My take on Patanjali Kesh Kanti Reetha Hair Cleanser:

I feel that some day, I might end up buying all possible products by Patanjali Ayurveda! I can’t stop myself from going to the store every week and picking up at least one product. The fact that the store is at a hop-skip-jump distance from my place is another good reason for me. The guy at the store knows me so well by now that if he sees me coming, he keeps all the newly arrived products ready for me!! The reasons I buy these so often are that the products are inexpensive, mild, and generally effective. If they do not improve my hair or skin condition, they at least don’t worsen it.Anyway, let me move on to the review now.

I have an oily scalp and my hair is wavy, frizzy and quite dry! Over the years, the frizziness has reduced quite a bit though. I suffer from a lot of hair fall as well. I love to leave my hair open and style it in some way. But I always end up tying up my hair because of the frizziness and hair fall. This shampoo claims to address all of these problems and so, I ended up buying it. It is an absolutely no-frills kind of packaging. Extremely simple! It is a white colored bottle, with a black flip-open cap. The detailed list of ingredients, uses and other details have been mentioned on the bottle. Though the bottle shuts with a click and seems sturdy and leak proof at the moment, I find the back of the black cap a bit thin and flimsy. It might break if not handled carefully. So, I might not really carry this in my bag while travelling anywhere.

It is a shiny, deep black colored cleanser. The consistency of the shampoo is pretty nice – neither too thick nor very runny. It smells really pleasant and mild. I don’t think it has a herbal kind of fragrance. I think the smell is a bit powdery. If you remember the smell of “Kala Khatta flavoured Rasna”, it smells a bit like that!!! I know! Weird comparison! But that is the closest I can get to describing that smell! The fragrance is not at all bothersome, does not linger and lasts only till the hair is wet. I generally oil my hair well prior to shampooing, and dilute the shampoo a bit before using. To actually cleanse my hair and get rid of all the oil, I do not require a very huge quantity of shampoo. This cleanser also lathers quite well.

Coming to the performance of this product…… It is definitely not for people with dry hair! I generally oil my hair well, use this shampoo, conditioner and then apply Matrix Biolage hair serum. My hair feels really clean, fresh and soft after this. It does not leave any residue or greasiness behind. But it does not do anything for smoothening the hair and the frizz. If I skip the conditioner, hair becomes quite dry. I simply CANNOT skip oiling and conditioner if I want to use this shampoo. I did notice that it added a little amount of volume and shine to my hair. It claims to prevent / arrest hair fall. However, I did not find any difference in my hair fall. It has neither increased nor decreased. Out of all the claims made by this cleanser, it fulfilled one – adding shine to my hair. When my mother-in-law used this shampoo, she loved it! She has normal hair and scalp, and she felt that it made her hair soft and manageable. Probably, this shampoo works well for people with normal hair and for those who do not have frizziness issues.

Pros of Patanjali Kesh Kanti Reetha Hair Cleanser:

• Inexpensive
• Mild, pleasant fragrance
• Lathers well
• Cleans hair and scalp thoroughly
• If used along with oiling and conditioner, it makes hair soft
• Adds volume and shine to hair with regular use

Cons of Patanjali Kesh Kanti Reetha Hair Cleanser:

• Not for people with dry hair
• Does not do much for reducing frizz
• Does not really do much for preventing / arresting hair fall
• Oiling hair (prior to wash), and using conditioner is necessary
• The packaging (back of the cap) seems a little flimsy

IMBB Rating:

3/5

Verdict on Patanjali Kesh Kanti Reetha Hair Cleanser:

It is a good mild everyday cleanser for people with normal hair. People with dry, frizzy hair – DO NOT pick this up.

  1. Sorry i hv bad experiance, after using this shampoo my hair became grey,…..so now i stoped using this patanjali shampoo.
Many ppl told same experiance they also had after using this

    1. oh! its bad that this shampoo did not work out for you! i don’t think i would be buying this again… did not suit my dry hair much…

  2. Since I am user with middle income I do think that Reetha Cleansar from Baba Ramdev is a good product. I tried garnier n Pantene n dove hair fall plans bofore but this is the product that really showed the real results. It maintained my hair colour n improved hair volume. But it makes hair dry n yes oiling is recommended before using it.But unlike other products it do not harm n is free from side effects. Thanks Patanjali.
