Today, I bring to you a fantastic new product newly release by the very beautiful Kat Von D. Kat Von D is on such a roll right now with so many new releases which are a hit after hit. I have previously raved in the review of the Shade + Light contour kit & Shade + Light Contour brush which are both my absolute favorite items and to follow up with that theme, Kat Von D released a Shade + Light Eye Contour palette. The moment I saw this palette I swooned and I knew I had to have it.
About The Product:
An eye contouring palette featuring three color quads in neutral, cool, and warm shades.
What it does:
Transform your eyes through the art of contouring. After tapping into makeup pro secrets, Kat Von D created this first-of-its-kind eye shadow palette. It’s specially-designed for eye contouring, a groundbreaking technique once used only by beauty experts to define and enhance eyes. This palette features a gorgeous, versatile array of true contouring shades, arranged into three color quads—neutral, cool, and warm—to flatter every skintone.
Three large base shadows are arranged above three coordinating powders for contouring, defining, and highlighting. The palette includes an easy-to-follow contouring guide with step-by-step instructions for creating three different eye-opening techniques. Each velvety powder is blendable and buildable, and it features Kat Von D’s signature high-pigment, long-wear eye shadow formula, created to deliver rich color that lasts all day and all night.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:
What else you need to know:
“The true inspiration behind the Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette comes from all these years of trying to understand the usage of shadows and light within the portraits I draw.”—Kat Von D
Kat Von Do opens your eyes to a once-exclusive world of pro contouring techniques with the step-by-step insert included with the palette. Apply shades with Shade + Light Eye Contour Brush (sold separately), specially designed for use with this palette. She hand-sketched the “Shade + Light Eye” logo featured on the palette cover.
Master three transformative eye-contouring techniques—lift, balance, and define—with the easy-to-follow guide, created and illustrated by Kat Von D: Lift to raise outer corners and accentuate or create a crease. Define to emphasize lash lines and create depth. Balance to draw eyes either closer together or farther apart.
My Experience with Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette :
Comes in a sturdy cardboard box. The box looks very similar to the contour kit from Kat Von D with a decent sized mirror inside. This palette is travel-friendly and also comes with a beautifully illustrated guide.
The texture of these shadows is a very smooth and soft powder. It is not creamy but it is still very easy to blend and does not feel chalky or ashy at all. It does not kick up a whole lot of powder when you dip your brush in and also does not create tons of fallout.
The eye shadows are divided into 3 quads- Neutral , Cool and Warm with a total of 12 eye shadows all together. If you look at it in a glance you might see everything looking same but upon closer inspection you will find that not one of the shades is duplicated. The all have different tone and shade range which translate just as they look in the pan on the eyes. They do not get muddy when you blend. All the names of the shades are Latin words/names.
As with makeup it is completely upto you to experiment. You can stick to 1 quad and create a look as recommended by Kat Von D illustrations or go your own way and pick shade from each quad. It is very interesting how many different looks you can create by mixings cool and warm tones, neutral and cool etc etc. You can create wearable daytime looks or every go dark and smoky for night time. This palette is super versatile.
All of these shades are completely matte. Some highlight shade do provide a very very subtle sheen if you look closely. Also needless to say ( if you know be by my previous reviews) the warm quad is my absolute favorite.
Let’s break down each of the shade individually.
• Laetus- Creamy Beige. Great shadow to set the eye primer with or use as base or highlight.
• Samael- Dusty Fawn. Great crease shade.
• Solas- Espresso Brown. A deeper more warmer version of Samael. Also a good crease shade or a shade you can use to create a brown smoky eye.
• Lucius- Soft Beige. A beautiful highlight shade.
• Lazarus- Cool taupe. Translates a light grey on the eye. Great to use as transition shade or to blend out harsh edges.
• Saleaos- Smokey brown. A good crease shade or shade to use to create smokey eyes.
• Shax- Jet Black. A must in eye palette
• Liberatus- Light pinkish Ivory. Translates very white on the eye but it does not look ashy or chalky. It is a good highlight shade for inner corner or browbone.
• Ludwin- Peachy Bronze. A beautiful transition shade or shade to blend harsh edges.
• Succubus- Rich Rust. A drool worthy shade. This is a beautiful all over lid color which will give you a very unique eye look or you can just use it in the crease.
• Sytry- Chocolate Brown A nice crease shade
• Latinus- Golden Bisque. A perfect all over lid shade to give an appearance of brighter eyes. Or can also be used as a highlight.
All the shades in this palette are richly pigmented even the lighter shades. They are also buildable to full opaque intensity.
These shadows do not crease on me and are long wearing. They wear the whole day with minimal fading with a primer underneath.
Overall, I am head over heels in love with this palette. I have used many matte palettes in the past and this one surpasses all of them simply because of the beautiful shade range and impeccable quality of the shadows. If you get this palette, this is all you will ever need in terms of having that perfect all matte palette.I highly highly recommend this.
