Kama Ayurveda Nalpamaradi Thailam – The Goodness of Ayurveda in a Bottle

I will make a confession; I am not a fan of ayurvedic or organic products as they seem to do very little for my skin woes, but since I read the review of Kumkumadi thailam here, I wanted to try it out and recently went to the nearest Kama Ayurveda outlet to buy it. However, at the last minute, I got intimidated by the Rs. 1300 price tag and a persuasive SA convinced me to try the Nalpamaradi Thailam instead, which also promised similar benefits at a much lower price. I was not happy with my impulsive buy and resigned myself to using it up as fast as I could, but I actually ended up liking it 🙂

What Kama Ayurveda says about its product:

Start using 90 days before the big day for best results The Sesame Oil in Nalpamaradi Thailam moisturizes the skin, acts as a natural sunscreen and also prevents ageing while Turmeric and Gooseberry reduces blemishes and cures acne with its antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Vetiver with its regenerative power rebuilds skin surface, supports and strengthens the connective tissues in skin reducing skin sagging that happens with ageing. Indian Madder keeps the skin lustrous.”

Price:

Rs. 475 for 100 ml.

Packaging:

The oil comes in a plastic bottle with a golden cap. The bottle has two nozzle openings which dispense a small amount of the product each time. This eliminates wastage of the oil. Also since the bottle is plastic, it is quite travel-friendly. Overall, a decent packaging. Nothing fancy just useful.

My Skin Concerns:

I have combination skin which is very prone to breakouts and hyperpigmentation. Years of suffering from acne has given me lots of brown spots on my cheeks. I also have problems with skin dullness and stubborn sun spots on my hands due to sun exposure. I am always on the hunt for skin brightening products that don’t clog my pores.

My Experience with Kama Ayurveda Nalpamaradi Thailam:

I have been using the oil for the past 1-and-half months on my face and my hands along with my regular acne medications. The Nalpamaradi Thailam is a pale yellow colored oil with a rather thin consistency for an oil. It has a very strong and unpleasant herbal smell which lingers even after you apply it. However, the smell is also indicative of the fact that it is a natural product and no fillers/synthetic fragrances have been added. I use the oil during night time about an hour before going to bed.

Before applying the oil, I cleanse my face with a mild hydrating cleanser and take a few drops of it in my hand and gently pat in on my skin. I have noticed that even though the oil is rather thin, it does not have much slip once you put it on the skin, so trying to massage the oil too hard on your skin can cause the skin to become red (happened with me).  So, I pat and press the oil on my skin.  You can also follow it with a warm towel press. Kama Ayurveda refers to it as treatment oil, so you must remove it after 30 minutes. The oil has a peculiar property. It is somewhat soluble in water. Usually for removing facial oils, you need a cleanser.  However, with this, I just take some cold water in a cotton pad and gently remove it. Most of the oil comes off leaving a very thin but moisturizing layer behind. However, due to the presence of turmeric, the oil is mildly staining.

I have quite an acne-prone skin and it has never broken me out or caused any greasy shine or open pores in the morning.  For my hands, I simply massage the oil and forget about it 🙂

Kama Ayurveda Nalpamaradi Thailam

The Nalpamaradi thailam has given me quite good results for my skin. It’s not miraculous however it has made my skin more even toned and glowing. It had also faded many of my lighter brown spots. However, I have some really dark and pesky ones which are yet to be lightened, but I expect good results with them as well. The oil has shown very good results on my dark elbows and tanned hands. I am very satisfied with the results and will definitely repurchase it once this one gets over. Quantity provided is very good as well since you need only a few drops each time. However, I would suggest that you check for sensitivity as many people can be sensitive towards turmeric or other herbal oils.  Overall, a very good product from Kama Ayurveda!!

So, let’s summarize the pros and cons:

Pros of Kama Ayurveda Nalpamaradi Thailam:

  • Consistency is very good even for oil/combination skin. No breakouts or open pores.
  • Makes skin even toned and glowing.
  • Lightens blemishes and removes tan.
  • Easy to remove even with water.
  • Plastic packaging which is easy to carry and is not flimsy.
  • Very good price and sufficient quantity provided.
  • Very little product is needed each time.

Cons of Kama Ayurveda Nalpamaradi Thailam:

  • Need patience to see results, especially on very dark spots.
  • Mildly staining.
  • Very strong and unpleasant smell.
  • Availability is an issue as there are only a few Kama Ayurveda outlets. In Kolkata, it is available in Quest Mall, Park Circus; however, you can buy it online.

IMBB Rating:

Overall, I would rate the oil as 3.75/5.It needs time to show results. However, it does work after some time.

  1. Welcome back to IMBB tridhara 🙂 Very good product it seems to be, you know, you can get it from kottakal aryavaidyshala at a lesser price…..

    1. Thanks for letting me know Jomol..Next time though i will buy the kumkumadi oil though!!..heard great things about that one.

  2. I have been using this product since last seven or eight months and is on my second bottle right now. Though I keep it overnight over my Vit C serum and you are very right on slow results and smell point. But as per my very own experience this one is the best ayurvedic oil to use against tanning and dark spots. It nourishes my skin like dream and trust me when I say that I am not feeling the need for clean up and my concealer is of no use to me anymore.
