Kanebo Kate Slim Gel Liner Pencil BK-1 Review

Hi guys!

When I saw a huge booth saying Kate products 30% off, I picked up a few things. I have been on the hunt for a pencil that won’t smudge and I think I may have found it!! *woohoo*!!

Product description: A gel eyeliner molded in a pencil form that lets you easily draw very dark lines. A super fine gel eyeliner pencil for the quick and easy creation of smooth and slim lines with vivid thick coloration unique to gels.

Packaging: The gel pencil comes in a very thin and compact black packaging. It has a good sturdy cap that shuts closed. I recommend that you take extra care to ensure the cap is back on properly after use, because otherwise it might dry out and be even more difficult to work with. One thing to note about this is that once you retract the product, that’s it. You cannot unscrew and make the product go back into the pencil. This is the case with many of the drugstore gel pencil eyeliners here.

Shade: This pencil is available in 2 colours: black and brown. I picked up the black one called BK-1. The colour is absolutely pitch, midnight black.

Consistency: The consistency is one thing I am not a fan of with this pencil. It does tend to drag on the skin and be a little difficult to draw a line with. I have to hold my eye taut for me to get a straight line and I usually never do that with eyeliner. I have crow’s feet and I feel holding the eye taut like that isn’t doing it any favours. If you want something very very creamy, then I do not recommend this pencil because the texture is a little hard and difficult to work with.

Staying power: One thing to mention about this, is that once you apply, you need to waste no time and immediately blend it if need be. It sets in about 20 or 30 seconds of application so working on one area at a time is better. So the downside is that you don’t have a lot of play time with this but the good part is that once it sets, it sets to a budge-proof finish. It does not crease or disappear over the course of the day. I never have to lay down an eyeshadow primer to increase longetivity but the primer might help it to glide a bit better. It is also very very easy to remove than my liquid pen-style eyeliners. So that’s another plus. On the waterline, it tends to disappear after a few hours but does not smudge or transfer whatsoever. This does not bother me because I prefer not to wear any product on my waterline (I am a contact lens wearer and get eye infections easily). Instead, I recommend laying down the product right below it, at the root of the lower lashes. This way, the longetivity is much much better.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation on this is pretty incredible. It has one-swipe pigmentation, so I never find myself reapplying or going over the areas where I have already laid the pencil down.

Final thoughts:
If you are on the hunt for the perfect eyeliner, this might not be it. Having said that, I am still very glad that I have it in my collection. All the kajals that I have had so far transfer very badly on me. I love that this one sets very well and is intense black.
