Hello there lovelies,
Kate is a Japanese brand owned by Kanebo and is my favourite, superior quality Japanese drugstore brand. I always keep trying new products from the Kate line and I’m not disappointed! Japanese mascaras are very famous and rightfully so. They have amazing staying power and are generally waterproof. They lengthen and thicken the lashes while keeping the curl intact.
The unique two-sided wand brush transforms your eyelashes into jet black with alluring luster.
Experience the black bird feather-like, soft and gorgeous lashes.
My Experience with Kate Tokyo Black Feather Lash Mascara in BK-1 Mysterious Black:
I’m comparing this against Lorac’s Cobra Mascara which clumps and weighs my lashes down and made them lose the curl. Also, there is too much product coming out on the wand, so I usually remove excess product on the tube and then apply and even then it transfers! It gets all over my eyelid and under-eye area! But the Kate mascara is hands-down the best mascara I have ever used so far! I have been using it for more than a month now and I use it everyday.
It has 2 sides, one for volume and one for length, so you no longer have to use 2 different mascaras to get these effects. If you want to do 2 coats, then you better work fast, because it dries very quickly. I would say work on one eye first, that is, curling the lashes and then applying the 2 coats and then move to the next eye. The shorter side builds volume very well and gives the illusion of thicker lashes, while the longer side lengthens the lashes and makes them vaa vaa voom long! It’s as close to false lashes as I will ever get! False lashes are very popular here. You even get a ton of variety in the ¥100 store. I have seen lashes that cost ¥2000 or more a pair!
The mascara does not clump when building volume, which is a problem even some high-end volumizing mascaras have. When you pull out the wand, exactly the right amount of product comes out, and so is not gloopy or wet.
Tip: If your mascara dries off, I would suggest adding a few drops of some solution (I use my contact lens solution) to the tube and mix it with the help of the wand, not by pumping it but just rotating the wand in the tube. Also dipping the tube in lukewarm water (with wand closed) also loosens up the product and makes it easier to apply.
Tip 2: Please discard your mascara after the 3-month mark. By that time, the bacterial buildup is very high and you might be prone to eye infections. I learnt this the hard way after using old mascara and getting a bad eye infection.
Pros of Kate Tokyo Black Feather Lash Mascara in BK-1 Mysterious Black:
- 2-in-1 effects of length and volume.
- Very good staying power, does not budge or transfer after application.
- Waterproof (even though that is not mentioned on the package).
- Brush design very good, can be re-used for other mascaras after it runs out.
- Right amount of product comes out on the wand.
Cons of Kate Tokyo Black Feather Lash Mascara in BK-1 Mysterious Black:
- Takes a bit of manoeuvring to get the bottom lashes coated.

You bet! This will always be my go-to mascara!
