Hello gorgeous gals,
Today, I review for you my first Kat Von D product. You have seen the review of a number of KVD products from Neha A– eyeshadow palette, long lasting liquid lipsticks, eyeliners, etc. I had been trying to get my hands on KVD stuff since ages. Recently, one of my sweet friends visiting US for vacation, offered to get some stuff for me. I promptly shared a list with her, however making a horrendous error.
Kat Von D has these Studded Kiss lipsticks, which are like a normal lipstick bullet, and then there are the long lasting liquid lipstick. Little did know that there are some common shades running in both the lines. So, both lines have the shades Bauhua5, L.U.V, Backstage Bambi, etc. So, while I was hoping to get the liquid lipstick, I ended up with this instead. So, how did this one fair? Let’s find out.
An innovative lipstick that coats lips with bold color, long-lasting wear, and luxe comfort.
What it does:
Drench your lips with bold color and unstoppable femininity. Designed to look as rock ‘n roll as its wearer, this revolutionary, hybrid lipstick is formulated with Color Cushion Technology™, which combines lasting-wear, one-swipe payoff, and velvet-touch comfort. This color-true lipstick leaves lips supple, and its wide color spectrum offers stunning shades, including red for every skintone, statement-making colors, and classic, everyday neutrals.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
What else you need to know:
Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick is infused with vitamins A, C, and E, an antioxidant complex that leaves lips feeling soft, and the Crème Brûlée scent provides a subtle, sweet experience when you apply it. Designed by Kat to resemble one of her favorite bracelets, the black, monochromatic casing is uniquely studded and topped with her KVD monogram on the outer crown and bullet.
$21 in US plus taxes
The lipstick comes packaged in a black cardboard box. The lipstick case itself is pretty neat – distinctly different from any other cases out there. It has a normal twist up mechanism. The bullet itself has the KVD insignia on it. Looks real classy.
My Experience with Kat Von D Bauhau5 Studded Kiss Lipstick:
The colour I selected – Bauhua5 is a berry/purple shade. It’s a gorgeous fall colour. It is deep and fairly dark – but it somehow brightens up the face. The finish of this line of lipsticks is matte. However, the shade does not look like it’s dry and deathly.
The shade, Bauhua5, is absolutely identical for both lines – the Studded Kiss Lipstick and the Liquid lipstick. I actually checked a YouTube video where the vlogger had applied both the shades together – one on each half of her lips. The shade reminds me a little of MAC Rebel. However, Rebel has satin finish, so has much more shine, and the texture and pigmentation both are starkly different.
I was dreading the texture of this lipstick as I had about how drying it was. However, apparently, KVD has reworked the formulation of this line and the texture is way more comfortable now than what it used to be – apparently. For me, the texture felt comfortable. The lipstick glided smoothly on my lips without any tug or pull. It settled into a comfortable matte finish. It did not feather or bleed. The wear was comfortable for about 5 – 5.5hrs, post which I could feel it to be drying. However, the lips did not look like prunes – with all moisture sucked out of them. The appearance continued to look flawless. Also, the colour did not sink into any lip lines. I would recommend well exfoliated lips with this.
The only flip side that I found to this lipstick is that if it breaks down from certain areas, and if you want to do touch up by re-application, the touch up looks patchy. It’s almost like the texture of the product has changed post application and it no longer gels with the original texture. This means, re-application has to be in the form of removal of the lipstick, and reapplying the whole thing again.
Excellent pigmentation – 100% colour deposit in a single swipe. It’s absolutely gorgeous, full-on saturated colour. Loved it!
This one lasts for good 7 hours plus. Also, it leaves a residual stain which hangs around for couple more hours. An oily meal will break down the lipstick – especially from the inner sides of the lips. However, normal sipping, biting has pretty much no effect on it. You will need an oil based remover to take it off.
Swatches and FOTD:
To sum this up for you:
Pros of Kat Von D Bauhau5 Studded Kiss Lipstick:
• An absolutely gorgeous fall colour – I LOVE IT!!
• Great pigmentation
• Easy to apply from the tube
• Does not settle into the fine lines of the lips
• The colour hugs the lips nicely – no feathering or bleeding
• Hides lip pigmentation well
• Luxe and classy feel to the tube and case
• No fragrance
• No taste
• Does not transfer
Cons of Kat Von D Bauhau5 Studded Kiss Lipstick:
• Drying over extended time
• Ease of availability
• Touch up can look patchy
Despite the minor cons, I absolutely love this lipstick – and I think a lot has to do with the colour. I find the colour absolutely stunning and very flattering; quite perfect for fall. In the end, I’m glad that I made the “mistake” of not specifying the line for this one is a winner for me. Love the finish, love that it does not transfer easily, and as I have said again and again – LOVE the shade!
I would suggest you to check out this line. If this colour is not up your alley, that’s okay. The brand has a plethora of other colours to chose from – right from bright neon pinks to nudes to an actual GREEN! No, I’m not buying the green one any time soon.
