Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder Review

Hello everyone,

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday season with your loved ones. I for one, am desperately looking forward to the upcoming New Year and I wish it brings us all luck and prosperity and obviously lots of color in our lives makeup wise and in other aspects as well ;). Let’s get on to the review of a new release from my all-time favorite makeup brand created by the stunning and talented Kat von D. This review will be on the Lock-it setting powder.

Product Description
A weightless translucent loose powder, formulated with Micro-Blurring Technology™, to set and perfect for a flawless, locked-in finish.

What it does:
Experience a next level setting powder. Kat Von D’s innovative formula uses delicate mica powders rather than the heavy, chalky binding ingredients found in other powders—reducing the weight by 30 percent. This prevents the dry, chalky finish most powders leave behind, and instead delivers a perfectly smooth, seamless look, with the same number of uses.

My Experience with Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder:

Packaging:  This loose setting powder comes in a plastic jar with a black cap featuring the KVD logo. While the jar looks hefty, it’s actually a lightweight plastic. The jar’s sifter holes are arranged in the shape of a star, inspired by Kat’s signature star tattoos which I find so cool as it shows her attention to minute details.

Texture: This powder is extremely fine and weightless with a silky feel when you rub it between your fingers. I find this powder to be even finer than the Laura Mercier Setting Powder which I love. The powder being as fine it is does have some fly-aways when you swirl your brush in, but nothing too bad.

Performance:  I am absolutely blown away by the performance of this powder. It applies and blends on to the skin like a wisp of air with absolutely no caky or heavy look. It is ideal either to bake with or to use it as a light dusting all over the skin or both. I find that when I use this to bake my concealer it gives an air-brushes look with a velvety matte finish. It never clings onto dry flaky patches (even on my dry skin in the winter months which is saying something) nor it ever seem to emphasize the look of them. It also blurs the look of pores to some extent.

Shade:  This shade claims to be translucent but it does have a slight brightening effect on the skin.

Staying Power:  This powder keeps my skin matte for over 7-8 hours and helps my concealer stay crease free.

Overall, I am blown away by this product and you truly have to use it to believe it and see a difference for yourself. I had high expectations from this from the start and it lived upto every bit of it and more. I highly recommend this and its worth every penny. I might even repurchase this if/when I run out.

Pros of Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder:

  • Weightless silky powder.
  • Sleek packaging.
  • Translucent with a brightening effect.
  • Works wonderful to bake with or use as an all-over setting powder.
  • Never cling onto dry patches or emphasize the look of them.
  • Mattifying but does not feel drying on the skin.
  • Makes the skin look airbrushed.
  • Super finely milled.

Cons of Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Powder:

  • None. I love everything about this product.

  1. That powder sounds too good…should it go on “the List”?? As if i need more powders in my life!!

My great discovery for 2016 was the RCMA no colour powder! Try it when you pick something up from Beautylish… I swear, i prefer it to Laura Mercier Translucent powder or the NARS Crystal brightening powder! It is that good!
