How are you doing today? I am feeling equally nervous and happy as my holiday trip approaches near. Anyway, I have a new purchase for you today which is my first product from Japonesque which has so far proved to be good, not great though. I am not into the art of makeup like all of you pro artists here, but I am certainly trying to work with brushes, just for fun! However, I realized that it is not as easy as I thought since we need to properly clean and maintain makeup brushes because they can cause real harm to the skin in terms of breakouts. I own RT brush set for face and eyes and also brushes from Urban Decay and Sephora, but none of them actually deserve me 😛 because I am too rough and careless with such delicate and perfect brushes. Anyway after much googling and going through IMBB, I learnt about how to maintain delicate brushes and use them for perfect makeup though the cleaning part always kills my enthusiasm of using them. Thankfully, Japonesque Makeup Brush Cleanser came to my rescue and so far I can say that I am pretty comfortable using these makeup brushes on a daily basis with no need to additionally clean the brushes.

My Experience with Japonesque Makeup Brush Cleanser:
This is my first purchase from the brand Japonesque and that too my first makeup brush cleanser, hence I am not sure how it works compared to other brush cleansers in the market, but it certainly eased my task of cleaning and disinfecting my makeup brushes. However, looking at its slightly oily texture, I was quite skeptical to use it on my face brushes as I do have oily skin but it hardly leaves any residue on brushes after air drying them for a few minutes. I haven’t noticed any discomfort or breakouts so far after using the makeup brushes post cleaning them with this Japonesque cleanser. In fact, they feel quite soft and fresh on my sensitive skin.

I also like that the process of brush cleaning is so easy, all I need is to spray the cleaner on tip of soiled brush and gently rub the brush in circular motion on any soft tissue paper, cloth or makeup wipe. I usually prefer soft tissues or wipes for rubbing my brushes and I get squeaky clean and spongy tip within a few minutes depending upon the intensity of makeup and dirt deposited on the brushes. I tried using this cleanser on Urban Decay brush and it took me almost 2-3 spray pumps and 2-3 attempts to completely clean the brush which is not bad considering I get the same result by dipping the brush in baby wash solution for a few hours and then cleaning up, and then waiting for a day or two so that it dries up completely and is re-usable.

It took 1-2 hours for the brushes to be re-usable, isn’t that impressive? It also helps to dissolve and completely clean the eyeshadow brushes though I wait for a few hours before using them again considering it is oily in nature. I can say that this cleanser definitely saved my time and efforts up to a good extent, though I can still see light yellow foundation/powder stains on my brushes which are too stubborn to come off with this cleaner guess. However, I am also guilty of waiting for too long to clean my brushes, and that might have caused the staining.
Whatever, I would still like to follow traditional cleaning and air drying method to maintain hygiene and shelf life of of the brushes as I feel this brush cleaner is perfect, but I still fear there might be traces of dirt, makeup deposited deep down in the interiors of the brushes which might not come out totally with this cleanser.
Moreover, I am not much convinced by the way it leaves traces of lip color on my lip brush. It does help to remove almost 75-80% of the deposit and makeup off my lip brush, but I can still notice traces of lip color on my brush which refuses to come off even with vigorous rubbing and with generous spray of this cleanser. Eventually, I had to first dissolve all the makeup in this cleanser and then wash it separately in the traditional cleaning procedure. I am happy that it saves me the trouble of going through the baby wash procedure. Overall, I am quite happy with this purchase and looking forward to carry it all the way on my holiday trip and probably I would get its bigger version once I come back. I would recommend this cleanser to every make up junkie.
Let’s sum up the pros and cons:
Pros of Japonesque Makeup Brush Cleanser:
- Gentle brush cleanser which dissolves makeup, dirt and grime slowly, also nourishes every strand.
- The cleansing process is quite easy, we just need to spray it from a distance onto the brush and simply wipe off the brush head on any makeup remover wipe, cloth or simple towel to clean the brush.
- Does seem oily in nature, however, does not cause reactions on oily skin.
- Does not leave any residue on the brushes other than an oily/greasy layer for the first few minutes (this layer actually helps to dissolve makeup).
- We might need a spray or two of the cleanser depending upon the intensity of makeup and dirt on the brushes.
- Usually, my face brush needs two sprays while the lip brush demands a little more effort and generous sprays.
- Gives squeaky clean and fresh bristles which feels soft and spongy on skin, just like it’s new.
- Never caused any discomfort on my skin.
- Does not cause the bristles to shed.
- User-friendly and travel-friendly packaging.
Cons of Japonesque Makeup Brush Cleanser:
- The brush cleanser is slightly oily in nature, I fear that too generous an amount might leave residue.
- Not much effective in cleaning lip brushes, removes up to 75% to 80% dirt.
- Spraying process often leaves hands messy.
- Wouldn’t replace traditional washing and cleaning procedure with water.
Well, I think it is just a temporary fix and cannot replace the traditional brush cleansing methods because I (yeah the crazy one :P) always prefer washing hands with soap-free hand wash rather than reaching to hand sanitizers except in a few cases where I am traveling or shopping 😛 So, for me washing and sun/air drying is key to hygiene and comfort whatsoever!
IMBB Rating: I would certainly get it as a temporary quick fix though, it’s 3.9/5 for me!
