing and clean fragrances, not something that has spicy notes, hence it’s not for me.  I would have preferred a sweet Satsuma type fragrance (I can’t get over TBS Satsuma body polish :P) for summers.

Summing up, I feel this scent is all about citrus notes layered with spices. It’s not an outstanding scent and definitely not a must-have, and I don’t see it becoming anyone’s signature scent.  It won’t appeal to teenagers either because it’s not a sweet scent. It’s a kind of fragrance that your mommy dearest would love to keep in her collection and use sparingly 😛 It’s not a “pick-me-up” scent that would instantly perk me up.  It’s just an average perfume, something that I wouldn’t go for a second time.

Gucci Envy Me and this one go down as my least favorite fragrances 😛

Pros of Hugo Boss Orange Sunset Eau de Toilette:

• Attractive ombre effect packaging.
• Warm fragrance.
• Available easily online and in stores.

Cons of Hugo Boss Orange Sunset Eau de Toilette:

• Not a very appealing fragrance, it’s neither a clean nor a crisp scent.
• Not refreshing, I would like something that perks me up on hot summery days.
• Low sillage.
• Extremely low staying power, around 3 hours.
• Some of the notes do not show up at all during the wear time.
• I don’t see it becoming anyone’s signature fragrance.
• Average scent.

Would I Repurchase Hugo Boss Orange Sunset Eau de Toilette?
Nope!

Would I Recommend Hugo Boss Orange Sunset Eau de Toilette?
No, not at all.  If you like clean and refreshing fragrances, this one is not for you.
