How many of you routinely go for a hair spa? And has the routine hair spa really made a difference to your hair? Does your hair feel really strong and healthy and shiny; or do you still have slight irritation, itching of your hair with slightly more than normal hair fall? For hair to be strong, the roots really need to be strong. And no amount of shampoo and conditioner will treat your unhealthy scalp. Your shampoo will clean your scalp and hair; and your conditioner will make your hair will feel softer and shinier and easy to handle. But is your scalp really healthy? And is the hair growing from the scalp really optimum in quality? Well, I faced this dilemma a few months back; and I was advised by the hair expert at the Kerastase salon to use this product. I first hesitated; and then I bought it…and I am glad to say that I have landed up with a winner here.

My Experience Kerastase Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate :
My hair is normal to dry type. I had always treated it as such. Never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that my scalp would be oily and hair would be dry. I had never before heard of such a thing. And I could not understand it. Yes, I put a heavy masque as a conditioner on my hair…not including the roots. That keeps my dryness under control. But what about my shampoo. Do I use one for oily hair (which would suit my scalp but dry out my hair further); or do I use one for dry hair (which would make my scalp greasier)? Well, this was an important question for me…..when the hair expert at Kerastase suggested that I use one for normal to dry hair (which I was already using); AND use this scalp concentrate for my scalp. You see; what I had not understood was that due to this mixed texture; my scalp was becoming irritated; greasier; and prone to itching. She actually showed the condition of my scalp on a hand held special camera; and suggested me a Kerastase treatment ritual; along with this serum. I practically balked on hearing this price; but I bought it….and I am ever thankful to the Kerastase hair expert for this.
The product comes in a glass bottle, which is opaque and golden in color. Being made out of glass; this one is really heavy and has the chances of breakage. So it is better to handle it wisely. But overall; the entire packaging is; as usual; shrieking of luxury (Typical Kerastase!!!). The bottle has a pipette at the top…which is long and really useful. The pipette does not fill entirely; only as much as I have shown in the picture. The hair expert advised me to shampoo (I usually use Kerastaseshampoo for normal to dry hair; and use Redken Clarifying shampoo around twice a month) and condition (Kerastase Elixir Ultime masque…my HG) my hair 2-3 times a week. Following towel drying my hair; I need to part my hair into four sections; and run one pipette of product along each section. Then I need to massage my scalp with my fingers for a couple of minutes; so that the product distributes equally over the entire scalp. And at the very end; I just use a hair serum for sealing in the moisture in my hair (I use Phyto 7). Well, I was already following this regime except for the scalp concentrate; so adding in another product was not a big deal for me.
The product is a slightly thick, whitish liquid; which has a nice and mild fragrance to it. It indeed feels like a spa experience to me. The solution gives a cooling feel on the scalp when it is being applied; and it spreads very easily as well. It becomes totally transparent and does not leave any residue at all. The hair expert had told me that the product would last me around a month if I use it 2-3 times a week; but I am already using it since two months; with twice…and sometimes thrice a week shampooing; but it is still going strong.
I have been carefully following this routine since past two months; and I will say that I am impressed. My scalp irritation has decreased; my scalp feels healthier; and my hair feels stronger and shinier. The health of my hair has definitely improved; and my hair fall has indeed reduced by a significant volume. I retested my hair at a Kerastase salon around 2 weeks back; and the results on the camera were there to be seen. I was really impressed. It was just like they show on the TV ads…the before and after pictures. My scalp did look much much better on the camera this time. I repurchased another bottle of this concentrate immediately.
Now comes a problem which I don’t have an answer to. And that is why I was hesitating in the first place to buy this. How many days do I continue to use this? The hair expert assured me that this will heal my scalp; and it has done so. But hair growth is a continuous process; and in order to be effective; I will need to purchase this product again and again. I haven’t been disappointed so far; but seeing the hefty price factor; I really doubt as to how many months or years I will continue to repurchase this.
