Product Description:

Kat created this foundation to provide exceptional coverage, without compromising a smooth, striking finish. Formulated with 21 percent pigment, this powerful formula was developed to match a broad range of skintones with bold coverage – the proprietary pigments can even effectively cover tattoos. The combination of raw materials and the best siliconic elastomers and siliconic esters provide 24-hour wear with transfer resistance. Natural polymers absorb oil for a matte, soft finish and the added emollients provide a velvety texture for perfectly smooth, hydrated skin.

My Experience with Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo Foundation:

To start with, I love good coverage, but I like makeup which feels very light on my skin.  So initially, I was really skeptical if this high coverage foundation would let my skin breath or not, but when I used it, it did feel light on the skin. I won’t say that it is so light that you will feel bare skinned, but it feels very light considering the full coverage it gives. To prove its coverage capabilities, I have done a “mole” test.

Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo Foundation

As you can see, I have a dark black mole on my hand and when I apply foundation on that, the foundation does cover it up to an extent and when I tap some more foundation, the coverage is even more.  The mole does not become invisible, but it does get covered up to a large extent.  For small brown marks on my face, it works wonderfully and covers all imperfections beautifully without feeling heavy on the skin.  For me, I need just 1 and ½ pumps of this every time to cover my face completely, so a little goes a long way.

Talking of the consistency, it is thick, but easy to spread. It dries and settles on the skin very quick, so during application, you better be fast. I used it with my ELF foundation brush and with fingers too.  I feel the application with brush feels more even than with fingers.  It gives a matte finish to the skin; however, it does not look very dry on my combination to oily skin. For very dry skin, I will suggest applying a moisturizer underneath.  On my combination to oily skin, it stayed for almost the full day (until I removed it) and did not make my skin excessively oily when I used it in comparatively cooler weather. However, in humid weather, it made my skin very oily and I felt very uncomfortable with this on my skin. But that can happen with most of the makeup in humid and hot weather, so I will not deduct points for that; however, if you live in such a weather, I will suggest to skip this one.

It claims to be transfer proof and that claim is true.  I also realized that it’s also waterproof to a big extent.  After splashing water on my face and lightly dabbing with towel, this was still intact on my face. It also claims to be fragrance free; however, I feel it smells like paint like to me. Thankfully, the smell does not last long, so it’s not an issue. It comes in a plastic bottle with a pump top which is very hygienic and travel friendly too.

To sum it up, if full coverage is what you are looking for, this foundation will do the best job for you. It has a wide verity of shades to choose from, so chances are that you will get your perfect match from this range easily.  It’s not something you would love to wear every day, but for special occasions, when you want perfect-looking skin, this will do the best job for you. I recommend this to everyone looking for good coverage with matte finish. However, if you have very oily skin and if you live in humid and hot weather, then you might not be comfortable with this foundation on your skin, so stay away.

  2. I like the packaging, it looks cool. 🙂 It would totally not cover tattoos, as it claims, but it looks like a heavy coverage foundation. 🙂

    1. true Ida… I think tatto with black ink will not get covered, but anything with, blue green or brown will be covered more then black I feel as it covers brown marks and redness on face perfectly.
