Kat Von D Echo Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Review

I am super excited to share today’s review not just because it is a liquid lipstick – yes, they do still excite me! But also because of the shade. When has a shade ever excited me this much – cannot remember. So, let us find out more about KVD’s Echo!

Packaging:
This comes in a lip gloss kind of packaging – only sleeker and prettier! The packaging is long and slender with exquisite artwork. The tube is transparent so it’s easy to identify the colour. The bottle comes packaged in the standard KVD black outer box.  The applicator is a soft and bendy – refer pics. Makes for easy and precise application.

My Experience with Kat Von D Echo Everlasting Liquid Lipstick:

Color: The shade “Echo” is a deep cool-toned navy blue. Yes, it is a liquid lipstick and not an eyeliner. This is probably the most daring lipstick in my whole stash. I thought MAC Stone and NARS Dominique were a little out of my comfort zone – this one really stretched my boundaries. It is not that I haven’t tried blue lipstick before. I did try a MAC variant quite some time back when they released a blue shade in their matte collection. So, I tried it in the store, but I couldn’t get myself to buy it. I did wear it while browsing through the mall enjoying people’s startled expressions! But, when it came to KVD, I couldn’t help but pick this up. If anything, I was super excited!

The shade is obviously loud and out there. It is likely to be off the comfort zone for most of the people. It would suit any skin tone and who has the courage to try it. Having said all that – you will find this and similar shades a lot on Instagram. I would actually term this a “Insta product.” Something which is probably more suitable for pics, for editorial work – rather than your daily life or a day at work (unless you work for Sephora of course), but if you do want to wear it to office and your office norms allow – by all means, do!

Texture: The texture is lightweight and creamy liquid, much in line with the other lipsticks that I have tried from this range. It was still smooth and easy to spread over the lips, but the pigment would not spread evenly. It didn’t go patchy but despite being lightweight, it would not go into the lip lines. So when you smile, you can see the area which does not have the colour. So obviously, you have to go over it again. It dries down to a matte finish but isn’t too drying on the lips.

Pigmentation: Pigmentation of this one was disappointing. It sheers out while spreading. You have to build it up, but the good thing is that it does not look goopy or thick even with two layers on. Two layers give you the full coverage and the shade in the bottle. This was a bit weird for me because I had not encountered any other colour in this line, sheering out like this.

Lasting Power:  This aspect again was bummer for me. The product lasts for about 3.5-4 hours, post which you can see it disappearing from the centre of your lower lip. It does not fade, it totally disappears leaving a patch of skin visible, which is not appealing. The good thing was that it does not leave a stain. While I am all for a nice stain on the lips, giving more wear time. However, when the shade is navy blue, you don’t wait to stain your lips. Another positive was that even when it wears out and disappears on you – it just goes. It does not start staining the skin around the lips or your cup or spoon etc. It just disappears on you – like a bad boyfriend!

Cons of Kat Von D Echo Everlasting Liquid Lipstick:

• You feel a bit of stretch when it first dries off, but the feeling is minimal and short lived.
• The lipstick sheers out and needs to be built up.
• The shade does not sink into the lip lines – meaning you do not get colour between the lines. Something about the pigment which does not allow it to adhere properly to the skin.
• Short wear time.

IMBB Rating:
A 3/5 product.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this one because while the shade is stunning (maybe not too wearable but still stunning), the quality does not match up to the rest of the line.  Having said that, I think this shade would still be great for someone who is more into social media. Meaning – the shade clicks beautifully and looks distinctly striking. I mean, when I wore it, my hubby kept looking back at me. It took me a while to realise that he is probably waiting for me to bring out my broom and fly away but…

Jokes apart, this isn’t the product – both in terms of shade and quality for being worn for an occasion or regular day, but if you are a MUA who does editorial work or have distinct social presence – on Insta or YouTube – you might quite enjoy it because then wear time will not be an issue.

Would I Repurchase Kat Von D Echo Everlasting Liquid Lipstick?

I don’t think I would repurchase. While I will enjoy wearing this one just for pure experimentation, I don’t think I would repurchase it.
