  28. Am entering anyway……I need to win..I have Indian passport..I win gift..send to India…(but US is easier..just telling 😛 :P)

If you are in Bangalore, get up early morning and go for a walk. See the empty roads and smell the fresh air before the crazy traffic starts. We still have some trees around, and depending on the seasons, enjoy the cool breeze and the smell of the flowers – bright yellow and pink that line the roads sides as they dry and fall down there. The sweepers won’t turn up either till the crazy traffic starts, so it’s all peaceful and undisturbed.

Then, walk to the nearest “standing saagar” – the numerous small restaurants that open early morning and sell yummy ghee dosas and steaming cups of hot South Indian filter coffee. Then, run home and sleep. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Place I would like to go to: Europe.

  39. For a traveller to my city, Cochin, I would recommend the old quarter, Fort Cochin, which sits right at the edge of the harbour, near the sea. Walk along the beach and watch the ancient Chinese fishing nets still work their magic. Spend a while in the centuries’ old St.Francis Church, where Vasco da gama was buried before his remains were sent back to Portugal. Stroll down its quaint lanes that bear such names as Princess Street and Burgher Street, a symbol of the area’s mixed Dutch, Portuguese and British heritage. Stop in one of the many cafes that serve awesome home-made cheesecake and tea/coffee (recommendations being Kashi Art Cafe and the Teapot Cafe). Otherwise drive to the old Jewish quarter in Mattancherry and visit the pristine 17 century synagogue. Anywhere in Cochin is a great place to try local seafood delicacies.

    1. Shai Kochi is one of my fave places too!!!
Love Jew town and Kashi Art Cafe…..and those sewing machines they converted into tables…..sooopppeeer cute :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

  40. Like Rati, I too would like to go to Europe…and I have fantasised about it so much that I have a detailed list of things I want to do.

    – Sitting in a streetside cafe in Paris and watching life walk by
    – Walking through the impossibly green Irish countryside and ending the day with a pint of guinness in a pub, while a jig plays in the background
    – Walking through the little cobbled streets in any European city
    – Staying up the night in Scandinavian summers
    – Visiting the Anne Frank Museum, the Van Gogh museum and a whole bunch of art galleries

  51. Here is my entry,
I live in Delhi and it has its own blend of culture and history with i think people all across india and world too.
Delhi, locally pronounced as Dilli officially National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), is the largest metropolis by area and the second-largest city by population in India. It is the eighth largest metropolis in the world by population.
Its eponym is Dhillu or Dilu, a king of the Mauryan dynasty, who built the city in 50 BC and named it after himself.
Quite a no. of different rulers from different dynasties ruled and gave an exeptionally fine architectural to this city.
Delhi has humid subtropical climate. Summers are long and extremely hot, from early April to mid-October, with the monsoon season in between, mild winter starts in late November and peaks in January and is notorious for its heavy fog.

Famous for its mixture of historic landmarks, monuments, temples and stylish Art Deco style buildings, the city of New Delhi is filled with interest. Amongst the most notable landmarks within New Delhi are the India Gate, the Lotus Temple (Bahai Temple) and also the President House (Rashtrapati Bhavan). No trip to New Delhi is complete without a photo or two of its famous Red Fort (Lal Qila), which features a stunning red facade and evening light shows. Just across from the Red Fort is the Raj Ghat, an official memorial to India’s spiritual leader, Mahatma Gandhi.

Public transport in Delhi is provided by buses, auto rickshaws and a metro rail system.
Buses are the most popular means of transport catering to about 60% of the total demand.
Many ethnic groups and cultures are represented in Delhi, making it a cosmopolitan city. Being the political and economic hub of northern India, the city attracts workers – both blue collar and white collar – from all parts of India, further enhancing its diverse character. A diplomatic hub, home to the embassies of 160 countries, Delhi has a large expatriate population as well.
As far Education is concerned india is considered 2nd best country and Delhi seems to have most strong Eduction institution. Which includes Delhi University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), National Law University, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Jamia Hamdard, and nine deemed universities. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and National Law University are the only state universities; IGNOU is for open/distance learning; the rest are all central universities. Delhi boasts of being home to 3 of top 10 engineering colleges in India – IIT Delhi, NSIT (Formerly DIT) and DTU (Formerly DCE).

New Delhi is the focus of political reportage, including regular television broadcasts of Parliament sessions, being Capital of India. Many country-wide media agencies, among them the state-owned Press Trust of India, Media Trust Of India and Doordarshan, are based in the city.
Cricket and soccer are the most popular sports in Delhi. There are several cricket grounds located across the city. The Feroz Shah Kotla stadium is one of the oldest cricket grounds in India and is a venue for international cricket matches.
Here are the list of Attractions in the City:
1 Rashtrapati Bhawan – Built with a mix of Western and Indian styles, Rashtrapati Bhavan was originally built for the Governor General of India. Inaugurated in 1931 as the Viceregal Lodge, the name was changed in 1959 after India became a republic. Now it is the Presidential Palace of India.

2 India Gate and Rajpath- India Gate is a memorial raised in honour of the Indian soldiers who died during the Afghan wars and World War I. The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on the walls. Millions visit this Gurdwara from all over the world and of all religions to offer their prayers at this elegant yet historical Gurdwara in Delhi. This is not just a sacred Sikh shrine, but also very important to many Hindus.

6 Humayun’s Tomb – Humayun’s Tomb was built for Humayun’s widow, Hamida Banu Begum. Designed by a Persian architect named Mirak Mirza Ghiyas, the structure was begun in 1562 and completed in 1565. The tomb established a standard for all later Mughal monuments, which followed its design, most notably the Taj Mahal.

7 Qutub Minar – The Qutub Minar is located in a Mehrauli in South Delhi. It was built by Qutb-ud-din Aibak of the Slave Dynasty, who took possession of Delhi in 1206. It is a fluted red sandstone tower, which tapers up to a height of 72.5 metres and is covered with intricate carvings and verses from the Qur’an. Qutub-ud-din Aybak began constructing this victory tower as a sign of Muslim domination of Delhi and as a minaret for the muezzin to call the faithful to prayer.
The Qutub Minar is also significant for what it represents in the history of Indian culture. In many ways, the Qutub Minar, the first monument built by a Muslim ruler in India, heralded the beginning of a new style of art and architecture that came to be known as the Indo-Islamic style. Other monuments around the Qutb complex, are Jamaali Kamaali mosque and tombs, Balban’s tomb and Adham Khan’s Tomb.

8 Red Fort – The decision for constructing the Red Fort was made in 1639, when Shah Jahan decided to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi. Within eight years, Shahjahanabad was completed with the Red Fort-Qila-i-Mubarak (fortunate citadel) — Delhi’s seventh fort — ready in all its magnificence[citation needed] to receive the Emperor. Though much has changed with the large-scale demolitions during the British occupation of the fort, its important structures have survived. On every republic day the flag of India is hosted by the president.

9 Salimgarh Fort – Salimgarh Fort, which is now part of the Red Fort complex, was constructed on an island of the Yamuna River in 1546. But a gate called the Bahadur Shahi Gate for entry into the Fort from the northern side was constructed only in 1854-55 by Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mogul ruler of India. The fort has been renamed as Swatantrata Senani Smarak and a plaque at the entrance to the fort attests to this.

10 Chandni Chowk – Chandni Chowk, a main marketplace in Delhi, keeps alive the city’s living legacy of Shahjahanabad. Created by Shah Jahan the builder of Taj Mahal, the old city, with the Red Fort as its focal point and Jama Masjid as the praying centre, has a fascinating market called Chandni Chowk. Legend has it that Shah Jahan planned Chandni Chowk so that his daughter could shop for all that she wanted. The market was divided by canals. The canals are now closed, but Chandni Chowk remains Asia’s largest wholesale market.
11 Cathedral Church of Redemption – Cathedral Church of Redemption also known as Viceroy Church. Located east of Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was used by then viceroy of British India.
The Church derives its name from Palladio’s Church of Il Redentore in Veniceas well as Lutyens St Jude’s Church, Hampstead Garden Suburb.
The Cathedral was built in eight years and was completed in the year 1935. Cathedral was designed by Henry Medd. Cathedral was built in such a manner that even in the extreme summers it remains cool and serene.

12 Jama Masjid – The Masjid-i-Jahan Numa, commonly known as Jama Masjid, is the principal mosque of Old Delhi. Commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and completed in the year 1656, it is one of the largest and best known mosques in India.

16 Purana Quila – The Purana Quila (Old Fort) is a good example of medieval military architecture.[1] Built by Pandavas, renovated by Humayun, with later modifications by Sher Shah Suri, the Purana Quila is a monument of bold design, which is strong, straightforward, and every inch a fortress. It is different from the well-planned, carefully decorated, and palatial forts of the later Mughal rulers. Purana Quila is also different from the later forts of the Mughals, as it does not have a complex of palaces, administrative, and recreational buildings as is generally found in the forts built later on. The main purpose of this now dilapidated fort was its utility with less emphasis on decoration. The Qal’a-I-Kunha Masjid and the Sher are two important monuments inside the fort. It was made by Aqeel in 1853.

17 Tughlaqabad – Tughlaqabad is Delhi’s most colossal and awesome fort even in its ruined state. Within its sky-touching walls, double-storied bastions, and gigantic towers were housed grand palaces, splendid mosques, and audience halls.

20 Lodhi Gardens – The Lodhi Gardens is a park spread over 90 acres (360,000 m2). It contains architectural works of the 15th century Sayyid and Lodhis, a Pathan dynasty which ruled much of Northern India during the 16th century.

21 Nizamuddin Dargah – Nizamuddin Dargah is the Mausoleum of the famous Sufi Saint Nizamuddin Auliya, Delhi.

22 Sansad Bhavan -Sansad Bhavan or the Parliament of India is a circular building designed by the British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker in 1912–1913. Construction began in 1921, and in 1927 the building was opened as the home of the Council of State, the Central Legislative Assembly, and the Chamber of Princes.

23 National Museum, New Delhi -The National Museum, New Delhi is the largest museum in India. It holds variety of articles ranging from pre-historic era to modern works of art. It is run by the Ministry of Culture, part of the Government of India. The museum is situated on the corner of Janpath and Maulana Azad Road.

24 St. James’ Church -St. James’ Church is one of the oldest churches in India.

25 Connaught Place – Connaught Place is one of the largest financial, commercial and business centers in Delhi. It is often abbreviated as CP and houses the headquarters of several Indian firms. Its surroundings occupy a place of pride amongst the heritage structures of the city. It was developed as a showpiece of Lutyens’ Delhi featuring a Central Business District. Named after the Duke of Connaught, the construction work was started in 1929 and completed in 1933. It was renamed as the Rajiv Chowk after the late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The Connaught Place of today is one of the most vibrant business districts of Delhi.

    1) A place which everybody has missed to visit from Delhi is ‘Hauz Khas Fort’. The fort looks mesmerizing during sunset and sunrise. The fort overlooks a wide pond which is home to many birds and various sorts of flowers and lush greenery!! It takes you to another era.

    2) Lotus Temple for its remarkable architectures of Bahai faith. It is located at Kalkaji in New Delhi. The temple looks like a lotus flower and is made of marble, cement, dolomite and sand.

    3) Trip to Chandni Chowk by Metro (no doubt), for its true blue street food, wholesale market, jama masjid and Kareem’s (non-veg food). Jeweler shops at Dariba Kalan are famous for intricate jewelry!!!

    4) Akshardham Mandir – The main structure has been embroidered with 20, 000 statues, floral motifs, arches and exquisitely carved pillars. It is estimated that, the temple has been built at the cost of nearly 100 million Dollars. It includes Musical fountain, Boat ride and Garden of India. Among others, the complex boasts off an IMAX theatre, a food court, a gallery and an open-air theatre. In the night, the magnificent campus is lit with tungsten bulbs and looks stunning. 5) For shopping, Delhi has a very famous Sarojini Nagar Market, Khan Market, Connaught Place, Janpath among others on a Must-see list.

    6) Great India Place Mall in Noida is a superb Mall with all major International brands all under one roof!!

    7) Dont miss Chattarpur mandir in Nehru Place, delhi. The spectacular temple complex is an architectural gem in itself. All the shrines in the complex are built from white marble. The main shrine is dedicated to Goddess Durga and exhibits traits of the temple architecture of South India.

    8) Bangla Sahib Gurdwara is situated near Connaught Place Market in New Delhi. It is an important historical and religious place which cant be missed while visiting Delhi.

My city is Hyderabad. I feel our Hyderabad is the friendliest city in India. If you wish to visit our Hyderabad, I recommend you should:

    1) Shop at Lad Bazar, Charminar.
    2) Eat the Hyderabadi Biryani at Hotel Paradise
    3) Celebrate the city’s culture at a Ghazal concert, or for just a peaceful time, at the Chowmahallah Palace.

In the future, I would love to visit New York, USA to experience the chaos of a cosmopolitan city (which is so unlike our peaceful Hyderabad).

  58. My city is Ernakulam(Kochi) in Kerala. If any one coming here i would like to suggest them to have house boat ride in Alleppey (Belive me, it will be one of those memorable moments) . 60. I live in Chennai. It’s been 4 years I am living in chennai. I would like to suggest anyone who’s coming to chennai to visit Marina Beach. It’s the longest beach I think in Asia.
You can see the lovely sea waves hitting the shores and experience the cool waves licking your feet. Also, you can watch people, how they enjoy being on the beach and entertain themselves without bothering about others who is around them.
Another place I would definitely suggest is the Express Avenue Mall in Chennai. It gives you the feel of being in another world compared to the conservative very Indian chennai city. Very happening place with lot of shops for you to window shop or to do some shopping if you really want to. I feel that even a lazy stroll in the mall fills me with energy . Third place I would suggest is Pondy bazar. It’s amazing to see the long array of shops on the street with almost everything you want. They give you good bargain and good quality stuff. Whether you know Tamil or not, it doesn’t matter you can always bargain and get some stuff for a much lesser price.
One place I would like to visit in future is hyderabad. I have heard that it has lot of beautiful old palaces and building to see and lot of shopping destinations which is a paradise for such a shopaholic like me!

  61. Hi……. I reside in Udupi, Coastal Karnataka in South India.

People planning to visit Udupi should make a note of the following:
    – Udupi Krishna Temple : Sanctum of Madhvacharya, the great Sanskrit Philosopher. The famous temple here, has a fascinating idol of Lord Krishna that is richly adorned with jewels.
The main attraction of this temple is the ‘Kanakana Kindi’ -a small window through which Krishna is believed to have given darshan to his ardent devotee, Kanakadasa.
    – Brindavan Garden and Sri Venu Gopalakrishna Temple : The unique architecture of the temple is a combination of openness of landscaped space and religious harmony. Now the centre for religious activity opposite which is the Brindavan Garden and colourfully lit fountains water falls is a haven for children.
    – End Point : The centre of attraction for nature lovers situated just a kilometre away from the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences atop the hill overlooking a valley along which quietly flows the River “Swarna”. This picturesque spot draws hoards of visitors every day along with joggers strollers.
-St. Mary’s Island : St. Mary’s Island are a group of small islands lying a little to the north of the port of Malpe 7 kms form Udupi. Vasco-da-Gama landed in 1498 on one of these islands which he called `EI Padron de Santa Maria’. It is from this that these islands got their present name. They are just a few scattered projections of rock rising out of the western or Arabian Sea around Malpe.
-Malpe Beach: Malpe town is about four kms. to the west of Udupi. It is the most important port of the Karnataka coast and is situated at the mouth of the Malpe or Udyavara river. An ideal picnic spot with its virgin beach. The endless stretch of golden sand, graciously swaying palm trees, the clear blue sky, gurgle of the sea… all set the perfect mood for the unforgettable holiday here.

    Welcome all…..!!!!
