Kate Somerville Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum Review

We all know that a good skin care routine involves eating healthy food and also following a good skin care routine. Each vitamin has a specific quality that it imparts in our well being which is mentioned in detail here. Multivitamins come as a blessing in disguise to supply nutrients which we might be missing in our daily diet.  Hence a serum, which claimed to provide total vitamin solution to my skin, caught my eye and I picked up Kate Somerville Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum. I wanted to see if the topical application of the serum would boost my skin with all nutrients at one go. So, let me go ahead and introduce you to KS Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum.

Kate Somerville Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum

Kate Somerville Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum Packaging:

It has a very similar packaging to KS Quench Hydrating Serum.  The serum is packaged in a travel-friendly metallic gray finish bottle with a sturdy dispenser. There is a transparent column on the side, which helps you to see the serum amount available in the bottle. The serum is extremely light and transparent with a very pale yellow color. It is almost fragrance free except that you get a light chemical fragrance once you begin applying, but it completely fades away almost immediately.

Price:

It is priced at $65 for 1 oz. (30 ml).

Claims about Kate Somerville Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum:

Though the serum claims to be “total” vitamin, in fact, it contains only 2 major vitamins, which are vitamin C and vitamin E. Both of these vitamins are very helpful in anti-ageing regimen.  So, though it is not a complete multi-vitamin blend for the skin, it is further infused with concoction of amino acids as skin boosters. It also contains skin toning ingredients chamomile and green tea along with sodium hyaluranate, which claims to hold 1000 times its weights in water…phew !

My Experience with Kate Somerville Total Vitamin Antioxidant Face Serum:

This serum is extremely lightweight, so as soon as I apply it on my face, all of it gets absorbed into the skin and that’s how I like my serums to be too. Since serums have anti-aging content in a very high concentration compared to lotions or creams, I do not want the serums to be like a coating on the skin.  Instead I prefer serums to reach beneath the layers of the skin and provide maximum nutrition.

The fragrance is a mild mix of chamomile and medicinal, but fades away very soon after application.  The changes that I found in my skin was that though it did not completely lighten any freckles, but yes, it made my skin smoother. My pore size became smaller and I do find my skin surface less coarse. Does it brighten my skin? No, but it did provide a more even look to the skin.

The serum proved to be good for my dry skin as I can layer it with my face cream after the serum has been absorbed. For an oily or normal skin, it would suffice to just use the serum alone. Since it has higher concentration of the ingredients, for sensitive skin, please do a patch test. Also, it is highly recommended to use sunscreen when using any cream or serum with Vitamin C as our skin becomes more sensitive and takes a major hit when exposed to direct sunlight.

Though the description says it is primarily a face serum, I use it on my neck too. And yes I want to request all of you who are reading the review to please not ignore the skin on your neck. It needs the same special care and pampering as the facial skin.  I just need one pump of serum for my face and one pump of serum for my neck. With the tiny amount usage, I am sure this serum will last me for quite some time.

Now, how does this serum fare against my personal holy grail Philosophy When Hope is Not Enough Serum.  I would say it is almost as good as my Philosophy Hope is not enough serum, but it takes a beating at the cost. I alternate it with my Philosophy serum by using Philosophy serum in morning and this serum in the night. Why? Because it is “total” vitamin and I want a booster shot working on my skin while I am on my beauty sleep and the price at which this serum comes at, I want to use every bit of it 🙂
