My Experience with Kama Ayurveda Organic Neem Oil:

outer packaging

Neem has an old-world charm to it and takes me back to the sweet time when I was a kid. We used to have a huge neem tree at our home and my mom would make us chew the tiny new leaves (yuk!) with the onset of monsoons. During summers and monsoons, my mom would boil neem leaves and add that water to our bath water so that we do not face any skin issues. So when I spotted this newly launched Organic Neem Oil, I knew it would be awesome. And, guess what! It is awesome. 🙂

packaging

Packaging : The packaging is same as other Kama products. It comes in a sturdy, see-through and travel friendly packaging with green stickers (as it is color coded). There is a stopper also, which prevents leakage. I think only this kind of dispenser would have worked for this oil for the oil is thick. The outer cardboard packaging is covered with pictures of neem leaves and is green too, as you can see.

bottle

Consistency and fragrance : It is a very thick oil, not as thick as castor oil though. Still it gets spread on the hair well and gets absorbed by the scalp easily. It does not feel heavy on the skin or hair. The one thing that bugs me is its smell. It is a very strong smell that can definitely give you headache within minutes. But, believe me, this is the only con. It is easy to wash off too, doesn’t take too much efforts. But the smell stays in the hair even after hair wash, though mildly. I can definitely bear this smell, which is essentially of neem. On head, I wear a shower cap after applying this. On face, I have to deal with it.

On hair : I keep this oil on for around 30-40 minutes, that’s the max I can do with this smell. Then, wash it off with regular shampoo and follow up with a conditioner. This works amazing if you have scalp issues. It removes all the dandruff and flakes easily. My elder sister can see definite improvement as her dandruff is almost gone. My scalp used to itch and burn a little at certain areas and this oil has cured this. I cannot comment on hair growth claim yet, but I assume it must be great at it too. Also, it moisturises the hair pretty well and keeps it healthy. I am noticing an added shine and health in my hair now.

cruelty free brand

Face : I apply this oil on cleansed face, massage a little and keep it on for 15-20 minutes. Then, I take some Mridul and wash my face. I follow up with rose water and then moisturise. It tingles a bit and makes face feel a little warm but that’s bearable. It has improved my complexion ever since I have started using this oil. I started using this oil around the time when I was having breakouts but this oil completely stopped it. No new pimple popped out after one or two applications but it did not stop old pimples from growing.

cap

Overall : An amazing organic oil that can cure a lot of skin and hair woes IF it suits you. Make sure you use a tester or take a patch test before you start using this oil. I highly recommend you go through all the details given on the website before you start using it. It is a very pungent and strong oil. Also, sniff it too for not everyone can bear this smell. This oil has replaced my coconut oil for hair and has become my HG hair oil (at the moment). I am sure I will love it more during monsoons when my scalp becomes a bit irritated.
