6 Easy Ways To Keep Fit During Diwali

Diwali is popularly known as festival of lights because it brings prosperity and lights up our lives. Not only Diwali but every festival, of all religions, is incomplete without sweets and family dining and sometimes if you end up having more than required. As the festive season is coming up it is important to remember that when you enjoy the moments of celebration and sharing, avoiding fat is merely impossible.

Sweets

Sweets with loads of ghee, sugar and dairy items (like milk and khova) and fried foods consumed during festivals are full of calories. Thanks to the changing times, we even get caramalized nuts and chocolate fillets with dry fruits πŸ˜› Ain’t it cynical enough to get us demotivated ? Though festivals are loaded with joy and fun, it disturbs diet schedules of many people, especially mine.

As the festive season approaches it is important to remember that while you enjoy every moment of celebration, avoiding calories is not impossible. If you don’t watch your diet it will take away all the hard work you did to get in shape or demotivate you even before you start to think about it.

Moderation is the key to enjoy festive food and still keep the weighing scales in balance. πŸ™‚

Few tips on how you can avoid piling on calories during festivals:

  1. Low Fat, Low Sugar Products: Make use of ingredients like low fat milk, low sugar products and other dairy products to make sweets and snacks. But also do not use these products extensively under the halo effect of low fat, as these products are β€˜low fat’ but not β€˜no fat’.
  2. Less Oil: Cook your food using limited quantity of oil. When you eat oily foods occasionally, you tend to consume more than what you normally consume. Hence eat less even when you eat oily foods occasionally.
  3. Drink Water: When it is snack time during festivals, drink a glass of water. A glass of water will make your stomach partially full. As a result you will eat less; this will help to minimize the calorie intake. When there is a get together during festivals, you can stick to the habit of eat less and talk more’ πŸ˜‰ my favorite… πŸ˜€
  4. Be Conscious: Try to be conscious of what you eat during festivals, so that you will have an idea of your food intake. You can make adjustments to your diet later or you can attend an extra workout session. But it is better that you decide in advance how much you will consume during a particular period and stick to it.
  5. Substitute Sweets & Snacks: When you serve sweets and snacks, add fruits and nuts to the plate. When you just cannot resist the temptation, eat nuts and dry fruits in small quantities to reduce calorie intake.
  6. Use Smaller Plates: You tend to eat less when you serve yourself in smaller plates. Even small spoons, glasses and bowls are beneficial to avoid unhealthy foods. Avoid second helping as well. This will help in keeping a good control on your portion sizes. This is strictly for your junk food quota, eat a healthy amount of main course to keep you charged up πŸ˜‰

Enjoy the festive season and also keep in mind that these pointers so that you can get back to shape again without worries.

Last but not the least, my friends always complain that I eat equally good, but I do not gain weight as much as they do. I recently found out the secret, which motivated me to write this. Hope my friend will forgive me after seeing this. Am writing this for her benefit too..

We both hit the same restaurants and eat almost from the same buffet, but check out the differences in her and my choice ….. Rather than writing up generic things, I would like to bring this realistic pic to your view πŸ˜‰

Am not a salad person, but this one salad I can eat up as a main course. Carrot and Raisins……. I pour some condensed milk instead of dressing to this one, just 3 ingredients and good way to start a meal πŸ™‚

Happy munching, also if you have any yummy items with less sinful ingredients, do share it with me πŸ™‚

Happy Diwali……

If I have been over critical about anything please do forgive moi , am a geek and into a management job, so am good at finding faults πŸ˜‰ LMAO

  1. Thanks a ton for this post Veena. My sweets munching has already started from yesterday . πŸ˜› I am reading and re reading the post. A very happy Diwali to you. :-* :-* :-* :-*

  2. put diwali pics Rati :-* :-* ,
i got 1 kg rasgulla and assorted dark choclates, plus bounville mixed pack :eat: :eat: :eat:

if you get too mucha chokies, melt them and add nuts (caramalized badam or kaju , even pistachio )and raisins and make it more healthier πŸ˜‰ happy celebrations

      1. take a sauce pan, coat the tawa with unpasturised or unsalted butter..
add two table spoon of water (for every 4 piece) and bring it to boil…
keep the chokies in room temperature for sometime and add it to the boiling water
do not allow the mixture to boil or form bubbles…..
jus stir it until it melts and forms like a thick chocolate lava ……. yummy πŸ˜‰

take it and put it onto silver/steel plate and cut into ur desired shape (like how we cut dhokla and burfies) and top or fill it with you favourite caramlized nuts and dried fruits……..

you can even try this in smal amounts and add it to milk, to mke intant choco drink :coffee: :coffee:

          1. yes, the butter and chokie, both r lil thick in consitency nd
to stir the paste u wil find it tough, so jus to make it easy wusy,
            we r addin water,
example : to melt four pieces of daily milk chokie, u jus need to add 2 table spoon of water πŸ™‚

and thebutter should be unsalted or unpasturised, or else the chokie wil end up tasting lil salty
