My Experience with Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette:

Packaging:  Kat Von D eyeshadow palettes all have a similar style of sturdy cardboard box that come with a nice sized mirror. On this particular palette, the outer case has a beautiful illustration of a butterfly, most probably inspired from the Monarch butterflies, hence the name. The layout is exactly the same like her other eyeshadow palettes with a total of 12 eyeshadows.

Texture and Pigmentation:  All of these eyeshadows are so buttery smooth (particularly the matte shades) that they almost feel creamy. They are insanely pigmented hence it is important that you tap off the excess before brushing them on the eyes. They show up with full intensity and there isn’t even a need to use a primer underneath. Though these shadows are not particularly prone to fallout if you tap off the excess, you reduce any chance of it. They blend out and layer on beautifully.

Shades:  This palette is mostly of warm tone shadows which are my absolute favorite to work with. There is good mix of matte and shimmers. The color variety in this palette is fantastic and has a lot of potential to kick in your inner creativity.

Entomology is described as matte cream. On me, it looks a bit of pale yellow beige. This is good shade to use as an all-over color to set your eye primer and neutralize the base; can also be used as a brow bone highlighter.

Wrath is described as a deep pearl orange. To me, it looks like a sunset coppery orange. It also has a small amount of golden shimmer which is not too apparent when applied. This is my favorite shade in the palette (no surprise there, if you have read any of my previous reviews). This shade is amazing to put into the crease, works as a great transition shade and gives a look to your eyes which is as magnificent as gazing into the sunset.

Papilio is described as pearl chocolate. To me, it looks like a deep copper brown. This shade too has small amount of golden shimmer which gives it a satiny finish. This is nice crease shade and particularly useful when creating deep dark eye looks.

Summerfly is described as glitter gold – another one of my favorite. The combination of this shade and “Wrath” are a pair made for each other. It has a shimmery finish hence perfect for party wear.

Telepathy is described as pearl gold. To me, it looks frosty dirty silver. This shade is good as an all-over lid shade.

Killing Jar is described as pearl copper. This shade has the same finish and look of Telepathy, but this shade has a pinker undertone and also a good lid shade.

Delaney is described as pearl silver. Also a shade with a similar look and finish as the two shades above. This shade however leans more toward gunmetal silver.

Vanish is described as matte taupe. On me, it looks a deep greyish taupe. This shade pairs perfectly and works as a good blending out crease shade when creating a cool toned eye or a silvery frosty eye. This shade doesn’t have as strong pigmentation as all other shades in this palette, but it is easily buildable.

Tiny Death is described as glitter cream. This shade is creamy beige with slight amount of silver shimmer which doesn’t translate as sparkly.  This shade mostly comes off as matte and the shimmer kind of gets lost on application. It is a good brow bone highlighter.

Disintegration is described as pearl brown. To me, this looks like a deep bronzy charcoal shade with an olive undertone. Though it contains lots of shimmer, it doesn’t come across as frosty. It looks satiny hence can even work as a crease shade.

Shadow Box is described as matte chocolate which is absolutely true. It has no shimmer and is one of a basic shade a good palette needs to have.

Deadhead is described as matte black. Another basic shade a good palette needs to have.

Staying Power:  These shadows wear great throughout the day with no fading or creasing. The shimmer shades retain their vibrancy all day long.
