Illamasqua recently launched its “Human Fundamentalism Range” for spring-summer 2012. Human Fundamentalism is an explosion of your alter ego. It’s becoming who you are and not who you’re told to be. Beauty isn’t conformity, but the fundamental human desire to express your inner self on the outside. To rise above mainstream limitations and exist in a world where individuality is received with celebration not derision, and breaking the mould is a sign of strength not instability.
We stand for freedom of expression, embracing our glorious imperfections and showing the world we’re not ordinary but extraordinary, even if society refuses to accept it. We’re beyond conformity. Beyond control. Beyond hiding who we really are. We are not a religion, but the singular opposite. We are Illamasqua.
“Human Fundamentalism is the unique spirit and fundamental human drive for individuality. It’s a belief, a movement and an emotion. A connection with the spirit of the age and its global motifs. You are your own human hybrid, a unique nomad of street cultures and global trends.” — Alex Box, Illamasqua Creative Director.
Get ready for a startling celebration of humanity’s connection with colour. Introducing the Human Fundamentalism collection, where blinding flashes of pigment provide a sharp contrast to neutral tones, creating a saturated palette that catapults your alter ego to new levels of self-expression. Mix contrasting textures to express your true self, spiraling from rich metallic to pale matte shades. This is nonconformity at its most fundamental. At its unpredictable best.

I am reviewing three powder eye shadows today from this range, which are “Pivot, Burst and Obsidian.”
Each of these glorious colours makes a statement that is as individual as you are. Highly pigmented, prepare
for an intensity that’s not just colour-true but extremely long-lasting. Experiment and be bold.
Use a long bristle brush for blending and a shorter bristle brush for precise colour placement. Mix Powder Eye Shadow with Sealing Gel for colour-intensification, and apply with an Angled Eye Liner Brush for unlimited eye liner opportunities. They can also double up as blushers or contours, whilst shimmer textures can be used as a highlighter on the eyes, face and body.
There are 6 shades launched in this range:
- Obsidian Rich black.
£15.50 price per 10g £77.50.
2g 0.07 OZ.
These eye shadow singles come in a chic, glossy black, sturdy, plastic casing which holds the square eye shadow pan and with a see-through lid. It does not come with a mirror or applicator.
Illamasqua Describes the shade as yellow green. I would call it a beautiful “lime-fluorescent green.” It reminds me a lot about the highlighting pen I would use in school 😛
Some of you may find the colour not so wearable, but I think it is great for spring—summer.
Burst – Blue Green:
I find it a mix of teal and turquoise blue. Gorgeous is the word! This is my personal favourite out of three I have. Very wearable! Totally love it!
Obsidian- Rich Black:
I think Illamasqua has described it well; it’s a rich/dark black. I was looking for a black matte eye shadow and this black beauty came in, just at the right time. Even though it is not the blackest black, it works well for me as I use a black eye shadow mostly at the counter corner of my eyes. These also fit the bill for smokey eye makeup too.
Texture and Pigmentation:
These powder eye shadows are surprisingly very soft, despite being absolutely matte. The matte formula fares well, even more than my expectation, but I find these can get a little hard to blend, so you may need to pat-press-pack these on the eyelids to make these work for you.
These are fairly pigmented (not superbly/intensely pigmented though) and have negligible amount of fall out. With a primer, however, the pigmentation can be improved and these can also be built upon easily.
What I Like about Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Collection – Powder Eye Shadows:
- Soft, smooth texture.
- Completely matte.
- Fairly pigmented.
- Almost nil fall out.
- Good staying power.
- These don’t crease a lot even without a primer.
- Can be built upon.
- You get a lot of product in one pan.
- Pretty packaging.
What I Do Not Like about Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Collection – Powder Eye Shadows:
- These are a little difficult to blend.
- Not available in India, you need to order these from the Illamasqua website to get these here.
