Inglot Slim Gel Lipstick #59 Review and Swatches

Give me five minutes of spare time and you can find me trotting to my laptop and browsing through an endless list of online shopping sites, much to the dismay of my family.  They say I have an unhealthy obsession with the internet (read shopping for makeup on the net).  On one particular day, plagued by a lack of ideas to pass time, I decided to visit an online shoppping website (bad idea for the pocket that is!!!), which houses a few-high street brands as well as Inglot.

I was super duper happy after browsing through the variety of Inglot products they housed and immediately decided to order 2 lipsticks to have a taste of the site’s experience.  I was DUMB enough to trust their swatches, no I didn’t even care to Google the shades I selected, pretty shocking I know, but that was more than a year ago and I have come a long way after that one incident.

So, I happily added a “cream lipstick” and a “slim gel lipstick” to my cart to take the order total to 1000, they offer free shipping only on orders above INR 1000 *rolls eyes*.  I then heaved a sigh of relief for the slightly lighter pockets and waited for the order to arrive. I must say that I was not impressed with their shipping time, delivery in Mumbai took 4-5 days.

One fine evening, when I came back from office, I found the package from that online shopping site on my dressing table. Without even washing/changing, I excitedly grabbed the packet, tore it open to have a peek at my precious Inglot and bam, SHOCKER!!!!! The lipsticks were far too loud for my taste and they had no resemblance whatsoever with the swatches on the site. Luckily for them I had lots of empty storage space and just chose to forget them for the time being.

Fast-forward to spring 2012 and with the overdose of orange/fuchsia trends all around me, I decided to rummage through my lipstick collection and there it was, the Inglot Slim Gel No. 59 patiently waiting to be re-discovered!!! The colour #59 is a bright fuchsia which would look great on all skin tones, intimidating in the tube as well as on the lips if you are not into brights. This time around, I was the lucky one, I am not scared of bright lipsticks anymore, but since Inglot lipsticks are highly pigmented, I tried the lipstick as a stain first. Needless to say, I quite liked the effect and the very next day, I wore the colour full onto the office (I was wearing a fuchsia kurti with golden yellow+coppery gold detailing paired with a white patiala).  The transformation was unbelievable, one moment I was this girl-next-door and with one swipe of the lipstick, I looked so Bollywood diva-esque!!!

Inglot Slim Gel lipsticks in general are very soft and intensely pigmented.  The texture is a bit sticky and intense colour is transferred to the lips in a single swipe itself.  I apply these to the middle of my lips first and then blend outward with my fingers.  This way you can build up the colour and also it ensures that the pigment is spread evenly on the lips.  I find that these Slim Gels work great on pigmented lips.  They look great even when worn as a stain over lip balm.  Always make sure that your lips are properly exfoliated and smooth, otherwise the colour tends to stick to the dry bits more and accentuate them. On my lips, they stay for 5 to 6 hours easily with light meals/drinks in between and they fade evenly, leaving behind a pretty tint.  So, even if you are the absent-minded type or too busy to do touch-ups, these lipsticks ensure that your lips are coloured pretty and full of life throughout the day. The slim gel formula is supposed to be moisturising, but I did not notice the No. 59 living up to the claim, neither did I find them drying.

Like I mentioned earlier, these gel lipsticks are very soft and so prone to breakage. I made the mistake of fully swivelling up the tube the very first time I used it. When I pressed it to the lips, just like how I normally apply other lipsticks, the result was uncalled for and my brand new lipstick just broke into two, I have included close ups of the damage, just so that you guys will understand how fragile these are. Lesson learnt, handle these babies carefully!!They come in a slender black casing and the cap locks snugly, so you don’t have to be afraid of it coming off; however, much you toss the lipstick around in your vanity. I love the practical and sturdy packaging, although you would find it difficult to distinguish shades if you have more than one of these.

Inglot Slim Gel Lipsticks retail at INR 680 for 1.8 gm.  They are paraben free and neither are they tested on animals.

Will I Repurchase Inglot Slim Gel Lipstick #59?

I might if I like any shades at the store, no more online shopping for these. Give these a shot if you are on the lookout for cruelty-free makeup and you don’t mind the initial tugging or the artificial scent which fades soon enough.  Also, with the variety of shades that Inglot stocks, I am pretty sure that there is a slim gel for everyone!
