I suppose you all must be thoroughly bored of me reviewing only sunscreens one after the other. Well, as I have said repeatedly, sunscreen is my most favored skin care and anti-aging product. So, now you must be wondering…. What is so different here? It is just another sunscreen, isn’t it?? Well, that’s where this product differs from all the other sunscreen products. This product is a “SUNSCREEN…. BUT WITH NO SPF or PA/ UVA/ UVB PROTECTION”. Yes, what you are reading is the actual truth. You may ask how that is possible? Well, read on to learn more.

My experience with Institut Esthederm Photo Reverse Hyperpigmented Skin Sunscreen:

If you have been thoroughly confused by the claims of the products’ I will now make it simpler for you. InstitutEsthederm is a French Brand , which began in 1970’s; and regularly does more research work to provide a very different approach towards Sun Protection. When we think about sun protection, it is usually in terms of the strength or degree of the shield which we are applying onto our skin to help as a barrier against sun rays. That barrier is termed as SPF- SUN PROTECTION FACTOR…. Which in India should be at least 30 and above. Additionally, most sunscreen also give protection against UV-A and UV- B rays. Quantifying the barrier numerically lets us know how much we are protected; and gives us a sense of satisfaction.

The approach of Institut Esthederm towards sun protection is very different. The technology used is of course a patented one. This technology basically works on two formulae. The first one is PHOTOREVERSE- which the company claims as Prohibited Sunlight. Photo Reverse “encourages the skin’s adaptation and protection against the sun”; and helps in reversing the negative processes of cell damage which have already been started by the sun rays. The second formula is that of ADAPTASUN. Instead of putting up a barrier on the skin so that sun rays cannot pierce through this barrier; this brand’s sunscreens builds up a resistance against of the skin against the sun; and also adapts our skin to the sun rays.
I love the idea of their Photo Reverse which claims to reverse hyperpigmentation while protecting from the sun. It is the other way round compared to our usual sunscreens; and hence seems a bit complicated. It has no numbering system; no SPF, PA, etc… There is no way of knowing how much protection we are actually receiving against the sun rays. It takes a giant leap of faith from our side to actually accept this; and go out in the sun using only this sunscreen. However, as it is, it has been the ROLLS ROYCE of Sun care; and has been used in France since more than 30 years This is mainly for sun intolerant skin; though people with normal sin types may also use it.

Now about the product. It comes in a white color box packaging. Inside is a white tube; along with an information leaflet. The packaging is simple; yet looks so luxurious. The sunscreen inside is an off- white color cream, which is quite moderate in consistency. A small amount is needed for covering the entire face and neck and chest area. It has to be applied with your fingers; just like any other cream product. Initially it gives a whitish cast; but on further blending, the whitish cast disappears and the sunscreen totally gets absorbed into your skin. It leaves a mild moisturised glowyfinish; which can be offset by any finishing powder in oily skin beauties. Despite of the slight glow, it never looks oily nor greasy, even when you are in the hot sun. The product is totally water and sweat resistant; hence won’t start gliding off your face with time. Even in the most extreme of sun, it protects your skin against tanning, sun burns, freckles, or sun spots. I have been using it since the past few weeks , and I have been totally impressed with it. I donot know its SPF value, nor its PA values;and I DON’T CARE. Yes, I know at least this much…. This one totally protects me from the harsh rays of the sun. It has stopped tanning, sun spots and sun burns on my skin;as a result my skin has definitely become fairer; and has also faded off some of the dark pigmentation. It is extremely good for kids as well as adults who are totally intolerant to sun. As I said earlier, it works on the skin to adapt it to the sun rays.
